Great info on this thread!

I see that X-pole is offering a new pole (see here (http://www.x-pole.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=6&option=com_phpshop&Itemid=44), "Gold Edition") which supposedly has a special coating for "increased grip."

Has anyone heard about or tried this one?

I just ordered one of Sassys poles last week, my order went through right away, she got back to me in less then a day for all the measurements and extra shipping to Canada and I expect my pole any time now.

I've not seen this pole in person as yet, but I've heard from several women who've used it and loved it - in fact it was premiered at the Miss Pole Princess competition in the UK several months ago and all the contestants loved using it.

It has an even better grip than brass and is also reportedly great for doing difficult tricks as well as those with very sweaty palms.

I bought a Lil Mynx stainless steel rotator and I love it. It is a little slick but I adjusted to it. I can do inverts on it and put a lot of force onto it with no problems (even my 200lb husband jumped on it and spun around a few times without it budging). Going from rotating to stationary is easy and takes less than 1 minute to do.

It was easy to install (although the pole is really heavy so you should be carefull.)

I've had my pole for 3-4 months now and am glad I went with a 2-n-1 pole since the club I want to work at has rotating poles.

I still want to get another pole to have one bolted in my bedroom and another one that is portable.

I have an XPole at home and it's good although the extentions are quite visible and they are thick. Although if you can dance on these poles you can dance on any and they do rotate aswell. They are made for homes in the UK which was a shit for me because the beams in my roof are too far apart and I had to get extra support in my roof. Although they dont make a mark on the roof if you rent. For girls in Australia take a look at Polarise, they are pretty good.......

I highly recommend Platinum Stages - at least from a customer service perspective. I ordered a multi part pole with carrying case for my favourite dancer. It was lost in transit by the courier company. But Kim at Platinum was on top of the situation and has handled the problem. And on top of it all, Platinum Stages through in some videos to make up for a problem that was not their fault. Thank you Platinum Stages!

I have one of those and there is definately a large difference compared to regular chrome. I've never tried brass so I can't compare those two, unfortunately... but I imagine it being troublesome to do spins and such if the pole gets much more sticky than this. Love it so far!

I just said this in some other post (the PS rant one) but...

I just now ordered the gold edition titanium X-pole online. I wanted to order one back when they weren't shipping to the US. I stopped dancing for a while and getting a pole slipped in it's priority level even though I still wanted one.

Once I get it I'll be sure to post a full review!

Shame I didn't see this earlier... I know of many girls who have their Xpole over 1 joist (just line in right up in the middle) They can do all their tricks with no problems and the pole has not budged!

I know you guys are going to be initially thinking, "You have GOT to be kidding me!" But here goes...

About a year ago, I bought for $80 from Spencer's Gifts. At that time I wasn't professionally dancing yet, and I intended to purchase it as a home novelty for drunken parties and the like.

Here I am, a year later, in love with the damned thing. You'll find reports all over that this pole is not sturdy and is a piece of crap. Let me elaborate on that.... In my experience, this pole cannot be setup by a female, (unless you/she is incredibly strong and large). I have always had to have my 250lb father or 175lb boyfriend put the pole up for me. It is spring loaded, and if someone strong enough pulls the spring down and puts it in place, it holds just fine. (Once myself and three girlfriends were able to lodge it in place ourselves, but we all had to hang our full body weight onto the spring to really get it placed tightly). As for the weight component, my heavyset dad whipped around the thing to test it, and my boyfriend tugged on it as hard as he could and couldn't get it to budge. Both dad and boyfriend were able to climb it and my boyfriend sometimes fools around doing pole tricks on it (he's quite the gymnast) and it's never so much as budged an inch. It's been a year and it's never slipped, moved, or come loose. To be honest, I don't know how we're going to get the thing down! (For the record, the bottom of the pole is against carpeting and the top is against a planked wood ceiling --although the pole comes with a grip pad for the top of it; a sort of ceiling fixture). ...Perhaps it wouldn't be as sturdy against a tile floor and that type of ceiling cover that falls down like dandruff if you rub it....

For a really cheap and not so classy pole, if you put it up right, it holds just fine. (So if you've heard the rumors that they are unstable, it is probably that the owner did not put it up correctly or put it up against a bad or slippery surface). As for portable, I have mine jacked into place so firmly that it is very difficult to transport.

Anyway, this pole is pretty flexible in that it comes with the ability to lose or gain a foot in height to suit your ceiling. I have been able to practice my general dancing as well as advanced pole tricks on this item without any problems. I typically require gymnast chalk on my hands, however, and the pole is made of chrome, so perhaps the grip on other types of metals wouldn't require the dancer to "chalk up" first.

So in conclusion, I actually recommend this product, especially to those who cannot afford to spend a lot on a superb pole and stage, and for those who are just curious about dancing and don't want to invest too much before making a final decision. It certainly is tacky looking compared to a pricey pole, so expect that. If you shine the chrome regularly however, it still makes a nice home novelty and functions just fine for dancing. The product is also sold with a cheap garter and a bunch of fake money, so it does double as a fun party item.

Well, that's all I've got on that. Just wanted to note my experience with this product versus all the negative reviews I've read. Even though I have the funds for a professional pole and stage now, I've gotten so used to this piece of junk that I don't think I'll ever trade up. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I guess poles hold beauty in the eyes of the dancer.

Kisses,

Sorry.
I wasn't trying to advertise anything. I wasn't b.s.ing though when I said it can take a lot of weight and handle pole tricks. (Probably not for most people... I was just saying that I personally have had good luck with it). Obviously they did intend to advertise it to kids, but I've still found it to be a decent a home practice tool. Again, my bad. I wasn't trying to advertise anything or repeat an old discussion, (I haven't been part of this community for too long and didn't know it had already been gabbed about). I hope I didn't offend anyone and I apologize if I did.....

Always,

I got a Fantasy Dance pole from Summer. I've happy with the service, it got here no problem, it mounted easily, I've done lots of high-torque moves and not a wobble (mines 8').

My only complaint is that the powder-coat doesn't have the same grip as a brass pole. It doesn't allow as tight a grip with the hands, but at the same time it kind of pinches the thighs other fatty areas more than a brass pole. So yeah, I guess I should have anticipated that, but didn't.

it's still a good buy! But, I suggest to more advanced pole dancers to shell out for the brass.

do NOT buy a peekaboo pole..they are a cheap toy. they will fall. i just recently read a story about a girl who bought one, she went to do a flip/spin or something..went flying THROUGH A WINDOW!! and I mean THROUGH it. Spent almost a week in the hospital!

these poles are novelties. they are only meant to be pranced around. they are a "toy" and very dangerous

I have the 45mm Titanium X Pole at home and I love it!!!

It is a little bit thinner than the 50mm and a lot stickier than the chrome!

I still find the brass stickier... but I think that is just because I have always learnt on the brass...

I highly recommend the Titanium finish...

You can also get a thinner 42mm X Pole as well... I haven't used it but I have heard it is a lot thinner.

So, I just came back to see what was new in this thread and realized I wrote that I'll write a review of my x-pole once it gets up.

I went to put it up, but realized I needed an extension cause I couldn't put it in the room I originally wanted to. Two weeks late I try again.

I couldn't get it stable at first. I even started a 'rant' thread on hating the fact that I 'needed' my boyfriend to help. I realized that as I was tightening the adjuster rod, I was loosening the top half of the main pole. It took me a while, but I figured it out. Although it took me over an hour (with breaks due to frustration) to put it up at first, it now takes me less that 10 min to put it up or take it down.

I got the gold edition titanium one. It is very grippy. It has given me the confidence to try certain trick, while at the same time making some others painful (when my skin is sticking to the pole). Is 'pole burn' a term? I got it a few times... :)

It is very sturdy, and the dvd that comes with it is very informative. I unfortunately have a bookshelf very close to the pole on one side and cannot experiment as much as I would like. Although I am working on creating space elswhere in my apartment for that piece of furniture! Swingy tricks here I come!

i noticed there were a few mentions, but no reviews of any of the poles from aradia (http://www.aradiafitness.com).

i actually dance at their vancouver location, and i can vouch for the poles (the poles they sell are the same ones they use in studio!). i also worked with their manufacturer in a previous job, and it is quite a big and reputable brass manufacturer who also does many of the permanent poles for clubs.

they may be pricey, but they are great poles.
maybe once i really get dancing i'll be able to afford one for my living room!

Some things I have been having trouble with... getting the pieces to my pole screwed in tight enough. It seems that after awhile of practicing spins, they start to unscrew since I mostly spin in the direction that unscrews them. The other thing is my grip! I have only danced on a brass pole before and this chrome is SO slippery! I just learned to invert myself and I get up very easily, so once I'm up there, I'm trying to hang on for a bit to build my strength and learn things other then just letting my self slide down gracefully. I want to learn to hang on with my legs and all that, but for now I can't hold on long enough to really practice any of that. Either my hands realllly start to hurt from the chrome or I just start sliding down and can't stop! I put pillows on the floor around the pole just incase one day I'm practicing holding on upside down and I just loose it. Any suggestions? My plan for now is to practice inverting everyday and just hang on upside down for as long as I can to build my strength. How do you guys clean your chrome poles and keep them from being slippery?

sassysummer
12-11-2006, 08:54 PM
destydoll..are you sure yours is chrome and not stainless? what brand is it?

also, use rubbing alcohol...frequently...only brass absorbs your oils, you have to keep cleaning the other kids.

eventually you'll build the strength. I went from powder coated...VERY sticky to stainless..very slippery and got WAY stronger with the steel.

DestyDoll
12-12-2006, 02:43 PM

sassysummer
12-12-2006, 02:56 PM
yep, it's polished stainless steel

make sure you have NO lotion on...even "moisturizing" body washes will make you too slick.

use rubbing alcohol..on the pole and your hands, make sure it's dry before poling. if you have naturally sweaty/oily hands (i didn't think i did until i got mine), you'll need to wipe down frequently.

i even wipe down the insides of my thighs, calves and tops of my feet with alcohol to help get more grip.

you'll get stronger and stronger the more you use it. there were tricks that i could do fine on my powder coated pole, that once i got the stainless...slid right off. after a week or 2 or daily practice, my strength built up and now i don't have that problem.

Don't use windes on the pole....

It actually causes you to break out.

Something in the composition.

No Wipes, No windex, no household cleaners of any type!! Most contain a wax or glycerin...which can be deadly!!

Alcohol only......and for a good cleaning use use a dish detergent, as they actually have grease gutters, which will remove the oils well!

Sassysummer...I am PM'ing you!!

sassysummer
12-13-2006, 09:39 AM
i know some people use windex..i wouldn't..too many chemicals being "rubbed" into your skin. plus i'm VERY sensitive to smells and as many times as i have to wipe down, i'd get a migraine within a couple of minutes of using windex...

stick with rubbing alcohol...it's super cheap and effective! i just bought a small spray bottle for like a dollar and a huge bottle of alcohol for like 79cents!

sensuality
12-14-2006, 09:13 AM
^^^ yep alcohol is cheap and deff the best thing I have found to clean my pole.
DestyDoll...I check/tighten the seams on my pole every few tricks I try, as well as making sure it is tight to the ceiling. And I also wipe it down with alcohol after a few. No lotions before using it either. Its funny that you think its too slippery, cuz when I got mine I thought it was too sticky! I really stuck to the pole and even had trouble sliding down without pinching my skin.
There are also a lot of products out there to improve grip (like Mighty Grip and a few others mentioned on here). You only need a tiny bit and Im sure you can rub a little bit on the inside of your thighs for practicing inverts!

I got '"wet one's" baby wipes. They have water, then alcohol are listed as the top two ingredients... works on my pole!

I've used these also. It's hard to find "good" cheap baby wipes! I'm out of these now and they are difficult to find around here so I can't recall all the ingredients but I seem to remember they may have aloe or something but it's way down the list and it doesn't affect them.

The other advantage to baby wipes is that they add a slight stickiness to your hands and the pole to help with grip if you want it. They are also very convenient to use so I'll buy the cheap ones, let the whole box dry out completely and then re-soak them with rubbing alcohol. This works great!

Windex: apparently most mirror companies recommend against using it as it breaks down the composition of mirrors after a while? At least that's what I was told when our mirrors were installed- so I wouldn't use it on my pole. Though they do recommend "Sparkle" glass cleaner and I've used it without any problems.

If your pole is "un-screwing" when you are using it, make sure the locking nut at the top is tightened VERY well. I can't recall if the PS poles has a locking nut???

On all the multi-piece poles, clean the threaded connections regularly with dishwashing detergent to remove dirt, oil and debris that can build up and make it difficult to take your pole apart. Then use an all silicone based spray lube...you really shouldn't use WD40 as it has a water base and will cause rust.

Chrome and stainless poles are less grippy, but you can build up your strength and get use to using them just as well as brass. I've always felt it was better to practice on chrome then you KNOW you can always switch to a brass pole when you encounter one.

Another thing that is terrible on your skin is the use of self tanning lotions. I've only found one that doesn't leave permanent oiliness and that's ban de soleil's radiance eternelle. Baby lotion is the only thing I use and I make certain it's several hours before I pole dance. I still keep alcohol soaked towels nearby for my legs and hand grip.

I know own 4 Xpoles and feel it is the best, and safest on the market. With all the features, it has more to offer than the other poles. I have one of the 45 mm poles too (the 42mm is not available in the US) and it is quite a bit easier to work on though I don't recommend it for most people as you will be at a disadvantage if you go to a club to dance on a standard 2 inche pole when you practice all the time on the 45mm which is 1.75 inches.

I bought myself a Platinum Stage for Christmas. When I ordered it, the girl on the phone was like "it takes 20 min. to set up" ... well if your single and setting this thing up yourself; its more like 2 or so hours. I didnt mind, I was really excited, but by the time I was done constructing it, I wasnt as raring to hop on it, tired from tighting screws! Ok so then it was built and in the middle of my living room. I jumped on and practiced on it for like 45 mins. when I got off I noticed it made a lil clank noise, I turned it on its side only to see the bolts were starting to loosen. so I had to tighten the whole thing again! My suggestion it your going to buy this, buy the quick disasemble bolts, even if your going to leave it in the same spot. they are $65 more but worth it in the end. I bought the one with the silver looking steel top and if your doing a trick that lets say you end up in the splitz on the stage BURR! that top is f***in cold. not sure but maybe the black top would of been more of room temp.
This was my first time on a pole, and dam, its way harder than it looks! I really have a new respect for the girls who can man handle a pole, I will keep practicing and hopefully soon enough...
And dont let them talk you into buying all the helpful dvds either. the pole exercise 1 dvd you can rent on netflix. the other dvds maybe had 1 or 2 things new, but not worth $27ea. especially for only 40min.
Good luck and Have fun!~

She was meaning 20 minutes to set it up..once it's assembled. Yea, assembling is a bitch!

I also agree about the quick release bolts. However after a while of tightening the regular bolts, they should start to "stick" and won't come as loose. All bolts for anything are going to be loose at first. but yea, if you don't want to mess with it, the quick release bolts are the way to go.
