Both are really good. I personally think that MAC have better shimmer colours, but I prefer the matte colours from MUFE. MUFE shadows are nice because they're good to use as either a wet or a dry. You can wet your brush and they practically turn into paint, so you can get extreme vibrant colours from them. They also have some awesome colours, if you're into crazy bright stuff... they have a bright matte barbie pink, and matte canary yellow, bright lime green, etc, and you can't go past their flat matte black, for a really intense black look. I think MAC are better if you're going for a nice shimmery look, though.

Make Up For Ever eyeshadows are amazing. Sometimes they're actually TOO good. The pigment in them is so amazingly strong. That purple I'm wearing, it actually stains my lids. When I wear it, I'll often have a purple tint to my lids for 2 days afterwards, even if I scrub at it. They're great for work.

Heh, not a lot of people know it but I actually did a 12 month degree in makeup artistry and technology (which I hated and have never used, other than to do my own makeup), and Make Up For Ever was the eyeshadow that all my trainers recommended if you want one that will STICK.

darcy,

I like Loreal HIP as well. Their makeup has very high pigmentation especially great for people mixed race girls. I love it.

I find MUFE shadows harder to blend than MAC, esp if you're learning. I still have a hard time with my quad from MUFE - will post a pic wearing it once I upload it. Like their star powders tho(similar to MAC's pigments) - super easy to blend and come in lots of bright colors too. Shimmery shadows generally blend easier than matter ones. To make your blue shadow really pop, you should use a base that is also blue. MAC shadestick in Sea Me is great and it's kinda crayon-like so it's really easy to use. I'm wearing that in the first pic and so is my friend. If that is too bright, they also have a silvery blue one - Silverbleu . The UD primer will help it last longer, but won't really make it "more blue". I always use a shadestick in a coordinating color if I want my shadow really bright.

I've gotten good by practicing. Paying attention when I get my makeup done at MAC or at work. If I know I'm spending more than $45 when I go to MAC, I try to schedule an appt to have them do my makeup. Hopefully, I'll learn something new or I'll show them a picture of makeup I like and ask them to do it on me. I think good brushes are essential for blending. MAC brushes are fantastic, Sephora and Target also have good ones that are a bit cheaper. I also look at the member pics and tutorials on specktra.net to learn new techniques and ideas.

Im big on smokey eyes, But I use 2 shades of blues, shimmer on the lid itself, greens ( 3 shades ) 2 goldens..and than a true gold...gray and 2 shades of black mixed with 2 shades of purple haha.. I literally use that much in one night to form one shade. i hate fake lashes so I stray away from em'. although I think if I used them it would add more umph to my eyes

Using MAC paint as a base coat and then following with the CCB (Cream Color Base) will help you adhere and layer the shadows/piggies.

I have UDPP...if you want it, it's yours. I used it a grand total of 2 times. I like it...but I much more prefer the MAC Paints and CCB.

I followed one of those tutorials on Specktra and it looks awesome! I feel so purdy and sexy. But I tried taking pics with the camera phone (as I don't own a digital camera :( ) but the makeup didn't really show up. I mean, it looked liked I was wearing makeup sorta but not really. Does that mean it my makeup won't really stand out in the club lighting? Should I wear more?

These are a couple pics but after looking thru the couple dozen photos i took, it turns out the majority of them are just blurs!!! Dammit. :'( They looked really good in the preview screen. Why does it always lie to me? Anyway, one of them is sorta blurry but not too bad, and the other is ok but not really that close up (also, you'll have to excuse the dirty, unwashed hair lol.)

if you're serious, yeah I want it!

But maybe I should jsut get my ass to the MAC store and have them play on me. I've never tried the shadesticks but I've been wanting to, esp now.

the greens didn't come out as smokey as I wanted. I should have used black in the outer v and THEN gone over that with the dark green (femme noir).

I used:
hot & sour paint
olive green pigment
emerald green pigment
femme noir e/s
BE's gossimer for highlight (applied wet)
blacktrack on the top line
femme noir and emerald green on the bottom line
frostline on the rim (which sucks on the rim btw: it's golden, not white like I wanted)

So, this thread got me all makeup happy and I was looking at MAC's stuff online and I don't see any good colors in paints or color cream bases. Like maybe 2 I'm interested in pigments. The counter at the Dillard's by me has a crappy selection too. Will they have more colors at the MAC store? I really don't feel like driving the 15 miles out of the way if their line is just boring now. :-\

because of this thread, I went out and got new makeup today. EEE!

I got some MAC Fluidline in Blitz & Glitz, MAC Bare Canvas Paint (I compared the way e/s "popped" on this versus Beige-ing shadestick and thought BC looked much more true and had more staying power wen I tried to rub it), MAC brush 224 (tapered blending brush),

and this Urban Decay pallete:

You are really cute. :)

I am really girl next door too, but when I make myself up, I can play it off. ;)
I think you just have to make your makeup darker/heavier. I like your techniques but they do look softer and lighter than what you need to wear in a club...

But I'm sure someone who knows better than me will get back to you on ow you can look more made up. :)

LatinaRose, how do you keep the eyeshadow from kinda..."sprinkling" down on your face when you apply it? I always have this problem, especially with darker or loose eyeshadow.

Darcy Foxx
02-26-2007, 10:02 PM
Before you do your eyes, put a generous amount of loose translucent powder on your cheeks. That way, if any shadow falls down it will fall onto the powder which can be easily brushed away without leaving any marks when you've finished doing your eyes. Also, when you load up your brush with shadow, tap it against your finger/hand to remove any loose particles.

I have this problem quite frequently. I just do my eyes first, then wipe off all the fallout with a face wipe, then do my foundation and powder. I feel it is easier this way, even tho a lot of people say the "proper" way is to day your face first. I say do whatever works best for you. I don't really like the layer of translucent powder underneath - my face stills looks too powdery when I dust it off. I like more of a dewy fresh look.

PleasureVictim - I don't know the number on those lashes. I am pretty sure they are Sally brand and not Ardell, but I could be wrong. You will find them right with other lashes. They have a supermodel line, too, they are all named after models. Check out the Tyra's and Giselle's, really like those too. The sparkly lashes should be right around those.

Thanks everyone for your compliments. Since I have been pm'd a few times about this, this is the eye makeup used in the black/gray smokey eye in the first post:

All MAC:

Forgery - inner corner
Black Tied - outer 3rd
Knight Devine - blended on the lid between the two
Arena - highlight with forgery on top of it

Fluidline in Blacktrack to line.

If anyone has a question about what makeup used, just ask me and I'll post it if I remember. I have some pics from this weekend too, so I will upload them this afternoon and post them.

^I do the exact same thing! Eyes first, clean up the mess underneath, THEN do my face makeup. It's so much easier than doing eyes last.

Emily
02-27-2007, 02:12 PM
I got in the habit of doing my eyes first and face second when I didn't have air conditioning. My face makeup would sweat off when I did my eyes. Yuck. Now I jsut prefer it. But I do have other issues.

Mascara and eyeliner....

What do you do when you get mascara on your eyeshadow? I HATE THAT! But I don't want to do mascara first because my lashes get in the way of the makeup I'm applying.

And with gel liners, you are putting eyeshadow in the little pot every time you dip back in for more.

LatinaRose
02-27-2007, 02:17 PM
Hmmm, I always slap on some fake eyelashes then mascara, so I never really get it on my shadow. I have heard that if you let the mascara dry first, it will just flake off rather than smearing all over your shadow.

I have never had a problem with getting eyeshadow in my gel liner pot. Do you use a separate brush with your liner??

Emily
02-27-2007, 02:19 PM
yes, I use a liner brush, but I put the liner on over shadow and it picks a little up when I wipe it over my lid

LOL! You must think I'm a complete dork...I do this.

What I'm saying is this is why I sometimes want to apply liner first, then shadow.

Just like why I like to apply eye makeup before face makeup.

I'm still learning all this, so bear with me. :)

LatinaRose
02-27-2007, 04:27 PM
^^Oh, ok, I see what you are saying now. Sorry for stating the obvious!!

For those who asked about a girl next door look - If I want to go more low key, I just make sure my skin looks perfect (girl next door essential) and wear some fake eyelashes that are more subtle (like #7's from MAC). The lashes help to sex it up and give you big doe eyes without looking like you have a lot of makeup on. I barely wear eyeshadow with this look - just a really subtle nude color and a highlight on my browbone.

I just can't get my head around doing eyes first. At the makeup academy I went to it was a BIG no-no, I think they'd have beaten us if we tried to do it that way. We had to do it the 'proper' (impractical) way.

Looking back, I think those lashes are a bit creepy. Next time I do this look, I'll use thick, full lashes.

Stilife paint all over, Glittercreme all over on top of that, Teal pigment in Crease, Provence pigment on lid, Blacktrack to line. Stilife applied w/ angle brush from outer corner of eye out between the top and bottom line. Vanilla pigment w/ mixing medium applied on top of that.

colors please for post 95? Do I detect a hint of old gold in there or is it olive green (inner lid)? That's kinda what I was going for on saturday night but it didn't quite come out that vivid. :(

Are you using mixing medium?

I can't always do my eyes first just because of the fact that I have undereye circles that need concealer beforehand. I'll do it on good days, though. :)

LatinaRose

VegasPrincess - Lining your inner rim/waterline: I take a q-tip and lightly wipe off any moisture. Apply a generous amount of Fluidline with 263 brush. Shut your eye for a few seconds to help transfer some to the top inner rim (as this is extremely difficult to line, but will help make your lashes look fuller). Reapply to the bottom inner rim, try to let it dry before closing your eye again. This lasts pretty much all night for me at work.

Colors for post #95 - I believe it is Old Gold (inner lid) and Forest Green (outer 3rd and crease) pigments with a little Humid and Carbon (outer 3rd and crease) e/s thrown in. Arena e/s on browbone. No mixing medium, I think the only base I used was a Paint, probably Stilife or Tan Ray. To get more intense color, you can load up your brush and sort of pack it heavily on your lid and only blend the very edges. I recently bought Lucky Jade Shadestick (will post a pic with it later) and it really helps to intensify greens. Pics from post #95 were from awhile ago, so I know I didn't use it in that one.

Bellona - It's not the fake lashes that makes you lose your own eyelashes. If you get glue on your own lashes while applying them, then come home drunk and rip them off (which happens to me!), you are bound to lose some of your own if they were glued to the fake ones. The key is to not get any glue on your lashes, just on your lid.

Thank God It's Francis - when I have circles, I do my concealer around my eyes first where it's hard to get close your eyeliner, then my eyemakeup, wipe off the fallout, then go back and retouch my concealer.
