^^ So many things are deemed as "safe" and only years later it comes out that they are, in fact, very harmful. There's just no way to know for sure.
Take Depo Provera, the birth control shot. I was on it 8 years, and they told me all along it was completly safe. When I get off it I find out it causes bone density loss. I had a bone scan, and I am borderline osteoporosis. At 26.
Even smoking was thought to be safe at one point.
That reminds me. I need to get tested. I was on Depo for 6 years. My shot "ran out" (I was due for another one) in Nov. last year. I finally got my period back on the Blood Moon recently other than it had been spotting. I wonder if I too have any side effects.
As for sun beds. I used to do it too at one point. Then I stopped when I started getting strange white spores on me (i think that's what they were). They're gone for good now and only happened when I was using a solarium.
Not to mention I swear I grew more freckles all over my body due to it.
So now I just expose myself to the sun in a safe way for 15 mins per day (or try to at least).
i also use fake taner yet not religiously... very on/off. I also wonder if that is doing my body any harm as well as the sunscreen I use to "protect" myself.

Because...our strip club customers get the same media images of idealized beauty as yours.
Worse in Australia where "an aussie shelia" is generally depicted as slender, blonde hair, tanned and has a nice boobs. That's the stereotype here.
Yet even with my natural olive skin (thanks to my mother's father being macedonian) I don't tan much. I feel pale right now (even tho' i'm far from being white due to the olive skin) yet at the same time.. I just don't trust the sun here too much and now least of all the solariums.

That's pretty much the stereotype everywhere of what strippers should look like. Except maybe, like, Russia. And I still bet the blondes make more money there.

I wasn't speaking about strippers Lysondra. I was speaking about the "stereotypical aussie shelia" so that image extends beyond our industry. Just have a look at any movie or tv show that wants to depict an "aussie chick"... the chick is white, blonde, slender, tanned and has nice boobs.

I don't know, it just seems like that's the stereotype in many places though. I know those are the girls in the Canadian beer commercials. Even the ones with the snowy mountains, or the moose in the lake...the tacky stereotype stuff-- all the girls are tanned within an inch of their lives.
If anything, I would think tanning beds in Ottawa are almost more popular, considering 10 months of the year you can't tan any other way. But I'm just guessing about that.

Wow. That is totally sad. And so strange because she appeared so healthy in the video, 'cept for the tube thingy....
I liked her commentary on "being brave." She says she just says what she feels, and what's right. It's totally true that people put so much emphasis on how "brave" sick ppl are, but it's usually to make themselves feel better about it.
My sister was in a wheelchair from 7-13 and then had brain surgery...everyone was always saying how "brave" she was and how "brave" my mother was for dealing with it....it's not about bravery, just ...you know, living your life, gotta adapt...
But it is VERY awesome that she was so outspoken about it, I could see some ppl feeling embarrased by it. So that part is 'brave'...or so it seems, who knows...depsite embarrassment, there's nothing you can do about it...so go out and educate...yea.

Im the same way Cameron... I am constantly told I look sick if im not tanned. Fake Bakes don't work for me... they look nasty icky on me.
I figure im a smoker so I might as well tan as well lol. *stacks up her increasing risks of cancer*
Same here sista!
I figure I have fought and beaten death twice now, so all this is extra. Also we will ALL die eventually, and stress (no matter what ANYONE says) is the REAL killer. And I would venture to say over 60% of us will die of some form of cancer.
