Urbanski does NOT have health insurance. What strip-club offers a health plan ? What he does have is a good lawsuit against Pac-man Jones and his posse. It appears as though the shooter may get away with it ( from a criminal standpoint ) thanks to the incompetence of the LVPD :
Item- The Police had evidence Jones fought with bouncers and threatened them yet was NOT arrested for assault. Why not ?
Item- A woman in Jones' posse, Sadia Morrison, attacked one dancer and hit bouncer Aaron Cudworth ( who was also shot a short time later) over the head with a champagne bottle but was NOT arrested for assault with a weapon. Why not ?
Item- The Police did NOT accompany Urbanski to the hospital in the ambulance. Why not ? This is SOP with a gunshot victim. If he I.D.'d his shooter it's admissible hearsay.
Item- Shortly BEFORE the shootings, Jones threatened to kill Cudworth. Numerous club employees have related these threats by Jones to reporters but to date, statements have NOT been taken by the LVPD. Why not ?
Item- Jones has hired the same law firm that represented Ray Lewis after he was implicated in a double stabbing murder at the Super Bowl in Atlanta.
Item- This whole mess is coupled with the effort by L.V. to get an NBA franchise. Las Vegas is due to make an arena proposal and a plan to handle gambling on NBA games in April.
Item- The Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman is a former lawyer for the Mob.Far be it from him to encourage police pressure on a "witness" to roll over.
A few rays of hope- Gene Upshaw head of the NFLPA has not come out in support of Jones. The NFL Commissioner arguably has the power to suspend Jones for "conduct detrimental to the League " under the Hornung / Karras/ Namath suspensions by Pete Rozelle. If I were the NFL Commish I'd suspend Jones for Two Years w/o pay BUT tell him it would be reduced to 1 year IF he gave up the shooter and testified against him. Don't hold your breath.
According to Msn.foxsports.com Jones has agreed to a plea deal as have his two co-defendants. Jones will reportedly plead nolo contendre ( he's facing a major civil suit and doesn't want to admit guilt ) to one count of "Conspiracy to Commit Disorderly Conduct" a gross misdemeanor and will get a years probation , attend anger mgt. and do 200 hours of community service. Part of the deal is that he
has reportedly agreed to ID the alleged shooter and testify in all future hearings and at trial against him.
We'll see but I still say: Don't hold your breath. Believe it when you see it.
A sidenote- NFL Commmissioner Goodell refused to shorten Jone's one year suspension from the NFL.
