Well for me since it's the topic and all tomorrow is 20 years for me and the wife . I can't believe we have been together so long . It's great when you meet as young adults and age together and still are able to stand one another LOL . She is quite the woman I trully cherish her . I married her when I was 22yrs old . ;D

True, and even better still when you actually like and love them after all that time ;)

^^^ LOL, sorta my thinking too!
I'll be 28 this summer, so I guess it's just that time when everyone starts settling down. But even my father, who lives with his parents and hasn't been on a date in over 15 years, is suddenly head over heels in love with a new girlfriend and I imagine I'll have a stepmother before too much longer. And several of my friends are engaged to guys they only met a few months ago. I guess love is in the air or something.

I was gonna guess you'd say 28! That's the age that I noticed it started happening too.
^^^NO WAY!!! Not me! I'm 28 and I don't even want to be in a relationship right now! I'm sure I will want to get married again some day...but I've just got too many things going on right now. I'm working, going to school, planning vacations, trying to save money and get rid of debt...just like what Yek said earlier about the whole debt thing. I'm trying to "cleanse" my life right now and focus on my own well-being. I have enough on my plate.

Engagement is the new going steady. When done so quickly, it's just a bunch of emotional indulgence. It's a beautiful fantasy, but all too often rotten once the infatuation stage wears off. It's all about the fairytale wedding hype, not the fact that you'll be with this person for a very long time.

There have been some studies that show that overall men seem to do better married in terms of taking care of their own health, success at work, life span, overall sense of happiness. But of course it's a gamble. You're gambling that your partner has the right set of personality characteristics to stay in a long term relationship, and you are gambling you do too (most people think they do of course, but likewise many are not fully aware that they have their own issues that cause relationships to fail). On top of all that sometimes life throws curve balls, and too much bad luck can tear people apart. And you do give up freedoms to pursue relationships with others, and men at least (I'm guessing women too) go through periods in long term relationships where they start wondering if they wouldn't be happier with something new. All that aside though, there is something very positive about going through life with someone you trust and think about almost like an extension of yourself; the boundaries between you blur; you are there for each other through the good and bad; you always have someone you can talk too; someone who you have a lifetime of memories with; and if you have children, you share many years of memories and experiences that are especially unique. It's really hard to weigh what is gained against freedoms lost. I can't say it's for everyone, but I can say it's not all bad, and most of the time it's very good, but it's not for everyone.

Yekhefah, will you marry me? I don't eat much, and i sleep well on couches.
Marry me, I'll watch you eat steaks and smoke ganj on my behalf. (Madcap eats all the food I cannot because I have to stay skinny for work.)

Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are likewise long-term partners who aren't married. They've been together at least 10 years.
