Marijauna is not good for you. Any "benefits" are simply justifications made by chronic abusers to more readily attain there drug.

Sterilize her and adopt that child into a loving home that will care for him.
Thats crazy talk. Its a FACT that marijuana has medicinal uses for some people. Thats why some people have prescriptions. Sterilize her ? Move the child into a strangers home? That's radical and ridiculous in my opinion. Break up a family because a frazzled mom had a hit of pot? That's insane. Someone sounds like they could use a hit of pot !

^ well said.
my opinion is that it's not a huge deal. now if she had been on a heavier drug, or even more of the one drug she was on, then i think i'd have a different opinion. but i do think that sometimes calming down with a single hit can do wonders for a soul. i rarely even smoke anymore, and used to be quite the pothead, and for that reason i have a half-smoked joint in the car, still! i found it in there, where it was from when cally(ish) visited philly, and sitll haven't removed it. so i can understand how an occasional smoker might have a little something in the car, leftover from a day at the park or whatever.
as for the action, i think getting on the child's level with utmost patience is seriously amazing. however someone does it, i think that does do wonders for a child's self esteem, and allows the kid to be creative.
i wish my mother took a hit of pot when i was a teenager; she was a seriously anxiety-ridden, stressed out mess. we had so many fights because she couldn't chill and be calm. my father was always level-headed and therefore he rationally was able to deal with me. that's my :twocents:

I see a lot of people writing about being on prescription drugs for anxiety and such, and it's the same as hitting one. Well, if you have a legit chemical imbalance and need medication to correct itself, then I don't see a problem with meds. I think if we would learn to take that deep and listen to how we sound, maybe we could change our attitudes about kids without outside self medication. I have ADD, and I'm on prescript meds, am I allowed kids? I should hope so because I have 2. I think if someone needs soemthing to cope with kids, they should talk to someone when it gets that bad. I have vented before that I needed some time to myself when I've worked so much, and then my kids are crying the whole day and there's nothing I can do about it. Or. constant trips to the hospital with both of them. One complaining they're bored, and the other screaming because they're hooked up to IV tubes, breathing tubes and being probed every 5 minutes. You get taxed. And sometimes you forget they're kids because we have been so used to people our age, or at least the age of understanding.
I don't know, what I do think though, is that if you're having a hard time dealing with your kids, talk to a professional about it, they can help you. They're going to be much nicer to you when you ask for help than when you get caught "helping" yourself with drugs. And if your life is too stressful and you're taking it out on your kids, time to re-evaluate what's going on.

I'm not saying all mothers should start getting high, but really, what is the big deal? People are talking about calling CPS ? What if she *gasp* had a glass of wine? What's the difference? That pot is illegal ? It's not like she's doing meth or she's wasted driving around with her kid or soing it in front of them . I know lots of parents who have a couple drinks around the youngsters and they are all great parents. Nobody is calling CPS on Dad when he drinks a six pack at the BBQ.

o no, dont get me wrong, i'm not saying that people shouldn't be taking meds when they need them (although i do know how they affect me, and i do need them at times... but they are way more of a sedative than one quick toke, and the behavior isn't curbed half as well) but also, considering someone's prior post "if you have to bed medicated or drugged to do a job then you shouldn't be doing that job" would that same philosophy not apply to life in general as well? if you HAVE to have drugs in order to cope with your life... then maybe you shouldn't be living? again, i'm not saying that i agree with the prior statement in the slightest, just pointing out that different people use different methods of dealing with different things. whether those "things" be stress invoked through work, family, friends, bills, etc. we all have different coping mechanisms.
we're going from one extreme to the other, saying that some rules apply to certain situations, comparing situations that are incomparable, and using different scenarios to justify different points, when the truth of the matter is, we can't do anything about this PARTICULAR situation, and obviously her literary style was not intended to be ripped apart and used for or against drug use justification. i think had she known that here writing would be scrutinized in such a manner, she probably would have chosen her words much more carefully.
obviously her saying that she usually "drags" her child around while she's shopping, doesn't mean she's dragging him around like a trash bag or anything... just that she's leading him around probably with him trailing behind her, throwing the occasional fit or doddling or some other childish behavior. kids do that. and parents often "drag" their kids places. how else would parents get anything done?! mommy has things to do, kids are going to be in tow. and after a long day of running errands, with jr screaming about wanting this or that, needing to go potty every 10 minutes, wanting a drink, being bored, etc... a mother's going to be frazzled. personally, i'd rather my mom had taken a hit (or two!) of green while i was growing up.
you see parents all the time that simply do not have patience whatsoever after a certain point. they start yelling at their kids for the littlest things. i understand this, i've raised two girls who are curious about everything, i've gotten to that point where i just wish they really would take them away, and let someone else deal with them! (momentary feelings of helplessness and a lack of any sort of support will make you feel like this, i'm not saying that i really want my sisters taken away) taking a hit would have been really helpful to me in those situations, then again, it doesnt make me sleepy or incoherent as it does to some.
and not doing it just because its illegal is in my opinion, not a good enough reason. people have used marijuana for centuries for various purposes, and just in the past several decades its been illegal. that to me is like saying, you can't drink peppermint tea to calm your upset stomach because the gov says so. fuck the government. they are the ones saying its ok to dispense and over prescribe medications left and right that are often unnatural and have horrible llong lasting side effects, but its not ok to use a naturally growing herb? thats just stupid.
interesting note- i'm not sure if its nationwide or not, but i know ks has a marijuana tax! if you're caught with over 2 Os and they dont have tax stamps on them (similar to the ones on cigarettes) you get busted not only possesion with intent to sell but tax evasion as well. i thought that was a load of crap!
