sorry little thread jack but thank you for this link that was intersteing. I know I will be still thoughly checking my kids candy out of habit and tradition but thats neat to know. :)

My parents always checked my candy. Strangely all the 'suspicious' looking candy was chocolate.;)

I remember when 'civilain women' didn't dress like strippers.
I remember being embarssed to be seen walking into any stripclub I worked in.
It was just 3 1/2 years ago when I lived in San Francisco (grunge is still in there) and all the dancers would dress in drab colors and layers when they went to work. They would transform once in the club. Not outside the club.

How about making one's own Halloween costumes with creativity and imagination, rather than purchasing a child-sized replica of a movie character's wardrobe for $59.99?

I remember the year I was an Egyptian... cut neck and arm holes in a pillowcase and drew heiroglyphics around the bottom with a paint pen, and let my mom put a bunch of eyeliner on me. It was much cooler AND cheaper than wearing the exact same store-bought costume as every other kid in class!

I was a pony! My tail was a plastic cup with a hole cut in it to put 40 strands of yarn through and my ears were a plastic headband and foam cutouts! :D

I was Little Red Riding Hood one year when I was about eight. Halloween dawned a balmy 10 degrees or so, so my parents scrapped the little nylon costume they had bought me and I was Little Red Riding Hood in a red snowsuit carrying a basket.
