I hear alpha chick or alpha female and i think about whatever that article was years ago, about high school dynamics, and the alpha girls being the popular bitches, followed by the betas, who were followers, and the cappas being every other girl who didnt fit in and were tortured for it.

Proof that I read too many magazines.

Yes, I meant FemDom attire. That's what an alpha female is in my opinion, and also by definition. One who is dominant over others!
Lesbians can either be Dom or sub. They are not always "alpha".

Or they can exist without dychotomous power structures. Not to derail things...

Dominants can also exist without the popular attire...just sayin'.

I am AWFULL at giving advice. I'm actually starting to like Alpha Female Fashion, after first being skeptical. I hope you name it whatever you like Dottie Rebel. I can't imagine many people thinking Starbucks was the greatest name when they first heard it.

Dont forget to announce when your store opens. I love used/vintage clothing!

Well I see you've named it, so I wish you lots of luck with your sales and enjoy having your own business :D

I ended up choosing something entirely unrelated that sounds more high fashion, IMO.

I set up my store yesterday. I've got a photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow then I'll begin listing the items. I've got over 50 items, so it'll be a chore, but should take no longer than a couple of days. I can't wait to debut it!

And yes, NinaD, I'll do a bulk discount just for you. Buy 10 pairs of high-waisted jeans and I'll throw in a free fanny pack ;)

Congrats! Would I be pushing my luck if I asked you to toss in a free scrunchie too? :P

I'm so excited about this. I never buy clothes, cause I never know what to buy plus I'd have to get rid of something if I got something. But I totally have an excuse now because I sat in blueberry bushes and ruined a pair of pants, and I have this weirdly supersititious idea that you will tell me what to wear and it will be perfect.

I know that I'm late on this thread but I thought I'd chime in. "Alpha" anything (though I did like female over chick) makes me think of a) something sold at rock/metal/goth subculture stores, and/or b) Dominatrix wear. Seriously. Dominant, forceful, RAWR, in your face sorta stuff.

I know I know... no longer relevant.

Aw...Nina and Lena! You guys are great. Hopefully I can get to know both of your styles and find perfect stuff for you!

Thanks for the responses so far! I'm actually leaning away from Alpha Female now, cause sxybrat's impression was one of my fears--the whole power lesbian thing, unfeminine, corporate ladder climber, sensible shoes, etc. It's actually quite the opposite of that.

So what I'm doing is opening an ebay store much like this one: http://stores.ebay.com/Mels-Shoppe-Vintage. I plan to sell mainly vintage clothing from the 60s, 70s, and (mostly) 80s with catch words such as egdy, scene, hipster, new wave, 80's, boho, etc. As well as really cool, select new items, designer finds, etc.

I want a name that conveys that the clothes are for cool, edgy and fashion-forward chicks. I thought Alpha Female might fit because most of the clothes are for young women who aren't afraid to make bold fashion statements (we're talking high-waisted 80's zipper jeans and metallic batwing sleeve dresses) but I don't think it quite gets that across.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hey girl! I've been a vintage clothing dealer for 7 years sell on EBay a lot. If you ever have any questions just holler. ;D ;D

I wouldn't go with Alpha Female Fashions.... I'd shorten it down to Alpha Femme. Alpha makes it sound empowering, but Femme makes it sound exotic in an uber girly French fantasy way.

Good luck with your new venture!

How about Alpha Femme or Alpha Femme Fashion ?
I like the name but, to be honest with you, when I read the title
I thought this would be a thread about the way lesbians dress ..

Yes! My I agree with the first. ;D
