The general way it works is to make hay while the sun shines because for most girls the calls slow down after a couple of years or so.
Yes, this has historically been the case. Customers thus producers are always looking for "new meat". Thus, unless the girl has direct ties to the porn business (other than her acting - I mean stuff like Jenna's business investments, an ongoing personal relationship with a producer), once a body of 'material' has been shot and distributed the future demand and future price offerings tend to drop off quickly. Of course there are girls who, for whatever reason, are exceptions to this general rule.

I don't think porn actresses are prostitutes. I see a difference, insofar as the circumstances are much different. Like for myself, giving some regular joe-blow a lapdance for $20- I wouldn't compare that to Halle Berry demanding an extra $800 000 to show her tits on camera. Maybe that's a weak analogy, but I think the only thing prostitution and porn acting have in common are professional sex. But with a prostitute, of any ranking, he/she is being paid to get the client off. With porn, it really is acting/ entertainment that has little to do with the sex partners.
I mean, it depends on the definition of prositution. If someone told me he was a prostitute, I would be surprised if he said "by that, I mean that I do porn". It's just not the typical association I would make.
But I don't think definitions are so important, except I guess to someone who is offended by certain labels. I mean, I could see how people could make the argument that stripping is 'prostitution', or even regular actresses are 'prostitutes' if they make out with other actors on screen. If by 'prostitution' a person means 'selling sex acts', then yeah I think lapdances and even nudity are akin to selling sex. I disagree with that definition, but I don't really care. If someone wants to call what I do prostitution, then whatever. I don't have sex for money, and i barely have sex for free. But people will call other people just about anything they want.

Porn also comes in a variety of stripes, some not involving sex at all (fetish work, for instance). SuicideGirls and similar sites are also technically porn, but they involve no more than nudity.

I hope this isn't too offensive...I have no problem with or judgements on either profession.
I was talking to a fellow dancer earlier, and in the course of the conversation, she made a point that ended with: "I don't see what confusion between prostitutes and dancers has to do with porn advertisments [on a dancer site]. Are porn stars prostitutes??? No."
To which I was like, "huh?".
So I wondered, for those that feel that porn stars are not prostitutes, what differentiates the two?
Again, please don't think I'm casting judgement or whatever. I have respect for both professions.
Not to offend anyone also but I thought the same question.

A) inner ambit versus outer ambit of the First Amendment
B) all actors in a porn film being paid by the producer, versus one person paying another person in the case of prostitution

Ive starred in several adult films and I get asked all the time what sep. me from an escort....and my response was always "Lights, cameras, legalities...and a negative STD test." I let people take from that what they may......lol

From a legal standpoint, there isn't any paradox. When someone is performing in front of a camera even if they are performing sex acts they are protected by the first amendment and being paid as a performer (i.e. technically not paid to perform sex acts, only to 'act' in accordance with script and stage directions which may include sex acts or not).
When the same person is performing sex acts in a hotel room with a 'fan' it is a straightforward business transaction of sex for money that is subject to business regulation.
I know a girl whos a hooker. One of her johns pays her for just blowjobs, but he films her when she does this. Because his dick is on camera, does this technically qualify him as a porn star too, even if the videos are never sold? Is that a legal loophole, or can he still get busted for solicitation?
Dude pisses me off, btw. He comes into my club trying to get me to do the same AND pose for naked pics. All for the amazingly high price of...... $75.00. Riiiiiiiiiiight.............. :-\

I do consider porn and prostitution to be the same thing, yeah. But I have no problem with people doing either. I wish I could. I love porn and I love hookers! But anyway, IMO they're both sex for money, which is prostitution in my book.
Agreed.

By the technical things I've been told on set, that still qualifies as a hooker. Is she filling out her 2257 forms, a model release, getting an AIM test, and doing a 1099? Probably not. It's not as simple as having some dude film you while he's getting laid.

No I don't think so. Just like Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, or any actress for that matter is not considered a prostitute, but an entertainer. Adult film stars are also entertainers who recieve payment for acting services.

No way this isn't prostitution. The distinction of course is that, in a porn video, the male actor is himself being paid by a producer and the male actor has made no direct payment to the female actor (who is also paid by a producer). Thus there is no direct 'sex for money' connection between the male and female actors. In your 'home video' example, there is no producer and the male ""actor"" has indeed made a direct payment to the female ""actor"".

the main difference between being a prostitute and a porn star:
in one instance, you're getting paid for a service: you're being paid for sexual gratification
in the latter, you're being paid to produce a product that is used for entertainment purposes. There are mainstream Hollywood movies where the actors decided to have sex for real, or were really naked, and that is definitely not classified as hooking.

We call these in the industry 'GWC' (guy with camera) If hes having her sign a form 2257 and a release and they both have less than 30 day old STD tests and it will be distributed then yes, it is porn. If not, its a guy filming a bj.
Some GWCs are real porn... there are POV (point of view) websites where the actor is the star too. I associate these guys as guys who want to get off and try to fuck porn girls and make a website just to justify.
