^^... i'm not upset. that's way too much emotion for an internet board. i said "pet peeve." i read most of the threads because even some of the in-stuff and randomness is pretty funny. i made an earlier post about that. i think you interpreted this wrong...
Just to clarify, only my first paragraph was addressing your post.

tell me about it... I wish we could speak in real-time voices so people could actually get the inflection and whatnot... But I try to stay civil w/ my comments, so let's not make things personal. when people toss around the word "blame" I think ...

and that was more than a little pointed... um... you're right- i really DON'T care ... hence me not being the one who started this thread... i don't feel left out, either, i never said that, and I certainly DO include myself in the discussion... i made a facetious comment about being "cool," that was all. and who said anything about blame?? that was highly unnecessary...
Again, only my first paragraph was addressed to your post specifically. The rest was just to add to the discussion started by the OP.

*le sigh*
I do not have a high post count, and nor do I feel like I am part of the in-crowd, but these things do not bother me. The cliquey-ness does not bother me either.
In fact, because I am able to read all about the ins and outs of the 'in-crowds' daily lives and relationships to each other, I feel closer to them in a superficial way, like you would feel about your favorite celebrity. They may not know one thing about you but you know a lot about them.
It seems a bit like the people whom it bothers are upset because they are left out, and if they were 'in' then they would be happy.

Who thinks this board is really clicky?
I do.
I have been around for a while and I fully agree. Which might be why my post count isn't that high.
I don't care about the cliqueness ( although annoying) but when one member disagrees and flames a poster, then a bunch of other members jump on board and start changing their tune and overgeneralizing and assuming things and the flaming begins.
This board has helped me so much because I don't know a soul anywhere I work, so I search for answers here, and in my experience is has nothing to do with feeling left out. I prefer being a loner. What bug's is the "mob mentality" I hope this "cycle" dies down soon cuz it's lame!

Yea but dontcha agree that the tone of this site has changed dramatically since 2003 early 2004. (Which of course is understandable when you take into account how much the site has grown). In all honesty I can't stand half of the members who post here. Too many ass lickers, attention whores, ama-bad-bitch-wannabe, creeps....
We have had our share of cliques in the past but they are becoming juvenile and I hate having to see "OMG I love you love you love you" or "lemme suck your nip" posts in the middle of a thread which is sooo irrelevant to the topic at hand.
At the end of the day though I agree who gives a hoot. I just ignore it. It's the internet 'ain't that serious'
agree. i haven't been on since 2003 or 04', but I def. know what you mean! Usually when I am reading a thread that turns into a suck ass thread, I'm out .

^^^Yeah, same and I think thats why it is a shame - alot of people are probably doing that.
A few people have commented here and there that they dont even bother opening threads when they are posted by particular members too.
Ive been here a few years now andIve never noticed the clique stuff to this extreme before.
All of the "Youre so hot I wanna lick your butt crack and join in with all of this crap so people think Im hot and like me too" type stuff would be better over at myspace or somewhere where the rest of us who dont give a fuck dont have to waste our eyes and mouse fingers on it.
Maybe there should be a new section here "Arse-licking and name dropping" and it can just be full of threads about who thinks whos hot and who wants to do what to who and just names. Sounds good huh?!

notice how only the same people (mainly) are posting in this thread? yeah, it's already been discussed, but it's clearly an issue still. i have some specific examples that i dont even feel like wasting time pointing out, but they have happened AFTER the "what's in the water?" thread. it's just getting f'ing old, and obviously people don't care enough to fix it. and as for the pointless posts, yeah, we dont have to read them if it's an entire thread devoted to them, like a come to chat thread, but when they're all mixed in with regular threads that isnt fair. there usually is some good stuff in there, too, so we can either have to dig through the bs posts to get to that stuff, or ignore the good stuff altogether. ugh, just annoying, ya know?

I would see your point if people were posting the randomness in, say, Stripping General. But, isn't the Lounge supposed to be anything goes?
I mean, if you don't like the random, mundane, meaningless threads, then don't read them. If you're upset about people upping their post count, then maybe you could consider starting more random threads.
Personally, I enjoy some of the silly anctedotes from other people's lives, even if I don't respond. I love reading the more controversial threads and the thought provoking posts, even though I don't take time to jump into the discussion.
Who cares if it's cliquey? If you don't want to join in the discussion and you feel left out because of that, then there's only one person to blame...yourself.
I totally agree! I read on here more than anything dont post often and really if people dont like the way it is on here than simply dont sign on how hard is that? :O

Hmmm.
I always kind of liked about SW that it wasn't an impersonal, cold, omygosh lets analyze every single thing you say to the ground, don't you dare type a word off topic or make a friend kind of forum. I also wonder why a person can't compliment another person on here without it being "ass licking". What if you just notice something nice about them and want to make their day a little better by letting them know. I liked that this place was informative, and helpful, but could also be lighthearted and playful. But, I guess lets turn SW into every other internet forum where nobody spares an ounce of emotion for anyone else on there, and its all about typed words and facts. We could even take away the pink and just make it look like an encyclopedia, too.
ETA: Most of the random, irrelvant or off topic and fluffing posts are in Lounge - if you only want informative stuff - don't go in the lounge?
blayze
05-30-2007, 09:20 PM
however, the Lounge also has some informative posts about "off topic" things, recipes, advice, news, etc.
at the same time, just as the little header says, its supposed to be a relaxed atmosphere, where you are ALLOWED to stray off topic... not JUMP off topic. straying implies a gradual digression that is somewhat related to the original topic, most often than not, we are JUMPING off topic with titty licking comments (and believe me, i love licking titties!) or some other useless drivel.
i thnk the main concern is that rather than trying to have an uptight rigid emotionless unfriendly forum, we do need to have some flexibility as far as conversations go. at the same time we need to have some sort of happy medium where titties are licked in all the appropriate places! *grin*
PookaShell
05-30-2007, 09:29 PM
Well the "off topic" place, i.e., the Lounge isn't okay to be playful and friendly, so where would be appropriate?
I miss the old sw where people just relaxed.
jaizaine
05-30-2007, 09:33 PM
I think the lounge is appropriate. I think the comments esp Aussiepunkshockers were that people who aren't interested in those sort of posts don't bother looking at them. People can choose whether or not they click on a certain post. With those sort of posts it's usually pretty obvious what they are about so ignore them if u aren't interested.
LuckiCharm
05-30-2007, 10:02 PM
Just to clarify, I didn't mean I want SW to be emotionless and boring. I just meant it's annoying when a serious thread ends up being about licking eachother. I like that we can be ourselves here and compliment eachother, I didn't mean to piss anyone off. And you're right, the Lounge SHOULD be somewhere to post fun and even meaningless threads.
Paintbaby
05-30-2007, 10:59 PM
How about if those type of threads get a MUTUAL MASTURBATION EXTRAVAGANZA IN HERE!!! headline, or something similar, so the people that want to go in and play and flirt can do so, and those who don't can choose not to open the thread? Maybe we need a new smiley icon to tag those types of threads with. I vote for a smiley going down on another smiley, with other smilies looking on in approval. ;)
The cliques don't bother me, it's the thread derailing that occurs after a person makes a totally off topic comment to another person and then it just takes off back and forth, and the original idea is lost and the posters questions are not answered. How 'bout whenever a poster feels the need to compliment someone, they actually post something relevent to the thread in the post too. Then, threads could stay on topic.
^ That's a good idea, Fawn. ;)

Okay.. so let me get this straight...
People are not allowed to have personal relationships on here?
We're not allowed to form friendships?
If you don't like something, don't read it.
I made the 'whats in the water' thread because people were attacking each other and things were getting bitchy.
Just like this thread.
You know... i've been on here about two years... lurked for almost a year before that...
I've met so many people from here I can't even count. I've formed some wonderful friendships and have found this site to be amazing. Sometimes its that stupid little de-railing that helps you get to know a person. If you dont like it, skip it. Plain and simple.

Don't you fucking dare!!!
Who the hell cares about "cliques"? We like who we like and we meet who we wanna meet etc. I like everyone until they give me a reason not to and I have not one person on ignore.
Most people are guarded against new people anyway until they get to know them better. Newbies are always welcome to joke and talk with me. I also listen when they give me advice. Newbie only means new to SW, not to life.
And I don't see a pack mentality either. I do see a lot of women with similar thought patterns who happen to agree on certain subjects. We have so many other things in common, why not some of our views as well?
^Great post DylanAngel!!! ;D This is so true! Just cuz you're new to this site, it doesn't mean you don't know what the hell you're talking about when it comes to this business or to life in general. I've been a lurker on SW since August, and like I've said many, many times...have only became an "active member" this month. Like DA, I treat everybody on this site with respect...unless they give me a reason NOT to!
BTW, Dylan................................You Rock!!!! :iloveyou:

The thing that bothers me about this thread is that it lumps soooo many people together. I'd say stereotyping all of the high-post count and/or long time members is just as catty as clique-ishness. If you have a problem with an individual member, pm them. This thread is different than the "what's in the water" thread because its intent seems to be to stir up more trouble, and not to fix things like Cally's thread was.

... i think clique-y and catty are two different things. Cliques are natural. They are not necessarily a bad thing. I didn't mean to imply that they were, either... people bond over shared traits, time spent together, etc... it's a normal process. Catty is very different. Of course there will be cliques. That's ok, too. And I don't think anyone was lumping together those who have been here a long time... we are all very different, with different posting-styles, taking different actions in threads and such, so... but yes, it would be "catty," as in "bitchy" to whine as such. I know I made a few posts in this thread, I usually tend to stay out of stuff like this, but I wish people would re-read, and see that I noted that nothing was intensely bothersome to me, that clique-forming was a normal sociological process, that it helps to introduce/acquaint new members, and that I still enjoy even the silliness of some of our random stuff...

I have no problem with new members, I welcome them.
I know SW goes in 'cycles' and we get old members leaving, new ones coming consistently but this seriously is fucking retarded.
I have yet to ever be on a forum where threads don't get derailed... it happens, deal with it.
I just can't believe we actually have members sitting here telling us its wrong to become friends with eachother.
Really that is what your doing.
Honestly... im done. Fuck it.
Thanks for a great time everyone. Those of you i've befriended... you know how to get in touch with me.
Its been great :)
The rest of you.... I have nothing to say.
Also I am not looking for people to beg me to stay. I don't look for ego strokes. Chances are i'll be back when the stupidity ends but for the time being I dont want anything to do with the cattyness.
