View Full Version : Lets play some brainbusters!
There are 3 bags of coins in a room. Two contain real gold coins weighing 1 lb. each One has fake gold coins made out of lead covered in gold leaf. they weigh 1lb. 1 ounce each. You have 1 penny for a penny scale meaning you can only make ONE, only one weighing ? How do you figure out which bag has the fake gold coins ?
open the bags and scratch the coins.
the gold leaf comes off the fake ones.
ok here's one.
2 identical 2-gallon buckets
Both are filled to the top with water
The water in one bucket #1 is at 25 degrees F
The water in bucket #2 is at 45 degrees F
2 identical lead balls, each 2.5 inches in diameter
If you drop them at EXACTLY the same time, from a height of 32" above the rim of the buckets, one into Bucket #1 and the other into Bucket #2, which ball reaches the bottom of its bucket first? and Why?

Okay, I thought of two possible ways that may work.... but I'm not a whiz with math so bear with me
Solution 1: I would take one coin out of bag one (making sure I keep each bag separate)
2 coins out of bag two
3 coins out of bag three
I would then weigh those coins using the scale only once.
What ever the thousandths are when it is weighed is which bag has the real gold.
But my other way may work as well: you could take no coins out of bag 1, 1 from bag 2, 2 from bag 3 weigh those three coins. take the number of thousandths add one to it, and that possibly ( crosses fingers) tells which bag.
I may be a lil off, my math SUCKS ass man....:-\

PLM- Correct on the bookworm. Wrong on the coins- you have to use the scale.
Yours- I'm gonna guess and say the 45 degree water because it's less dense.
Here's 3 more : You are handed 13 cards- all Diamonds in the following order
A, 8, 5, 4, J, K, 9, Q,7, 6, 10, 3, 2 . There is a logical reason for them being in this order. What is it ?
144, 121, 100, 81, 64 , ___ what number comes next ?
Which of these is LEAST like the other four ? and WHY ? : " horse, kangaroo,
goat, cat , dingo "

This is the easiest one for me to solve 144, 121, 100, 81, 64 , ___ what number comes next ?
All of these numbers are the result of a
number multiplied by itself they are all square numbers so to figure this one out all you have to do is continue the pattern.
144 = 12 x 12
121 = 11 x 11
100 = 10 x 10
81 = 9 x 9
64 = 8 x 8
The numbers are going down in descending order so the next number has to be
7*7 ( sorry, I can't find the "multiply key::) ) So the missing number is 49.

Leave only has one syllable. But I think it's deeper than that. But leave(s), uncle(s), and delight(s) can have a plural form. I need another lifeline.

The cards are in alphabetical order if you spell out the names:
Ace
Eight
Five
Four
Jack
.
.
Three
Two
On the animal one, I'll guess Kangaroo since it's a marsupial, but that might be too easy.

I don't think anyone else is giong to take a stab at the bucket/lead ball one.
Here's one hint that might give it away.
45 degree F water is NOT less dense than 25 degree F water.
The water at 25 degrees F is A LOT LESS DENSE.

You people are TOO smart BUT you're all still stranded on the Moon with your oxygen running out.
Here's are 2 old classics : A man gets into a car accident and is brought to the hospital. The best doctor available is summoned, takes one look and refuses to operate. When asked "Why" he says:" brothers and sisters I have none but that man's father is my father's son ." Why wouldn't he operate ?
Is the phrase " I is " ever grammatically correct ?

O2 tank - Assuming I can hook it up to my suit
Compressed air tank from the raft - self propulsion
unmbrella - Sun shielding (the dark side of the moon isn't dark, you just can't see it from the earth)
as for the rest:
cell phone - yea, right
food and water - It seems you would have to remove your suit or at least your helmet to eat or drink.
blanket - could have been used for sun shielding like the unbrella
pistol - might fire on the moon (since a pistol will usually fire under water) might work for self propulsion, at most I would point it in the opposite direction I wanted to go and empty it. Then throw it so I guess I'm not really taking it with me.
rubber raft - Maybe I could cut it up and make a giant sling-shot to get me started on my way back. You didn't leave me anything to cut it with, so i guess it's worthless.
flare gun - would probably fire on the moon (since it will fire under water), but flares rely on the air for stable, predictable flight. If you fire it it's just as likely to come back and hit you in the face as it is to go any other direction.
Maybe, and this is a reach, you could build a small rocket using the food for fuel, the O2 tank for the oxidizer, and the flare gun for ignition, although it seems like you might blow your head off.

The doctor was the patient's father.
"I is the ninth letter of the alphabet." et al

YES.
It combines your last comment and this one. An east bound ship crossing the dateline, one twin born just before crossing on 3/1, the other just after crossing on 2/28 (during a non-leap year). Thier 21st birthdays fall on a leap year.

I have a riddle for ya'll
You whiz around the corner in your rented moped when suddenly you're forced to come to a sudden stop.
It seems a funeral procession has stopped for a quick breather. Empathy overwhelms you and you offer your condolences to the whimpering man nearby. "Were you close?" you ask, wishing you hadn't.
After a moment, the man replies, "Brothers and sisters I have none, that man's father is my father's son."
That sounds sarcastic, you think to yourself. Maybe the guy doesn't want to tell you, which is fine, but there's no reason to be a smartass about it.
Or, perhaps the clever among can see this is the real answer
What is the meaning of the man's answer?
