This is creepy on so many levels. I never heard of this, but now that I have I think it's the stupidest thing you could do. Totally counterproductive to it's purpose. I mean really, talk about temptation. At a young age before the girl is even aware of what she's doing, she makes a promise to not do something. Automatically making it a forbidden fruit. (Dammit those are the best kind.) Then they give her a reminder in the form of the ring which she'll carry with her until marriage. Don't have sex, don't have sex, don't think about sex, don't be tempted by sex, don't listen to others stories about sex, I mean damn that's a ton of damn pressure and talk about sublime reverse psychology.

Damn, I have enough trouble controlling myself as it is, man if I had a ceremony like that I think I'd be a nympho by now. I mean is it any wonder they fail when put in a situation like that?

About the college thing I think that's just sad. I mean who gives a fuck if your celebate? Then you go out and make a big deal out of it. I mean really fucking dingleberries. Might as well tatto a damn PL tat on their foreheads. Now don't get it twisted I respect celibacy, but I'd act the same way if they started a sexually active group. GTF out her with that BS! Fucktards! I swear sometimes you think theres a limit to how stupid people are and then you see shit like this.

I am constantly horrified by the manipulation of children as regards sexual matters. We underinform them, misinform them and coerce them into abstinence. It doesn't work. Study after study has proven that while abstinence pledges may delay the age of first sexual experience, they make it less likely that condoms will be used and more likely that the child will contract a STI in the first year of sexual activity.

Telling kids "just don't have sex" is not effective. We need a better strategy. It'd be nice if the governent funded comprehensive sexual education, rather than throwing money at abstinence-only education programs (which are offered predominantly in public schools).

Yes indeed, sex is evil. Promise not to have it, before you even know what it is!

I would be very interested in seeing the demographics on retention of virginity--as in what population groups maintain it longer. And also the incidence of child abuse and molestation, demographically speaking--I have heard it is most common in affluent families. I tried a search but couldn't get conclusive results.
