...but with millions of dogs being killed every year because of overpopulation...breeding more..esp intentionally breeding mixed breeds is just not right. .....
Reptiles too.

Oh dont even get me started on exotics like reptiles and birds. Most people have NO idea what it is like to even take CARE of exotics...no less breed them. But idiots do it every day.

Oh lord, the birds! Poor babies. I was in Ohio this weekend and I had to go to Wal-Mart to get some things for a couple of shows. As I was leaving the parking lot I drove by a pet store and noticed a macaw playing in the window, and couldn't help myself I had to go say hi. It was a hyacinth, and the people in that store didn't even know how to pick him up. I got him out and played with him and you could tell they never got him out, because he didn't even know how to stand on my arm without falling over and clinging to me for dear life. It broke my heart to leave him there, knowing how such a beautiful bird was being locked in a cage and never let out. :'(

HOLY CRAP!!! They had a freakin' HYACINTH at a god dammed WAL MART????
I adore hyacinths...it is my dream to own one someday ...and I am appalled and shocked that a wal mart had one. They are fairly rare(at least in the US) and extremely expensive(for those who dont know). What were they selling him for? Did they even know what they had????And he was falling? Was he very young? I'm wondering if he was ill if he wasnt a baby and still had no balance....

Oh lord no, he wasn't in the Wal-Mart, he was in the pet store attached to the Wal-Mart. He was $18,000, and even I know that that's WAY more than they normally are. The lady that runs the Nashville Zoo keeps my birds on occasion and she breeds hyacinths, and they aren't $18,000. He was more than a year old, almost two, so he should have had decent balance. Poor guy......

Whew...I couldnt believe that when I thought he was IN the wal mart.Still..in a pet store is bad enough...with how hard they are to breed and how expensive they are(not to mention that under the best of circumstances you only get one chick a year) I cant imagine anyone giving their baby to a pet store to sell....and..18K? I've seen breeders at trade shows with just weaned babies as low as $7K. Usually around $10K $18K is insane.
Is there anything else you could see aboutthis pet store? Dirty..sick puppies or kittens? Anything that would warrent a call to the animal welfare division? If the bird was sick....I'd love to see them investigated.

No, everything was clean and all that. I honestly think he just didn't get any actual human interaction (other than people poking at him and tapping on the cage)and was starved for attention. He went nuts when I finally had to put him back up.
(Sorry for the threadjack, ya'll.)

Here is my boy, Apollo. He is a 15 pound Maine Coon mix. We got him from a Petsmart, through a group that doesn't put down their cats... :)
Here he is in the kitchen, he loves the camera!

I am loving all these cats pics!!! Here is a couple of my babys i saved,
From the top-Nevaeh, 3,mean to everyone, rules the house, makes all the rules. Fights other cats in the house for food and always wins.
Second-Panthro aka pannie, Lives with my sister up north now. Very smart and loves to open/close doors, turn off lights, turn on the water in the sink, etc. very spoiled.
Third-Basically my child. I saved him from a very abusive home(they would beat him bloody, and tried to set him on fire once) when i was 10. Sweetest cat i have ever met, a "lap cat". He was sleeping all excited cause i bought him a new pillow home that night lol.
Fourth-Malibu, aka beatles...She is very old and stinky. Have to groom her almost everyday. She also was beat bad for years, so she doesnt like to come out too often. only for about 10 mins a day and then shes back to under the bed!

I come from a family of "yorkie-freaks"! my baby is named Loki, he's just under 4lbs, but he's perfect! I raised him since he was 5 days old, because Mama Brandi wasn't down with having a pup. So I love him in a special way.....oh lord.....However, despite the fact that he's gorgeous and perfect (as in : Breed Standard); I had his testicles removed........I feel bad occasionally, as he's just lovely, and the puppies.....oh the puppies!
But.....lots of lovely puppies need homes, and if I throw away a grand for every time that he cannot breed.....big fuckin' deal...blah....I want every puppy to have a loving home, so I won't be putting more out there, despite the potential for BIG money from the Yorkie freaks....but my lil' stinky guy (it's what my Grandfather calls him, it stuck....I assure you that he is regularly bathed) is my favorite creature in the world, and I won't feel bad that he's around (because I love him oh-so-much!)....but I won't EVER buy a pup from a breeder!
PS.....Hyacinth? like a flower? how would I recognize one? (just curious....a cockatoo took off the end of a finger when I was a kid.....so birds scare me a bit *still*)
