I think we're all talking about generalizations..... not every dog of a breed acts the same!!! They all have their own personalities. The personality traits are common among a breed, but aren't set in stone.

jasmine- many small dogs are more fragile, so both breeds mentioned can be skittish.

kandie- you're right about some dogs not liking being toted, but many dogs are okay with it. I think it's the same idea as a child being strapped into a stroller, they can still look out, but it's safe. They can't just run away without knowing better. A smart little dog could also escape from being held sometimes, which could be fatal. If the dog is happy, I don't see anything wrong with it. And tiny dogs can't walk forever. :)

my point of this is to do what you want to do!

Yea you are right Lola, all dogs are different. My pomeranian didn't like her bag, but my chihuahua mix loves bags, he feels cozy and safe. And all my dogs love to be carried all over the house like little babies haha. Post pictures asap! i'm so excited for you!

I'm super bummed, b/c I mixed up the dates!!!! I wrote in my calander the wrong weekend. I can't get him untill the 27th :( It's okay though. I'll have extra time to "puppy proof" my house :)

Little dogs are awsome companions! My Yorkie, Gavin, is about 5lbs full size and he is never more than 3ft from me, and ALWAYS wants to be in my lap or snuggling beside me. Lola, you'll love having a tiny pooch!

Are Pomeranian's high maintenance?

They need a lot of attention and love, they can be skittish. I'd call them high maintenence. The also aren't good with kids (the child could hurt them, b/c they're so small, and they aren't heavy into play).

Are you sure you aren't talking about chihuahuas? I had a pom for over 15 years, and she loved everyone, and wasn't scared of anything. My parents next door neighboor thought she was so cute they got one too, and he had the same temperment, kind of high strung (loves to play, and yappy) but loved everyone they met, and neither dog had a nervous temperment. My grandfather however had a chihuahua that had heart problems and was afraid of her own shadow. She died of a heart attack, and his new chihuahua is only slightly calmer than the last.

Jasmine

No, I'm talking about Poms, for sure... I remember being warned SEVERELY. Chihuahuas were similar in treatment at the shop... but I wasn't nearly as punished for being a little to hard on them as I was the poms.

One chihuahua wouldn't be washed without his great dane best friend... not scared at all! :P

I got him!!!! He's adorable! His name is Tigger, and he's 1.5 lbs of love and fluff and nibbling. And he (so far) loves being in a bag :) I think that since he's so young he's more easily adaptable to being in a carrier.... we're making a habit before he's too old~! I can't wait to post pics, but now I'm not home, so I've been taking lots, but they're stuck on my camera for the time being:(..... He sat on my lap the whole ride, it was adorable! I love him :) We went on a shopping spree at the pet store, he has auch cute things, he's like a little baby!

Make sure that even with the bag you walk him regularly. Arthritis, cholesterol, etc. otherwise.

Okay, I'm not a big fan of yappy little pocketdogs, but that IS cute. We had an American Eskimo when I was younger, he was a fuzzy little ball of fluff like that, too. Hey, does anyone else like puppy breath? It smells like coffee grounds. Or maybe that's just me.

Next puppy I come in contact with, I am gonna test that theory out, and report back to you. I'm assuming normal corn fritos, no bbq flavor or anything?

Emily
01-28-2007, 06:09 PM
yes, original flavor

It seems that pomeranians can't be boys.

All puppies are adorable. The yappier the better. Shows they have personality. There is nothing better than spoiling your "baby".

thanks emily! and chrissy, tigger wuvs you too.

I agree about spoiling they, to an extent. They should be spoiled with love and attention as much as possible, but I don't think they need free reign or to yip all the time!
