Canadian content laws aren't so bad. At least it makes it easier to avoid Justin Timberlake. That and Finger 11, the Trews, Sloan, Three Days Grace, and a whole lot of other really good bands are Canadian. I just do my best to avoid Nickelback.

On that note- I'm playing Rush's "Moving Pictures" right now & will play it for buffet shift at The Northern. Yee haw!

"I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing"- Aerosmith :heartbeat

I haven't heard this song in FOREVER.

MrChristopher

^That song makes my skin crawl. Then again, I loathe all crap power-ballad mid/late 80's onward Aerosmith. Call me wrong, but give me the Toxic Twins when they were 28 types of fucked up. Mama Kin? Walkin The Dog? Back In The Saddle? Hell yes. No offense, ma'am.

-I was rockin' "Master Of Puppets" on the way home, but I was suddenly over it. Plus, there was construction everywhere and it was raining like hell. I'm gonna nuke some leftover green bean casserole and probably put on some Portishead/Massive Attack or something and try to sleep. The kids are out of school tomorrow.

Portishead? What, are you gay? That stuff sucks! How dare you malign the divine Mily, merely for sharing her current musical selection--only to trot out this 'music' for angst-ridden teenage girls pretending to be poets, balless swine pretending to be deep and mysterious so that fat girl in their philosophy class will finally fuck them, and gutless pansies of all persuation, pretending to be real men? Which is utterly impossible while listening to Portishead, of course.

And what a dumb name for a band.

What's a 'portis', anyway? Some sort of 'doorway', I would imagine, going by the root. So it means "Doorhead'? 'Gatehead'? 'Ihopethatfatgirlgivesmesomehead' (now that I'm pretending to like this stupid fucking weird music)?

I'm going to get BigGrnMtnMn back in here, he really hated Portishead,
the guy even started an entire thread,
about how much they sucked in that other forum that's dead.

Besides trying to impress us with your deep, passionate sensitivity, why on earth would you listen to this shit? To get warmed up for slashing your wrists, maybe? This stuff is depressing.

Oh, but wait--it was raining, and then there was construction, and now you have to eat green bean casserole. Fuck, that is depressing. But why go and make it worse?

Waaaaaah! (To quote the former Mod of Music Mix)

I'm kidding, I like Portishead. But Mily is from Hawaii, you know, she's really a priestess for some sort of volcano god. It's too late, you fucking idiot, you probably did offend her by saying her music is bad. Guess what you're going to find in your backyard when you wake up?

MrChristopher

FORGIVE ME FATHER, FOR I HAVE SINNED. Or something.

Portishead DOES suck for the club. They're great sleepin' tunes though.

Plus, I'd rather be thrown into a live volcano then have to listen to the sonic abortion that is that god-awful song from Armageddon. It's a personal choice, and I stand by it. I did say "no offense" ya know. Geesh.

There is nothing depressing about green bean casserole. Nope.

Haha! I'm fucking with you...

Actually, I have used Portishead in the clubs, there's a remix that's great if it's not midnight on friday, say--and there's a couple that are great for the last song of the night, etc. But I know of at least one owner I have worked for who might have gotten pissed off even at those times. But he would have been wrong. But he might have fired me anyway, the swine. But then he would have been perpetually immersed in boiling lava, in the afterlife.

Eh, who cares, we are just here to have fun and share. I've slept maybe 8 hours in the last three days, that's my excuse. Maybe my attempt at humor was even worse than some of the other kind that makes me reach for my barf bag everytime, lol.

In music, as in all forms of artistic expression, to each their own.

^^^ damn.. way to rip him a new one there... I like Portishead. Wandering Stars, Strangers, I think those songs are good. Not everything by them, but some of their stuff is good. They could be good in the club with the right girl. doing the right moves, a slow sensual set... or a private dance...that's all.

I like Portishead! And I fucking love Massive Attack, for that matter. And I like Mr C, or I would never have messed with him like that. Actually, I was ripping myself a new one, as well, LOL!

And for all I know, I would hate that Armageddon song, too. I don't remember the music from the movie, but I did fast forward the tragic death scene/speech where Bruce Willis and his daughter were crying, and the director of the movie wanted me to cry, too. Fuck him.

I've never met Mily, but from what I've read that she has posted, I like her, too. I know she's from Hawaii, but not whether she's a goddess or not. I hope I didn't offend her, and that she keeps posting what she's listening to here.

Just to absolutely clarify--I was just having fun. And semi-delerious from lack of sleep. If there was a point, I guess it was A) No matter what the music is, someone out there is going to tell you you're gay for listening to that awful stuff, including some of my own personal favorites. B) This thread is just for fun, and I don't want anyone to be offended by what I or anyone else says about their taste.

...the right girl. doing the right moves...

That combination can break almost any rule. I've used Portishead with great success in several clubs, with several dancers, and some very happy customers.

So, right now, I'm going to put on that funked-up remix of "Revenge of the Number", and call that fat girl from my philosophy class...

Mr C, you just caused me to wake everyone within a 200 foot radius up, I was laughing so hard.

Hey maybe this is the wrong place for it, but I would love to hear your recommendations for the best Massive Attack mixes. Preferably something I could use in one of those 'right girl, right moves' situations, when the crotchedy old man owner isn't in the house, you know...

I have a couple already, but I know there has to be more.

If there's anyone to ask, I figured it would be you.
