It was climate change that killed the dinosars.
Yes, pre-historic 'nuclear winter' caused by the impact of a large meteor (as proven by iridium levels in core samples). A similar event could happen at any time in the future, and humans are just beginning to track such objects.
Polar bears are being considered to added to the endangered species list because of a 20% drop in their already low numbers. The reason isn't hunting but the loss of ice that they live on is decreasing.
yes, but polar bears are now interbreeding with brown bears in the Canadian north too !
Besides the plastic casings there are all of the noxious chemicals aforementioned. Those are mined for and processed in great quantities that are polluting themselves. Yes battery recycling exists but even that is not a wholly green procees either.
yes in point of fact the manufacture of batteries is an extremely 'brown' process ! However, since battery manufacture has virtually ground to a halt in the USA due to high environmental compliance costs, the 'brown' side effects of battery manufacture have now been transplanted to China (along with the associated jobs)! It is speculated that if hybrid vehicle batteries were produced under environmental regulations required in the USA that the cost of your typical hybrid vehicle battery pack would jump from $6,000 to $12,000 - an expense which arguably must be made every 5 years as the battery pack degrades with age and recharging cycles !
the 'tin foil hat' crowd would tell you that the real 'inconvenient truth' is that pollution sources are not wanted in American back yards, but that they are perfectly acceptable if relocated to China, Vietnam or some other part of the world such that Americans can still take advantage of affordable but very 'brown' offshore production methods !

A hybrid battery does not need to be replaced every five years unless maybe the car is driven more than 150,000- 200,000 miles in that time period. A hybrid battery are made to last the life of the car. In fact, the hybrid battery will out last a regular battery since regular batteries usually need to be replaced around 75,000 miles.
Also, hybrid batteries can be recycled. Toyota has a comprehensive battery recycling program in place and has been recycling nickel-metal hydride batteries since the RAV4 Electric Vehicle was introduced in 1998. Every part of the battery, from the precious metals to the plastic, plates, steel case and the wiring, is recycled. To ensure that batteries come back to Toyota, each battery has a phone number on it to call for recycling information and dealers are paid a $200 "bounty" for each battery.

A hybrid battery is built to last the entire life of the car which is generally 100,000+ miles.
A hybrid battery lasts twice as long than a traditional car battery.
Most of hybrid batteries are recycled. Unlike a traditional car battery every single part of a hybrid battery can be re-used.
Toyota has been using recycled hybrid batteries since the late 1990's and even offers a $200 refund for each one turned in to be recycled.

That's dandy but the actual recycling process is pretty horrid from what I know.
