How can we benefit from this?

I just caught up on this thread...CONGRATULATIONS. I see those pictures and it is really taking me back. I still remember things so vividly.

I took my son out the last couples days and started teaching him to drive. Hard to believe it has been 15 years already. The time passes so fast and now he is becoming a little man. Cherish every moment of it.

I am feeling kind of mushy right now....

Well it's a rich source of nutrients. I think there is actually recipes for it, however animals do it because it's unparalleled in it's health benefits as a food item.

And to expand on that, I think it's primarily the iron content that makes it so important for animals, due to the blood loss that can occur for the mother. Makes a lot of sense. I don't know that I'll be following this tradition, necessarily, though it's tempting to see if it might make for the perfect Secret Ingredient in a chili cookoff . . . I may just plant a tree with it instead.

This makes me wonder philosophically, though. Would this be considered a "meat" product? Obviously it's technically an animal product, so vegans probably wouldn't eat it (even if it were given consensually), but since the animal didn't have to die for it to be procured, would this be more along the lines of milk or eggs? Could a vegetarian chow down on some Ultimate Placenta Chili?

These are the things that keep me up at night. </grossest threadjack ever>

P.S. MORE ADORABLE PICS, Alexxa!!!

Alexxa, I've been reading this thread for like 2 days now, and was trying really hard to come up with something original but can't cuz...

omg-congratulations-yr pics make me cry too-i don't know you but think of you-can't wait for more! I think it's so cute how you guys did that with the placenta, altho I realize it's prob a bit more than "cute" more like meaningful, special, etc. but I can't help but get a funny image in my mind of when she's 15 and a mega brat and you yelliing "All I've done for you!!!! We even ate yr placenta!!!" If my mom ever said that I think I'd listen.

^^ Hmm I wonder the same thing now that you mention it, about being it being vegan...I guess it's not along the same lines of milk or eggs either, since no one was tortured, and I don't think humans would go around eating other humans' placentas...that would be cannibalistic, yo...but thanks for making me think!

Holy crap - 11 pages! I feel so loved. EXTREMELY tired, but loved. hehe

Yes, the post in LO actually did inspire me a little. Jess already knew he wanted to eat the placenta but once I read that it helps with postpartum hormones, I wanted to at least try it. I have had some clinically depressive episodes at various times in my life and wanted to prevent that as much as possible. So far, so good. Kembra is such a little doll that I can't imagine being that upset about anything ever again. I just can't wait til she starts sleeping through the night!!

My usual SW addiction isn't being fed these days...that's probably the worst thing I can think of. I'm also a little delerious (sp?) because she only sleeps for 2 -4 hours at a time and eating for most of the rest of it, leaving me with not much time to do anything. Checking my internet stuff is a luxury. I am just so in love with her though it doesn't matter. I realize how lucky I am and have no room to complain.

When I catch up on my rest, I'll try to post some more pics for everyone. Thank you all again for being so supportive and interested.
