Dear Cameron,
I recently had to go home for a death in my family and had to take my dog to my mother-in-laws to stay. When I got back home I noticed that my dog is bitting herself very badly. I have gotten 3 fleas off of her today. The problem is my dog is allergic to flea medication. What can I use on her to get the fleas off? I have had her for 5 years now with no flea problems before.

Well first i would call the vet to see if s/he has any recommendations...your vet will know her history better. You can get brewers yeast from the vet to add to her food thats makes them taste bad to fleas. But that will take awhile to see any affect.

Is she allergic to flea shampoo too? Can your vet give her allergy meds so you can at least bathe her and kill the fleas?

If shes been in your house for a day opr two...get out and bomb the house. Its the fastest most effective way to kill the population.

Dear Cameron,

My whole life I've been naturally good at things (school, piano, etc). My mother always said that I did really well at things until they got challenging for me, then I'd drop them. (which is mainly true). Lately I've been dealing with really difficult assignments in school and I feel like dropping everything and saying screw it. I finally realized that I do this because I'm scared to death of failing. Like, if I don't put any effort into it and I do bad, then I can blame it on the fact that I didn't care. If I do and I fail...then what? Then it's just proof that I'm not smart enough/good enough or whatever, and it's my fault I failed.

I really need to get past this, as my classes are going to suffer, and I really WANT to finish school and get a degree...but I'm scared to death of not getting into my major and getting good grades. What do I do?

Well...if not getting into your major and getting good grades is what you are afraid of....you need to push through and bust your ass to get it. Otherwise, you WILL fail and it will be a self fulfilling prophecy. You cant get what you want if you dont try. And at the very least....if it doesnt happen, you can hold your head up knowing you did your very best and it just wasnt meant to be...

Dear Cameron,

I need to get a job ( a regular one) and I plan on going tomorrow to apply at a department store. I have a couple years worth of customer service and cashiering skills, yet I haven't ever been able to get a job like in Kohl's, Mervyn's, etc. I am going to go apply to Mervyn's tomorrow. Assuming they call me back for an interview, what are some good interview tips?

Also, I have had some health issues in the past, and couple that with me being young and a bit flaky, my past experience makes me look like a job hopper. Many times I left without 2 weeks notice. How do I make it clear I'm serious in working, and that i'm past that? I try to be professional in interviews and explain myself, but if they look at my string of odd jobs that I never held for long they won't be impressed.

There are a lot of great tips here:
'

As for the job hopping thing. You are young and a bit of that is to be expected. If they were in differant cities...explain the you and your husband traveled around quite a bit until you fell in love with(insert whatever area you are in now). And now you are excited about settling down here and planning a future.
That makes you look good...you'e gotten your wanderlust out of the way and you are implying that you will be starting a family which will make it even more likely that you will stay put. But you arent saying that you want kids NOW so they arent worried about you leaving right away on maternity leave.

Good luck!

Dear Cameron-

My 'check engine' light has been coming on and going off for the past few weeks. First it was after I filled up, and I know if the gas cap is on wrong that can happen-and it went off after I adjusted the cap. Now it is on again, and staying on. What does this mean? I've actually had almost zero problems with this car in the 3-4 years I've had it, other than normal stuff like a flat tire. Is this dangerous? I have almost zero time to take off class and go to the shop, but I will if it's that bad.

Cam,
Peanut's tests all came back Negative. Bartonella, FIV, Felv..everythign was negative.

She is assumed to have some autoimmune disease. Do you have any idea what other autoimmune diseases cats cat get?

Her test results said:
Severe anemia
Blood in urine
toxic white blood cells
malnutrition

Plus, of course, she has the stomatitis.

I can't remember what else the tests said.

The vets plan of action:
Monthly steriods shots, montly iron shots
Antibiotics. Basicially, she gives us a new antibioptic every month to try. We are just going down the list, trying stuff out, hopefully finding one that kills whatever infection she has.
She has been on Baytril, Zithromax and clindamycin. Next up is Flagyl.
We stagger the antibiotics...so if she is on 10 days of Zithromax, on day 5 we start clin, which goes on for 5 days...this way, the drugs are in her system seperate, and together, so we can moniter her and see if we notice an improvment using one or both....trying to find out what works.

So do you know what diseases she coudl have? Any ideas?

Also, do you know abotu using Chemo drugs for cats, in place of the steriod. Porbably, she will not be able o use steriods for life, so when the time comes, the vet recommends she switch to chemo drugs. Do you know the side effects of this, and if it's a good thing to use?
thanks

Well..check engine can mean anything. There could be a problem....your car could need an oil change..anything. So I'm sorry i cant really help much...you would have to have someone take a look.

Check your fluid levels first...check the oil level first, then the transmission fluid. If you dont know how..most gas stations will help you. If that checks out ok...you'll need to have a pro go over it.

Well..theres also Feline Herpes (aka Rhinotracheitis) or Calicivirus(which I think you said she was already tested for?)

There is a great account here of a cat that had stomatits and herpes and what was done to treat:

Maybe you will get some answers through what worked for them...seems to mirror your cats case pretty closely

As for chemo...happily, cats handle this much better then humans usually. The vast majority (95%) of cats that get chemo experience no (or only very mild) side effects; the most common side effect is that the cat's whiskers fall out. They may have a loss of appetite for several days after treatment.
Some other side effects:

Steroids can be used long term depending on the animal. My parents dog was on Prednisone for most of the last half of his life with little side effects. ANd he lived to a ripe old age of 16.

Has she been tested for Herpes? The syptoms do point to it. But the symptoms are so vague that it is almost impossible to diagnose over the internet(not that I would ever....I'm not even close to being qualified for diagnosing)

Good luck with her and I'm so happy for you that you have a vet that appears to know what she is doing. Sometimes all you can do is treat the symptoms....even in humans some things are a mystery.

Dear Cameron,

I'm ready for a change and want to move from Nashville to New York. I tried VA and it was nice but you really need a car to get around there. Although I haven't been to NY since I was 9 so I don't know my way or have any friends there. I don't have any friends here to go with me to for at least a visit first but they're always broke..LOL..Seriously..I was advised against moving to NY and traveling to NY alone. But me being the woman I am, I wanna go anyway. Any advice or tips you could offer?

YOu dont know anyone anywhere that would pop up with you for a weekend?

If you are a strong woman and not easily intimidated...you can make a go of it in NY. Go. Stay somwhere safe and explore. See if you like it, See if you feel comfortable there alone.

Theres only one way to find out....

Dear Cameron,

I have always been intriguied by the possibility of alien life.

What do you think are the possibilities of alien life being incontrievably discovered in the next 10 years?

(By incontrievably discovered I mean by clear, verifiable and repeatable radio signals from another solar system, etc).

If alien life is discovered (and announced as such by authorities such as the US president and the UK Prime Minister), how will we react pyschologically and how would you recommend we deal with the knowledge that other forms of life exist?

Well...personally I hold out hope we WILL find alien life. I would really hate to think that humans are the be all and end all of inelligent life in the universe. There has GOT to be more out there.

Whether we will find it in 10 years...I highly doubt it. I doubt we will find proof in our lifetime.

When we do though...I believe it will be covered up and mismanaged to death until it leaks and causes a wordwide panic. Just becuase that is how major governments usually deal with the unknown.

Cameron, to quote the great George Carlin:

"If we are the only intelligent life in the universe, then the universe aimed low and settled for little."

That may come off a little harsh, but my faith in humanity's a little thin right now. You, however, are a walking definition of 'awesome'. So it def. doesn't apply to you :)

Might not happen in the next ten years, Cam, but i would keep that bet money about it happening in your lifetime and buy yourself some shoes with it.

Won't be saying "nanoo nanoo" but really any living thing, from a single celled organism on up would be the single most crushing discovery in history... and there's a real shot it's in our own backyard.

Life on earth needs two things to thrive: Heat and water. That's it. Europa (And Ganyemede & Callisto for that matter) have both in spades. ;)

Actually, I do worry a little about the pyschological consequences of making contact with intelligent life (as opposed to discovering bacteria, etc, on Europa).

There are quite a few indications that our reaction might be xenophobic. Famously, Orson Wells's War of the Worlds broadcast caused panic in the US in 1936.

What's less known is that it's happened quite often since, for example in the US in 1974 in Providence, Rhode Island, and in Portugal in 1988.

I'm also worried by the 'alien abductee' stories. Now, I don't believe that we've been visited by other civilisations, but a lot of these stories have a theme of either:

a) I had a mnd control pellet implanted in me.
b) I was examined/abused sexually.

Which suggests there is a lot of subconsious fear about meeting another civilisation.

Phil.

I think there is a lot of fear of the unknown period. Since we have no idea what or who if anything is out there...many people's minds run towards the paranoid and assume that IF intellegent life makes contact, it will be with malicious intent.

I think if it does happen....people will run the gamut of paranoid end-of-the-world terror and welcoming with open arms what they believe will be mankinds saviors.

And everything in between.

I can just hopw that if ther eis intellegent life out there...it knows how fragile and volitile life forms on this planet can be before it makes contact.

Dear Cameron,

I am really debating on whether or not to file a police report on thievy girl. I'm just scared my parents would see it and find out it happened at a strip club when I shouldn't have been dancing and they would disown me.

On the other hand, I know future employers would not look positively at someone whos' records shown they have committed theft. Is it possible for my parents to find out where this happened, or am I just being paranoid.

Talk to the cops and ask if you can file an anonomous report.

Even if you cant ...file a report. The chances your parents will find out is slim to none...its a small crime and not likely to hit the papers or anything.

If they do..say you have a friend that works there and you were hanging out saying hi to her when this happened. "Oh..they said I was a stripper..geez...papers say anything to sell dont they?"

Get your shit back girl. DONT let her get away with it. And do it NOW...the longer you wait the less the cops will take you seriously

I figured I could post this here as well.....

I think I know what the best thing to do here is but other advice is welcomed and appreciated. I live with my grandmother. I go to cosmetology school full-time. I had to take a personal leave because I had mono twice this year and recovery has been a bitch. I also have orthostatic hypotension. I know my immune system is weak. I have been to a specialist but still struggle to function like a normal, healthy 29 year old woman. I don't have insurance or a job. I quit dancing spring 2006 mainly because my husband and I split and thought it would be beneficial for my mental well-being to get away from the club and dancing.

I don't have many expenses. I have a lot of medical debt I am slowly paying. My grandmother has helped me tremendously financially. My dog has been really sick lately so her medical bills are accruing. I need to go back to work basically. I won't be able to work during the day while I have school. I start back school in about a week. School hours are 9-4 Tuesday though Friday and 8:30 to 3:30 on Saturday. I live about an hour from the school with traffic and all. When I get home from school I am usually exhausted.

You have to have 400 hours of schooling before you can start practicing on the public downstairs. We are allowed to receive tips for our work. I understand it will be approximately 100 bucks a week. I'll be able to start practicing downstairs mid January. I won't be able to live off that obviously but every little bit counts.

My grandmother's children (my aunts) are all up in her business. I suppose they should be to certain extent but I live in a small town and everybody is in everybody's business if you know what I mean. My grandmother isn't poor but she isn't wealthy either. I greatly appeciate all she has done for me and do my best to make sure she gets where she needs to go and keep her home clean. My aunts are very jealous and feel as though I take advantage of my grandmother. My grandmother won't let them say anything to me about it. But she tells me what they think. My grandmother is really up in my business to the point she keeps up with my periods but I suppose with the way she helps I shouldn't say anything about it.

The solution is I need to support myself and get a place. I think I should dance on the weekends. I feel I need to be here with her to one extent but all the nosyness and gossip is eatting me alive. If my grandmother gets to the point at which she can no longer care for herself I will take care of her. Until then my relatives live close by and they do check in on her. I could stay here and dance. She knows I danced. She doesn't agree with it but agrees it would give me more money for working less hours. What do you think?

If you want to dance, need to dance and your grandmother knows and accepts it...it seems to be a no-brainer. If the rest of your family speaks up..be firm and tell them that you did not ask nor need their opinion on the matter and that if they have nothing supportiv eto contribute...say nothing.

They are pissed at you anyway...why would you not do something just to appease them? If anything..this would prove them WRONG. Since if you were just mooching off your grandmother...why would you work at all?

yesterday, I accepted a nanny job. I'm scheduled to work tomorrow and wed. this week. However, I have an interview for tomorrow that sounds very promising. The family is offering more $$, and their doughter is the exact age I'd most like to work with. The woman for tomorrow knows I already accepted a position, but wants me anyways! lol. she lives in a very fancy neighborhood and has beach access and a pool. The woman I've been hired by lives in an appt. I'd be cooking for "new lady" which I really love to do, and acting more of a mother's helper then like a nanny, which sounds good. , and on top of more $$ ( 12$ an hour vs. 10$)she'd also give me a weekly gas allowence.

assuming i like her and get hired, how do i tell the woman i've made a commitment to that I want to work for someone else. (i'd work the 2 days I'm already scheduled for, of course, assuming she still wanted me to).

I kinda feel like a jack ass, but I'm obviously wanting to do what's best for me. my issue is how do i tell this other lady I'm backing out?

Well..I agree you have to do whats best for you. I spent way to much time in my life giving up opportunities because I felt obligated to someone else.

You have very little invested in the job you already accepted(aka..the child hasnt bonded to you yet and you havent made yourself invaluable to the family..) so losing you wont be more then an inconvenience.

Dont say anything until you are SURE you have the other job. If you get the job you want...just tell your current employer that you are very sorry, but an opportunity you did not expect came along and you cant give it up. that you would not have accepted this position had you known this opportunity would come along...but fate had other plans and you are willing to help out however you can until she can hire someone else.

Dear Cameron,

This is a great thread idea! Here is my issue:

I'm 25, love to dance, and in severe debt. As a newbie i'm nervous about the upcoming auditions and have been reading SW and working on my hustle to prepare. I'm not as toned as I would like, but wondering how many women shape up on the job? Should I throw caution to the wind and put on my stripper heels already, or do I tone up a bit before heading out there?

I am in Los Angeles, btw.

Thank you!

If you get the job you want...just tell your current employer that you are very sorry, but an opportunity you did not expect came along and you cant give it up. that you would not have accepted this position had you known this opportunity would come along...but fate had other plans and you are willing to help out however you can until she can hire someone else.

thank you so much! I needed to figure out how to be tactful enough and do it in a way that felt good for me....

I'm also like that sometimes, putting myself after others, and hurting myself through it, but i am learnimg that i need to do what's best for me first of all. my happiness demands it.

oh, and you type really fast!!!! thanks for being so awesome!

I hope you know how helpful and real your advice is. I know that I'm always really relieved to know i can just ask you when i have a dilema :)

Thank you!

Most women tone up while they are dancing. Even if you work out a lot..dancing in those heels works muscles you dont work any other way.

I'd go to clubs now...see whats out there, where you can get hired and where you like better.

Warning though: from what I know(and I'm sure our LA girls will confirm) LA clubs often mean nasty people and little money. So dont lose faith if you are turned away or called names....it's happened to some of the most gorgeous women on here in LA.

If you are able to travel at all....surrounding areas may fare better for you. You can post in Club Chat asking the LA girls for more details or do a search for it.

Good luck!!!

Well, I didn't file it anonymously, but I did file it. I have to call back tomorrow and give them the information on her and find out if they can use the gps because verizon said it was only for emergencies.

Good for you! And I would think this certainly qualifies as an emergency!

Dear Cameron,
How do I repeal my police report? I went to the club to get the name of the girl and the house mom told me not to file a report because it involves the police and the club. She said something about them losing their liquor lisecnce and putting 100 people out of work. I feel really really sick now and cannot stop crying. I didn't tell her I already filed it. I don't know how to deal with this; i don't want the police coming to the club. Please please help.

Yours truly,
I fucked up again

Ummm..thats stupid. Why would they take away their license and close the club because one random emplyoee(not even) stole from another?

You can call the police and tell them you want to stop it...that you were wrong and found it or something....but really...the house mom is an idiot.

This would not shut down the club. They likely wouldnt even come in,..,they would go to HER

Nope. They're always crying broke LOL..But thanks for the advice Cameron. I'm gonna go ahead and try it out.

Can you recommend safe but not too expensive places to check out or good areas?

I have no idea; it really confused me. She also said something about it being the only club in the parish, but I don't see how the police could shut it down. It's a clean club. I think I'm just gonna call the police and tell them I don't know her name so there is no need in investigating. I don't want to lose my job.

Dear Cameron,

I have had a lot of trouble falling asleep lately. My customary solutions of masturbating and having a snack are not working. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I dont really know a lot about the area..it's been a long time since I was there. But I'm sure if you post a thread, the local girls will be happy to help!

Well..my chronic insomnia requires chemical help. I take sleeping pills. If you dont want to go that route...try meditating, herbal remedies like Valerian or Melatonin.
Also, depending on what you are snacking on..that could be a problem too. If you are eating carbs or other foods that give you energy...it could be interfering with your sleep.

Check this out..lots of good tips here:

Why dont you ask the cops if theres any chance the club will get in trouble over this before you go ahead and let her get away with it?

Dear Cameron Keys,

Why do male porn stars always leave their watches on? Is there a reason for this? Every straight porn I watch, the man is wearing nothing but a wristwatch, and they never take those watches off. Who wears a watch nowadays anyway? This has confused me for years.

I dont know..I always leave my wristwatch on during scenes too unless specifically asked not to for some reason. I always wear a watch...never thought of it as an odd thing..

Maybe I'm just weird. For me, a man leaving his watch on is like leaving his socks on. It just looks odd to me. A woman's watch is different, it looks more like jewelry. I've never noticed if the female stars have their watches on or not, but the men's watches always jump out at me.

Guess I'm a weirdo. I just wondered if there was a reason I was missing.

Dear Cameron,

I am a happily married woman. Problem is i think my husband may not be. He says he is, but wants to have anal sex with me. I find that repulsive. He knew when we dated for 8 years that i would not do anal. So he asks me the other night if i would mind if he brings another woman into our home and has intercourse with her, ANAL!!! He says he wants me to be there, be a part of this by watching...? Does this mean he is falling out of love with me? If i say no, will he do this behind my back? I told him i want to be number one in his life, he says i am? I'm confused.

How can he love me, but want another woman in our bed and do her up the rear?

I feel as if he does not love me if he wants another woman. I asked if he could use a blow up doll, he says it's not the same.

HELP! I don't want to lose him, but don't want him with another woman either.

No ..no reason. Prob just lazy like me and they dont think about taking it off...plus on set theivery is something to deal with..I've had a diamond ring stolen on set when I had to take it off...so if the watch is expensive, he prob doesnt want to risk it disappearing.
