View Full Version : Chivalry is dead? or is it?

The trick to parody is not to steal all the same expressions verbatim. "g-spot orgams swept over her," "play her body like a finely tuned instrument," "gasping for breath." It reads exactly what I would post about an actual experience, as I'm sure you know, although I think the idea that she responds this way simply by your holding the door open for her is funny as hell.
I'm glad you found it funny, it was really meant to be a joke. And to clarify--all joking aside--I don't doubt you are fully capable of putting your money where your mouth is, so to speak.
After all, you have the affections of the renowned Nicolina to back you up. Nothing more needs to be said in the way of establishing your credentials as a gentleman, and as a lover.
My intention was not to cast doubt upon your sexual prowess, but rather to parodize the way you write about it, which in retrospect might not have been the best thing to do. As far as 'stealing the expressions verbatim', I swear to you on my honor that I was writing off the cuff.
If you knew me well, you would know that at 3 PM, I am not capable of much more than "using what few memory cells and creative energy I have", lol! It's barely wake up time for me, I was really winging it and just trying to copy your style as a joke. I sure as shit didn't go look up any of your posts to get it down exactly, not at that hour--we vampires don't do such things that early.
But it seems the joke may have been inappropriate, and may have caused some offense. That'll teach me to try something like that at 3 PM.
Therefore, I am awarding myself points for insulting a member. And of all people to insult, intentionally or not, the primary source of financial backing for this site is the wrong one. You don't make dumb jokes about the host of the party, not if you are wise, and not if you are a gentleman--i.e., in the least bit chivalrous.
Moments later. Sorry, it won't work--apparently I can't point myself, lol. You'll have to take my word for it that I tried, twice. All I can do now, I suppose, is to invite you to parodize my innumerable vaunting posts about being an artistic SC DJ--something I confess I am having trouble with in my present circumstances, all previous bombast notwithstanding.

Awww! That was like, the nicest apology I've ever seen written on this board.
Only a true gentleman would try to award himself points. I say you guys should hug and make up. ;)

Y'all need to check yourselves with the Texas talk. I mean, I know you reside in unmockable states like Florida (more responsible than Texas for making Bush president!) and California (Nixon and Reagan!), but, still.
And Djoser, Texans use the term "Yankee" as the English and Canadians do, to indicate someone from the United States. As you know, Texas is its own county. :D
Just to clarify--what I said was this (italics added):
"I did notice a certain element amongst the diehard Texans who were way too macho and intolerant for my liking, but they were fortunately very much in the minority in that city. I have no idea how prevalent that type might be in the rest of the state.
One thing I was amused by was the perception in the minds of some Texans that everyone else from every other state in the Union were 'Yankees'."
I loved Austin, it was the best place I have lived, out of Michigan, Maine, Chicago, Florida, and a bit of Arizona. Not to mention this town I find myself in, which is a strange gateway to the Third World, as much as it is a part of the USA.
I liked by far the majority of Texans I met there. No offense to Texans intended.
And god knows I have no great esteem for the state of Florida, which is not my native state anyway. Just read almost any of my posts commenting about Daytona Beach, if you doubt me. I'm from Detroit, actually, which other than a lot of famous musicians (many of whom are possessed of dubious talent), hasn't produced much to be proud of lately, and is certainly not renowned for chivalrous behavior.
The comment about the rest of the Union being 'Yankee' is something I actually found to be amusing, and even charming when evidenced with style and humor, as it often was. I even spent a few hours talking to a very serious woman who tried to recruit me (believe it or not!) for an organization of Texans who still want to secede, after I expressed my deepest, profound admiration for the men who gave their lives at the Alamo. None of whom were natives of the state of Texas, since it didn't yet exist, but all of whom epitomized all that is admirable about it.
It was probably an honor in her mind to extend the invitation.
Are there macho assholes in Texas? Churlish louts who are walking mockeries all that is 'chivalrous'? Hell yes there are--as there are everywhere, Daytona Beach probably more than any ten cities put together. But there are certainly many gentlemen there as well, who are as chivalrous as any to be found in Maine, Michigan or Miami, lol!

I don't know about a hug, but I'd buy him a bottle of Dom Perignon the minute he walked into my club.

There's nothing wrong with treating a woman with honor, respect, etc. However, to rely on fairy tales for inspiration makes for a shaky relationship at best.
Agreed, but to rely on the relationship as inspiration for the fairy tales is often the exact, and more valuable, opposite. I feel, one who naturally inspires the typically manufactured is most cherished.
The first time I ever heard the expression "threesome" in Russian was in St. Petersburg.
I miss St. Pete. Only I'm talking about FL. :(
I'm sure you know, although I think the idea that she responds this way simply by your holding the door open for her is funny as hell.
Gotta admit. It was. :D

And for those of you who DON'T know, this feels EXACTLY like taking a bullet.
"Power goes to the ones who know power, Starscream. Desire alone is NOT enough."
--Megatron.
Mast has been exceedingly generous with me in the same fashion, but I seem to lack his finesse for humor and self-deprecation.
You sir, lack any need of tutelage that you, yourself, do not approve of. I appreciate the compliment. HOWEVER, my humor works only in the fact that, a lot of my personal satire is enjoyable by the group and myself if I single myself out. The intent here is to not accidentally step on any personal boundaries and ruin the night for someone. Much like a msg board, there's really no point in offering anything pointlessly negative, so I'm the guy who can take a joke. I've really come to realize that I enjoy the laughter of others, for some it's just a rare occurrence to just laugh, and it's my gift to offer it even in the most serious of scenarios.
He knows that the guys who treat women with respect end up with women who respect themselves. And that's a big part of why I love him.
Would you agree that there is a difference in the guy that is naturally respective to all those in his accompaniment, including you, however it's still different in regards to you? I mean, if he opens doors for every woman that comes into a restaurant, though is slightly, but PROFOUNDLY different, when he does it for you? Though it wouldn't appear so to onlookers?
My intention was not to cast doubt upon your sexual prowess, but rather to parodize the way you write about it, which in retrospect might not have been the best thing to do. As far as 'stealing the expressions verbatim', I swear to you on my honor that I was writing off the cuff.
...

And it was funny, The parody is funny, I mean, I tried to be offended by it, I did! But shit good humor is good humor! The imagery there was hysterical (I mean hell, I love to write that way as well so pointed at TheOtherOwner or not, it's still directed)
Thing about CO, TOO, and the like, is that they ARE who they ARE and parts of them which I aspire to be like, maybe I am, I don't know, but they've grown to accept who they are at their foundation, though loving and hating certain aspects of it, they are fully aware of what they have to offer and what they are capable of doing in reaction to getting what they want, and though they may wish it's more or less, they've accepted it as themselves and learn to enjoy life. Something to be admired.
Be it associated with Jedi's, Autobots, or Creatures of the night, I have no associations or pacts that would label any expectation of my actions.
And of all people to insult, intentionally or not, the primary source of financial backing for this site is the wrong one. You don't make dumb jokes about the host of the party, not if you are wise, and not if you are a gentleman--i.e., in the least bit chivalrous.
The one thing I admire about The Other Owner, is despite all his commentary or, well, anything, he's always easily approachable, and can, and WILL take a joke. So many people in his position can not, and it's a key to enjoying many parts of life.
something I confess I am having trouble with in my present circumstances, all previous bombast notwithstanding.
You've mentioned this quite a bit, and I've been curious, what's the deal? I assume it's been posted somewhere, but I haven't seen it. If it's none of my business please tell me to fuck off. I just know the feeling.

Djoser, why are you apologizing for your post? It was funny and satirical. And TOO, are you really offended? If everyone on this site quit apologizing for their honesty and trying to explain themselves, then there would be far less bickering going on....
And I'm not even going to start on the Texas naysayers. This place is both great and terrible at the same time, such is life.

The usual gigantic glass of wine I have after work always makes me very peaceful, as does just being finished with work, lol! Then I get all mellow and just want everyone to understand each other and be happy.
Mast I don't mind at all you asking about the job, but I have already posted a lot about it in the past few days--this isn't the place for it now.
And I'm not even going to start on the Texas naysayers. This place is both great and terrible at the same time, such is life.
That sums it up nicely.
Much as I loved Austin, and still miss many aspects of the city, I was ready to leave when I did. I just chose the worst possible place to move, LOLOLOLOL!! I think Key West might eventually turn out to be as nice in it's own way, though. At least it blows Daytona out of the water.

Maybe there is a slight difference, yes. But I thought it was just my ego allowing me to perceive the act differently.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to multiquote so here goes.
DJoser- I don't think I compared Texas to any other states. So I'll take your word for it about the rest of the country.
Yes, your right about the knight thing. I never really thought I'd be called out on that. I guess I should have said the code by which they were supposed to live by.
I guess your story could be funny, but as I don't know anything about it other than what you wrote I guess I missed the funnyness about it.
Madamemaxine- Cool stories.
Yekhefah- I don't know about your experiences and I'm sorry you didn't have a pleasant experience here. Having said that though you are way off about the Southern thing. Florida is the only other state that can rival Texas' reach into the South, however Florida is on the SE of the U.S. Texas is dead center at the very heart of the South of the U.S. I'm sorry, but if Texas isn't Southern... I must be an ijit. (No comment pls. lol.) Other states may try to claim Southern hospitality or dirty south, but they aren't the true south. Geographically speaking. Like Madamemaxine said, Don't talk mess about Texas. Just saying.
DJoser- Again. lol. I guess the Yankee thing is an Austin thing, because I've never heard that anywhere else here. lol.
Susan Wayward- You just made my Uber-cool people list.
Katrine- Yup, you nailed it. Texas is both great and terrible. I'm just saying don't ignore the great just cuz' of all the terrible.

I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying that Texas isn't Southern, but it's not. Yes, it is geographically along the southern border of the country, but so is Arizona and that's not Southern in the sense of Southern culture. Texas was not a Confederate state and while its culture is influenced by Southern culture, they have considerable differences. The Texans I know are in full agreement with me that Texas culture is in a category all its own, and it is not part of the South. (For the record, Florida isn't either.)
I don't deny that there are good things about Texas, mostly in Austin. I really enjoyed Austin and would like to go back again someday. And I'm sure there are admirable qualities to living in Texas, it just isn't for me. I'm sure life in Hollywood or Memphis isn't for everyone either; we've all got different tastes. That's what makes the world go 'round.

Texas was not a Confederate state
Um, yes it was. Texas seceded early in 1861, before Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. Tens of thousands of Texans served in the Confererate army.

D'oh, brainfart. I was thinking that Texas was still its own country at that time but I just did a quick Google search that proved you right. I apologize.
I still maintain that Texas has its own culture that is independent of Southern culture though.

I think a bunch of states have their own cultures - in some states (California, New York), they have a couple.
Texas is a Southern state with a distinctly Southern influence, but with a far greater level of Latin influence. It has its own culture, assuredly. You can tell Texas from Arkansas, for instance, a lot easier than you can tell Alabama from Mississippi.
Some of the culture comes from arrogance. For instance, Texas history classes are required in school (and not guaranteed to be 100% accurate). Texas barbecue is the best (but I've had other barbecue!).
And Texas is a republic of its own. Uh-huh. Hot off the press: Federal law trumps Texas law. (Just don't tell the Texans. There's a certain level of comfort in arrogance.)
Now, all that is said in friendship. I like Texas. Mostly. Surely, "Don't Mess With Texas" doesn't mean that you forfeit your humor.
And my new Escalade has a sticker on the latch side of the front door that says "Built With Pride-Arlington Assembly". I think it's pretty cool that they would offer the patriotic reminder.

I didnt read all the answers but I personally do not think it's dead. My man is very chivalrous, as have been most of my boyfriends. And not just to me, to you know look good, but I see them doing it when they dont know I'm watching. it's cute. one thing I missed out on was back in the day when a lady walked in the room and all the men stood. I wouldnt mind having that happen again, then again I'm usually just one of the guys so I doubt anyone would stand for me even if it was still a norm.
The best/most chivalrous guys are Marines (not all!! but many) and those Southern (TX) cowboy gentlemen can be totally chivalrous as well... and oh so sexy!! mamas dun raised them boys right!

Kat, I'm sure you know that I'm nearly impossible to offend. It was mostly a literary comment more than anything else. :) And I did say I found it funny as hell.
Can you believe I just now hit 1,000 posts? I'm a huge believer in reading more than posting, but that's beyond ridiculous -- I'm almost invisible!

I don't think it's a personal thing, but here in the USA a guy will occasionally experience the radical feminist who gets downright pissed off over something like opening a door, and slightly more frequently (but not commonly) women that don't care either way. Chivalry is not dead, but personally I find myself reserving it for those who appreciate it. Sort of the not casting one's pearls to the swines mentality. I guess I'm the pessimist, but I while I don't expect much in return, I also don't see much point in acting chivalrous to those who don't appreciate it or downright see it as an insult. It's so hard to know who is going to be offended by what these days that the safe road is treat those you don't know as neutral, and reserve the kind loving treatment for those who really appreciate it.
p.s. I totally do the chivalry thing for my S.O. - she appreciates it so it comes naturally. Just a warm heartfelt smile and us guys will do all kinds of stupid shit ;)
