Not that it matters, but I'll be in Vegas mid June on business.

Well, after MDW I think would be better for two reasons. It would be cheaper, and you get to avoid the mayham of overly crowded places. Hotels and every other place you go will jack up prices bc of the holiday, just like every other place.

^I totally agree with that. Plus a lot of people prolly have to do family stuff that weekend.

What about the weekend following? would that be better for a lot of people?

I agree with avoiding MDW. Any weekend after that would work and you can add me to the car pool list. And what about getting a group rate at one nearby decent hotel for the out of towners?

Dangit, Memorial Day Weekend would be an excellent weekend for me to come to NYC...I was going to come to the States anyway (just a matter of where). My personal preference would be to keep the date the same.

I'm in. I live like 145 miles away and driving in the city is one of my top 10 favorite things to do, so I'll definitely be staying in Jersey.
I vote for Memorial Day weekend, as well. Weekend before, I'll be in FBR's neck of the woods and the weekend after, my precious Giants will be losing to the Phillies. Can't miss an east coast Giants weekend. Heck, Barry might hit one. or even two!
Looking forward to it...

I'm ready to buy my plane ticket too. Jet Blue has screamin' rates from Portland to JFK.

Hey, another question to the locals...
If I'm going I would likely fly into Newark airport. Would I be better served staying in Jersey and taking the train into town daily, or should I bite the bullet and stay in town? And if I stay in town, what area would be most convenient? (I'm not quite in "cost is no object" territory, but I'm willing to pay a little more for a decent room in a non-sketchy location.)

ok I'm clueless as to the geography of the city. How far away is JFK?

Give me in the butt! :D
LoveSexMoney
03-19-2007, 06:25 PM
hmmmm...I wonder how would I get there then from the airport. I could take the train down but that's a bit more involved as it would involve 2 separate trains in addition to me getting to the first train station to begin with. grrrrr...maybe I should just take the friggin bus. ;D

I am not sure about Canada, but to renew a US passport, if you pay $40-50 extra, they have it for you in 2 weeks. It comes out to about $105 with expediting. If not, it takes about 8-10 weeks. But that's US. Might as well just get it taken care of now Cally....

Well, I voted for doing it in the butt. But I'm all done with school by mid-May, so if I got a ticket in time I'd be able to go. I haven't met any SW'ers yet(:'(), so I'd really like to be able to go. What are the days for sure? And I've never been to New York either so that would be really exciting.

Well what im thinking is if I am in or around Toronto at that time I can hop the train down to NYC so I dont need my passport.
Just settle on a date and let me know and i'll see what I can do.

Oooo I've really been wanting to go to NYC. I didn't want to go all by myself (most of my friends are broke), so this would be cool so I wouldn't be wondering the city alone. I can most likely make it, if it ends up being Memorial weekend or after. I'll find out for sure once everyone decides on the dates!

I'll commit right now to staying the 25-30th at least since I like New York and wouldn't go just for three days at any rate. I'm also pretty confident about keeping myself housed and amused no matter what. So I officially offer to host for that whole period and have a party every night at whatever apartment I sublet for a week. Guest list subject to my approval, of course }:D

OK, I might just change my flight on to drop into NYC after Europe before going home all the way. I've always wanted to go to New York anyway. So I'll try to catch whoever's still there for partying.

I could roll up to NYC on Sunday or Monday anytime, but I'm locked down for the weekends. I usually just hop on Greyhound. I know it's a little skeevy, but it's 12 bucks one way. I dont have to worry about paying to park, gas, 13 bucks worth of tolls, my car disappearing, or traffic or anything, I just hop off at the Port Authority Station and go. So, that's an option for you Philly/South NJ types.

Yep, as long as I've booked a place and am not staying with friends up there.

Like I said, I'll be down for hanging out if it's not Memorial Day Weekend. Also, if you're doing it during the week, I can only come in after the corporate world unshackles me each day.
In other words, count me in!!!
SouthStBabe, let's talk about carpooling girl. I'll call you to discuss.

Well, well, well...I guess somebody didn't use enough lube! }:D
Let me get one thing out of the way: I've already invited two people to stay in my place and I have room for no more. I really, really don't.
Nicolina's suggestion might work if someone's somewhat familiar with NYC, but if someone's not, it can be pretty convoluted coming in from NYC, especially since Metro North is a commuter railway. If someone going that route decides to knock a few back, they might not even be able to get back when they want to and a taxi ride will cost a lot of money to go all the way out there.
As a Manhattanite, I still think the best course of action would be to sublet a place for a few days through maybe Craiglist or some of the other mentioned sources or cram four people into a hotel room.
For those of you complaining about costs, a few ideas:
1) Pick up some extra shifts. That one's a no-brainer.
2) If your town offers departures from where you live, fly into NYC via Jet Blue or just scour the internet for fares. There are three major airports in NYC (Newark Liberty, LaGuardia and JFK) so it's not uncommon to find good deals going into NYC.
3) What I mentioned above about cramming a few chicks into a room (ideally ones you already know, of course) or subletting a place for a few days. I cannot stress enough that most "budget" hotels in NYC are utter nasty dives. If you can deal with it, go for it.
If someone has kids or some such situation and their finances might be a bit more precarious, this might not work. But it is do-able, and not too difficult.

Also, are SO's welcome on this one?

Well, this sounds like fun. Thanks Susan for getting back so quickly on the SO situation.
And I agree on Ladies Only functions as well. I don't need him tagging around for everything!
Boo...I'm not going to start dancing until next month, and I think I'd be right out of having enough money to go. I'll just have to wait for the next one, I guess. :(

Excepting those of the fabulously wealthy, Manhattan apartments can't accomodate more than one or two extra people tops--and that would be a really tight squeeze in most cases.

I'm all about it! I'm also about bunking up to save on the moolah. I vote not-Memorial-Day also, since it'll undoubtedly be more expensive then, but I'm willing to go on Memorial Day if that's the decision. Three cheers for partay-ing with strippers in NYC! I'll be making a shopping trip to Babeland personally, they have sex workers discounts! http://www.babeland.com/home/ }:D

should we do another poll on the date? since it seems like people are split on the idea....
Also, who is going to be spearheading the organization of the event?
