Why must one shop on sunday? Over croweded... wait till sunday night. lol or mid week.
Oh and I'm cooking your Honey-Sesame-BBQ chicken soon, marinading for about 18 hours.
I shop on Sunday because it's the only free day I have that I can get to the deli before it closes. Since I live in one of those rich, uppity areas, everyone's away at their shore houses in the summer and ski chalets in the winter - rarely is there ever a crowd when I go on Sundays.
I hope you enjoy those wings, they are just so seriously yummy that we end up eating like a pound a piece of the chicken, plus whatever sides I make to go with 'em!

Every Sunday I buy the Sunday NY Times and go to a tiny corner bagel shop to have breakfast and read (outside, if it's nice). This morning there were posters up saying the place would be closed on Monday to honor an employee who had died. The picture was of this extremely sweet and cheerful young man (early 20s, I'm guessing) who was there every Sunday and often made my bagel. I asked his co-workers what had happened; they didn't know.
It just brought home to me the simple fact that our lives--precious, crazy, complicated, surprising, inspiring--can end so abruptly and without warning. While I don't believe in heaven myself, I hope for his sake that kid is there now.

'Nauseous' isn't a proper word, technically. The word you want is nauseated.

You boy is going to have to adapt!! Dam I miss all that stuff. Luckily I can cook some of it.
Well I still have a day to make up my mind. So I don't know yet. Probably end up with rice unless....Do you have some suggestions for that? I have plenty of prep/cooking time tonight.
Oh don't tempt me with Chinatown Lady Jade.... if I can rustle up a few dozen high paying extra jobs I might just consider it. Biggest problem I have now, other than time, is no space to do my work. Melbourne had a beautiful Chinatown... and even Box Hill was like a mini Hong Kong. I really miss that stuff, food, culture, etc.... Dam now I'm thinking moon festivals. Wonder if anywhere around here celebrates the lunar new year...

Burried in this thread, but I'll repost a copy here now. It smells so dam good!
Honey-Sesame BBQ Chicken Wings
2 lbs chicken wings (I like to use wingettes), clean and dry
1/4 C. honey
3 Tbs. oyster-flavor sauce (I know, I know... seafood... deal with it )
3 Tbs. hoisin sauce
2 Tbs. conventional, American bbq sauce
2 Tbs. ketchup
1 Tbs. sesame oil
1/4 C. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. garlic powder or 2 Tbs. crushed garlic
1/2 tsp. pepper
chili oil or crushed red pepper flakes to your liking
(Honestly, I'm just guessing at the amounts, I never measure anything)
Combine everything but chicken in a big ziploc bag. Squish it up really well so everything is combined. Add chicken. Marinate up to 24 hours. Pour into foil-lined baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 mins, turning once and basting with sauce. Voila!
There's plenty of the bbq sauce left over for dipping. Just be careful because the sauce bubbles up as you bake it, keeping the chicken moist despite the high temp and length of cooking. You can adjust the recipe depending on how much sauce you want left over and how much chicken you want to make.
I made one variation that I'll post later, after I taste.

Well you might have to skip the oyster sauce then.
You may well find:
Vegetarian oyster sauce
Vegetarian oyster sauce prepared from mushrooms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushroom), often oyster mushrooms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyster_mushrooms), is also popular and generally cheaper. It may contain more taste enhancers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavour_enhancer) if less mushroom extract is used to reduce costs.
http://www.passionatevegetarian.com/r_vegetarian_oyster_sauce.htm
-The normal one should be found in just about any supermarkets Asian section, and for the vegetarian one I'm not so sure...
Oh and I liked the illegal bit.
Then again I am still illegal to feed Brussels sprouts. yuck... one of the very few foods I will not eat.

Boy is a stereotypical white boy, meat and potatoes only. I've gotten him to try things, but they're just not his thing. At all.
As for sides, it depends on whether you want to do more of an Asian them or an American one. For the Asian one, I like to make rice with mint and peas and then some sauteed Chinese broccoli or Bok Choy. If I'm in more of an American mood, there's nothing like some corn on the cob and potato salad!
I just stopped by my mom's house and picked up moon cakes. I'm so excited to eat them after dinner! *bounces*

whats that? we had really specific (silly ::) ) questons to answer. it was more about italian american culture than italian since it had to be about me. and i need to bring in something that symbolizes that culture, and "has personal meaning to your or your family" and i have no idea what to take in!

It's cheaper to buy bottled sauce, but I always feel that if you can make it yourself, it's so worth it. It's healthier because you know what's in it. You can control the level of seasoninings and salt. The only "bottled" sauce I ever buy anymore is from the local Italian grocery store. They make their sauce right there in their kitchen and it is amazing! And their fresh mozzarella... ooooh... *drool*

ahh, then i took it out of context...but, Italians boycotted pasta for 1-day as a demonstration against the rising price of pasta.

If the relationship is not working and it's over, then it doesn't matter whether he sees it or not. You just need to go. What are you waiting for? It's not like you can't afford to move out, though he probably just needs to go home to Mum and let you keep your house. But why are you still with him if it's already over?
This little thing called: if we separate physically, I have to leave the country.
He keeps saying he's willing to stay friends and be around physically for me so we can stay together that way... but next thing I know he's climbing into my shower and I'm like...um... I thought we talked about this.

Being cooking-inclined is great because it can save a lot of money. Plus, it makes all my friends feel so special because instead of just going out to eat, I prepare their favorite home-cooked dishes when they come to visit.
Of course, there's the other side. I always feel horribly guilty when I'm feeling too lazy to cook. That makes me feel sad. :(
