Sushi in Australia SUPER fucking cheap. It's actually a fast food here... so I buy it heaps. It's considered a poor college meal here... delicious!

I like sushi but I discovered when I moved to Tampa from New Orleans that not all sushi restaurants serve the same things. Two of my favorites rolls, crunchy rolls and snowcrab rolls, I could not find in tampa but every sushi place in N.O. has them.

Only in america can one take two ounces of Salmon, wrap it in 10¢ worth of rice, and charge nine dollars and seventy five cents for it.

^^ Nah worse in Japan.
Man I love sushi. I miss Sushi Sushi (a popular chain in Australia) I also miss Yokyama Teppanyaki and Sushi place in Auckland, super expensive, but so good.
The salmon is of course my fav. I had a smoked salmon roll in Hobart, dam it was so fresh I had to go back for more. Seafood is excellent in Hobart.

OMG, I love caterpillar rolls. The best one I ever had was outside of Tampa near Brandon in FL. Tiny little hole in the wall place but really good sushi and even better sake!

My fave is hamachi. I love sushi so much. Unfortunately I'm getting over a stomach bug that had me puking up sushi Monday night. But I don't blame the sushi, its always been good to me. I blame what I had for lunch that day. The sushi was an innocent victim dammit! Still, might be a while.........

as an aside on stomach issues:
the word on the street is that you need to eat your sushi within 30 minutes of being removed from the fridge or it's all over for you... even a few degrees can make all the difference.
nothing worse than that funny *nyung nyung* :biting: taste and texture...
as for CK... don't be scared. just try something easy to eat, like cooked teriyaki chicken sushi... and make sure it's super chilled. graduating to the slimey raw stuff should be a gentle process.
first piece i tried back in 1997 i had to spit back out. now THAT is classy!!!

Well, if your gonna have sushi, you realy should go all out:
http://members.tripod.com/sushilovers/2004nakedsushi.jpg
a popular ritual, called the nyotaimori feast (pictured right above), invites guests to pay $1200 for the pleasure of eating sushi and other Japanese cuisine off the body of a naked woman. The "serving tray" does have to wax, pluck, and lie still for eight hours, but viriginity is "no longer required".

That's because rolls are really "Americanized" sushi. Also rolls are pretty much the creation of the chef, so it vary according to the chef.

See just how Americanized it can get:

"Tokyo Fro's Rockin' Sushi Bar" When it opened, I couldn't help but picture a bunch of Japanese waiters wandering around in big afros and wearing John Travolta "Saturday Night Fever" suits. But, alas, not quite that much fun.
Anyway, lots of rolls with stupid names, like the "Geek Girls Gone Wild". It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the roll ingredients.

I don't recommend sea urchin. I had it in a sort of "shot" with qual egg at Miyako in Houston a few years ago. Icky and slimy, tasted like thick jizz.

I like the jellyfish for some strange reason, but don't like the fish eggs. The empress on the other hand is totally opposite.

I'll agree that sea urchin is pretty foul. It wasn't that bad, flavor wise, but the texture was fucking vile. I wouldn't know if it was like "icky slimy jizz", but I'm willing to bet that's an appropriate comparison. AVOID IT.
I don't mind the little fish eggs...masago? They get stuck in my teeth, though. The Wendywife likes the big ones, flying fish eggs I think? Gross.
