We should organize a troll invasion of our own. Just pick some random forum and rush on in. Y'know, for a laugh.

Can we have some sort of qualifying exam to be able to post on SW? Or a three day lag after signing up?
Or do I have to stand at the door with a large stick or gun or something?:killer: *wants to kill trolls* Please?

Eh. It's just the same crap over and over. If I'm going to be avoiding homework on a Sunday night, I want to be entertained! And I'm a little bitchy right now.

I agree...you'd think that once in awhile we'd get trolls that actually have a FEW brain cells and are fun to fuck with.
But no....le sigh.....I suppose the Star Trek chat rooms are down so they have nothing else to do

I'm grading a huge stack of movie reviews by 4-7 graders. This is extraordinarily tedious. One of them is so good I'm convinced she copied it, but I can't find the duplicate online so I guess she'll get an A! Everyone else... :banghead:

I swear these are bored 14 year olds (or possibly bored students from my college). There are so many people who need hobbies out there. Seriously, oragami, guys. or at least WOW.

Haha. That must be it. I just realized that my last comment sounded bitchy, but this one girl isn't that eloquent and her paper is SO much better than everyone else's that it makes me suspicious. Ah well. She gets the A anyway for at least turning in something that isn't a total waste of my time to read. I swear these kids didn't even read the assignment.
I'm getting sick of them not taking my class seriously, either. They have a movie review due every week and they know this. And every week at least half of them are, "Oh, I didn't have time to do it, I had so much other homework!" WTF. They got their other homework done, but the hell with mine? And it's not like a one-page handwritten movie review is a huge project. You watch a movie of YOUR choosing, you write a page about it. I would think they'd be thrilled to get to watch movies for homework. I'm always so peeved when half the kids don't turn in a review, and then on Monday I ask who saw a movie over the weekend, and the same kids raise their hands. Yeah, you were SO swamped with other homework you had time to watch a movie, but not to write a single page about it. ::)
Then again, I guess they're doing me a favor. I'd have twice as many papers to grade if they'd all done the assignment. At least writing "0" in the grade column only takes a second.

Some kids are better expressing themselves on paper, so maybe that's it? I know I often sound like an idiot in class. Okay, lots, but I'm better on paper. Or she copied somewhere you haven't found yet.
I don't know how kids can't take a movie class seriously-it's movie watching for a grade! How great it that? I wanna take your class for credit. I wonder if maybe their parents have disparaged the class, making it seem like not worth the time that science and math are?

^^^ Or she had one of her parents write the paper for her...

09-30-2007, 08:19 PM
I'm sure that's a lot of it. And the principal suspends them from my class if they don't behave in their "real" classes or turn in their math/English/science homework. So it's little wonder they don't have any respect for my class. On Friday, this one girl (about 13) gleefully said, "Hey, my mom said I don't have to take your class anymore!" I had no idea how to answer such rudeness, so I just smiled and said, "I wouldn't dream of keeping you if you had better things to do." Damn me for being all Southern and gracious... L.A. kids don't hear the sharp edges in responses like that.
I'll be glad when this semester is over. There are times I like it, but I'm tired of being disrespected by a bunch of little kids who seem to think I'm just there to torture them for the fun of it. I'd definitely rather teach adults.
RoseLeigh

Ye gods, that sounds awful. Sometimes when I hear the stuff kids say, I think maybe we should put them in the mines at age 5. :D Or at least have them taught by nuns. Then they'll know fear.

Just send all the kids to my mother. They'll have some fucked-up issues, but they'll starve to death before they open their mouths to be rude to a teacher. All my teachers had to do was call my mama and say hello, and before I knew who was on the phone she'd yank a switch off the bush outside, strip the leaves off, and wear me out. I always knew to wear heavy courduroy pants on report card day.

Oh my! We got the wooden spoon. Not fun. Did that tree have any branches left?
Yekhefah
09-30-2007, 08:48 PM
*sigh* Yes, that damn bush is still thriving. I tried everything to kill it when I was a kid but it's still tougher than me. Not too long ago, I peed on it out of revenge. My brothers say they pee on it all the time for the same reason - we've all had big nasty welts all over the backs of our legs from that asshole plant!
I think every Southern kid knows the sound of all the leaves being stripped off a switch. I heard a kid doing it at the park once, just fooling around, and I couldn't help but put my hand over my butt!
cameron_keys
09-30-2007, 08:54 PM
I would have killed for a switch when I was a kid! My dad would either put us on a chair facing the wall where we had to sit for HOURS...sometimes DAYS.
One really bad one...when he found out I lost my virginity he locked me in my bedroom for the whole summer. And kept me from going to my Junior prom.
A few minutes of ow and a sore butt for a while would have been preferable to me to losing all freedom and everything for months.
RoseLeigh
09-30-2007, 08:55 PM
Yikes! Kinda glad I'm not southern, but well, the sight of a wooden spoon being brandished is no good either. I stick to plastic spoons myself. For cooking, not hitting people. Maybe kids in LA need to learn the fear of bushes? }:D
Lady Jade

Large amounts of salt might have done something to it. Or plant ivy under it. That's what killed the bushes outside of our apartment this summer.

I don't know, at my house a walloping was often accompanied by talk about God and stuff. I'd have taken the chair and quiet.
Being locked in the room though, that's no good. Thankfully, according to my mom, I'm still a virgin.

Oh, I got both. I'd get that damn switch until my ass and thighs were covered in bloody welts, and then I'd be grounded. No phone even. I get pissed off with the way my brothers get away with bloody murder; she was so strict with me it's not even funny. Made me a good person though, I guess.

I could probably go to the Walgreens or CVS (ours are all 24 hour), but that would mean I'd have to get dressed, and that honestly is going to require more energy than I've got right now!
I drank two bottles of water and feel a little better, so I'm just going to go pass out. If I still feel shitty in the morning, I'll hit the emergency clinic before work.
