I,m not a Pats fan, but I have eyes. If any team epitomizes a dominant team, this is it. 10 games into season, avg. victory margin 25 points!! Other "good" teams victory margins, maybe 10-11 pts. Can any team beat them?? We'll see, but I recall '68 Baltimore Colts with 13-1 regular season record being beaten in SB3 (1969) by NY Jets, and "Joe Willies" "guarantee". We'll see...
Well, you know the old expression is "on any given Sunday any team can beat any other team". That's why they still play the games and why we watch. Fortunately the Patriots are coached by a guy who refuses to acknowledge anything beyond the next game as being important...and he has something to prove...

I'm assuming Kansas loses saturday because they're ranked #2 and the #2 teams have not been doing too good this year)
LOL. Perfect timing.
OSU back in the race? Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkk! *bangs head on desk*

In some kind of weird drunken state last night I bought tickets to next week's Big 12 Championship in San Antonio. I guess my logic was that I'd be seeing an eventual BCS national championship candidate...in Missouri. I am greatly disappointed that Kansas lost though. Even UCONN since I was totally rooting for the "basketball" schools yesterday. Speaking of basketball....just kidding! ;D
By the way, how much does it suck that most Cowboy fans won't be able to watch their team play this Thursday night at home on TV? Damn NFL network (or local cable company...wherever you fall on that particular score)! Basically going to have to hit a sports bar...heh, or titty bar...just to watch the game.

Oh, yeah...forgot to mention that I really did love how the last few days have gone:
1. Cowboys win
2. Aggies win beating Texas for the 2nd straight year
3. Coach Fran is out
4. Aggies basketball wins preseason NIT and will be playing Arizona next weekend whom #4 Kansas needed an OT at home to beat earlier today
Good week indeed.

^^^ Much to the relief of the Vegas Sportsbooks. That game opened at 22 and moved to 24.5. Some books had taken it off the board and if Philly had been crushed like the others, the books would have found a way to keep the Miami game from ever being posted.

I'm glad MU and KU are both doing well. I was happy when MU won only because I don't like KU fans. My gut feeling is that neither team deserves to be in the top 10. Guess I'm used to them sucking for so long, I can't accept sucess.

I agree, it's the old "on any given Sunday" rule and it is so true. They got as much as they could handle from the Eagles but a rusty QB made 2 key mistakes and the Patriots capitalized. I take nothing away from the Eagles. They went in determined not to roll over in spite of idiot comments from NBC "professional sports casters" about it being a "scrimmage" for the Patriots.
The only people in the world who thought the Eagles could win that game were the Eagles and Bill Belichick.

Now my Bucs play at NO today and we have a 2 game division lead. I am playing for my playoff tickets today even though (once again) I have to pay for two playoff games even though there is no chance in hell we will have a second home game in Tampa.

I think in spite of all the craziness going on, the right two teams were picked. Yeah, LSU lost twice, but they were both OT losses, which as far as I'm concerned ought to count as a semi-tie when figuring out messes like this. Apparently the powers that be agree with me.
And I'm in agreement its time for a damned playoff. It wouldn't even take adding any games. Just use two of the BCS bowls as semifinals, and the winners meet a couple of weeks later. Simple.

Well, I actually think it should have been LSU and Oklahoma. I just hate the fact that a team that sat idle for two weeks is the #1 team. Here's hoping that, as I said, OSU gets their asses handed to them by an SEC team again.
So last night was my first visit to a college football game in what seems like forever. Pretty much lots of craziness outside the Alamodome before the game especially since they weren't serving alcohol inside. The area around the dome was just littered with empty beer bottles and cans. Lots of drunk people inside as well.
Before the game I was standing in line at one of the concession stands behind a couple of blonde Mizzou coeds, one of which decided to sing along with the Star Spangled Banner. She turned around, and put her hands on my shoulders and continued to sing in my face. She was cute, but really...no need to sing badly...in my face. Her friend laughed when I gave the girl a WTF look.
My seat was in the endzone behind the goal posts. It was cheap and an aisle seat. Me big boy, me like aisle seat. I noticed about...I don't know, 30% of the upper decks on both sides of the field were empty so I eventually moved to a 20-yard line seat behind the Mizzou bench where I had a whole row in one section all to myself. However, that was a pretty sad area of the stadium to be in since Oklahoma dominated that game.
Anyway, I'll be back in the Alamodome at the end of the month for the Alamo Bowl between Texas A&M and Penn State.

Yeah, LSU lost twice, but they were both OT losses, which as far as I'm concerned ought to count as a semi-tie when figuring out messes like this. Apparently the powers that be agree with me.yeah, to save their asses. the only reason LSU made a bionic leap into the BCS is because Georgia didn't win their conference. although, many people believe otherwise. ironically, a team winning the conference isn't an official prerequisite to play in the national title game. however, the BCS took a lot of heat when Nebraska played in the national championship game without winning their conference. obviously, the BCS voters were reluctant to repeat the same PR fiasco with Georgia.
And I'm in agreement its time for a damned playoff. It wouldn't even take adding any games. Just use two of the BCS bowls as semifinals, and the winners meet a couple of weeks later. Oh, so close...the Patriots-Ravens I mean. How stupid was that timeout on the 4th and 1 play?
So, maybe I just don't get Vegas and NFL betting and what not, but going into the weekend, Miami was a one point favorite and one week after a Philadelphia team came very close to beating the Patriots, they were still 20 point favorites. I thought oddsmakers know what they're doing? Or maybe I just don't have any idea what I'm doing. :O :D

I was telling my dad during the third quarter that if the 49ers keep losing, their draft spot will get better. Since the Patriots hold the 49ers' draft pick for next year, I asked him if Darren McFadden was a junior or a senior. We definitely need rushing help.

LOL at the Ravens becoming the Dolphins' first victim. Brian Billick's job is now on the clock, regardless of what is said from now and the end of the season. 8 straight losses and becoming an 0-13 team's first victim has GOT to be humiliating.
I received two books on the Patriots over the weekend for my birthday and reading up on the Belichickian machinations of his tenure as Pats coach is very interesting. Winning today was also interesting, too.

Very true. The same goes for the playoffs.
I'm glad for today's win by the Pats against the Dolphins, but I have to say one thing: quit dicking around with the deep throw after deep throw to Moss. In the past couple of games, I've seen Tom Brady try to force that play so many times and I'm tired of it. Spread the ball around. Get everyone involved. Be efficient. This Al Davis deep-strike shit bugs the hell out of me sometimes.
Jim Nantz and Phil Simms said that Tony Dungy is going to rest his starters for the last game. I wonder if Bill Belichick will follow suit.

Well, I had an interesting last Saturday of 2007.
I'm a huge college basketball fan, and up until the last couple of years there really wasn't much out of Texas A&M basketball to cheer about. However, I'm all about great games so I'll watch anybody anywhere especially if I know it'll be a good game. Since Texas usually has a pretty good team every year, they end up scheduling some talented teams. I go to 4-5 games a year here for that reason. Saturday's game against Wisconsin happened to be a game that I thought would be very good, and it was. It was friggin' incredible. I think I started to lose my voice at the end of that game when Wisconsin won even before I headed to San Antonio.
After that game I left town for the Alamo Bowl. I didn't really think A&M had much of a chance against Penn State, but the game was played just an hour away, I had an aisle seat on the 40 yard line...it was all good. I was really impressed when I saw that A&M was practicing pass plays during the pre-game warm-up, and even more surprised when they came out passing on their first series! Whoa! The first quarter was pretty awesome, but the rest of the game...
...blah!
After the game, I headed to Mi Tierra which is a 24-hour Mexican restaurant not far from the Alamodome. The food there isn't really all that great, but it's a popular place especially late at night. As I was leaving, I was walking through the lobby when R.C. Slocum walked out of the bar area. I think I almost dropped to my knees and praised his divine presence. Most of you probably don't have any idea who he is, but he was the defensive coordinator for A&M when A&M was first beginning to become a force to be reckoned with in the SWC. He became head coach in 1988 creating a Wrecking Crew defense that menaced offenses and is the winningest coach in A&M history. Hells yeah, I was in awe.
And I held the door open for him as he was walking out of the restaurant. I just wished I hadn't left my camera in the car which was a block away.
So that was my saturday.

As a Patriots, and more specifically, Tom Brady fan, I am used to people coming up to me and unloading on the QB de jour/QB de jour's team being better than Brady and the Pats whenever I wear my Brady/Pats gear. I don't really mind that unless people get stupid with their comments.
The morning after the Pats beat the Giants, I was dressed in my usual Brady/Pats regalia and had a gas station attendant tell me the Pats 16-0 season wasn't as good as the 72 Dolphins' one for the simple reason that Miami won quite a few of their games with backup Earl Morral under center after Bob Griese went down with injury in the 5th week. When I pointed out Griese came back from injury and was the QB for the playoffs and Super Bowl, the attendant didn't care. He stuck to that nugget of info and wouldn't fucking listen to anything otherwise.
Grrr.
Of course, I did say at the beginning that unless the Pats win the Super Bowl, there wasn't any room for overall comparison, but that goes unsaid, especially given some of the comments that the Pats' players made echoing that sentiment. I'm glad for the record, glad we had such large success, but the season isn't over yet and we have quite a road to go before we can put a cap on things.
One game at a time.

I am pleased to admit that Laurence Maroney is proving me wrong with every game. He's running well and I'm glad for this new facet of our offense.
I am really glad for this win, but I kept getting flashbacks to the Colts game in week 9 with all the penalties.
If I had my wish, I'd rather see the Chargers than the Colts, but the Colts will probably win.
I officially hate snow games like the one today in Green Bay. That was ridiculous.

I'd rather see the Colts win only for the simple fact I'd much rather see another Colts-Pats game and it would likely be better than whatever becomes the Superbowl matchup. I think it's safe to assume the NFC has no chance against the AFC.
And it was especially painful to watch the game in Green Bay for me considering I'm a Seahawks fan. It's time for Alexander to move on, find a damn tightend and they sure as hell better resign Holmgren and Trufant.

The Packers can beat the Patriots. They are the best team in the NFC right now. Their only losses were to the Bears and Cowboys....the Bears? Hard to explain those other than to say shit happens.
The Cowboys loss was in Dallas. Dallas HELD onto the game. Green Bay was without two key defensive starters. I was never convinced that the Cowboys were the best team in the NFC.
In fact, as I have watched a young (not so young anymore) team develop as the year went on I would say that they are about the only team that COULD beat the Patriots. Green Bay has a lot of balance on both sides of the ball.

The loss to the Bears was in a wind-tunnel game at Soldier Field where the wind made passing and punting the ball an adventure and a half. The loss to the Cowboys was because Favre was injured partway through the game. Otherwise, they have quite a few tools to use.
I don't want them in the Super Bowl because all we will hear is Brett, Brett, Brett.
I am glad to have been on the anti-Tony Romo bandwagon for a while now. This meltdown did not surprise me. I know full well he can play, but he lacks clutch ability and leadership skill. Both of those detriments were on full display in the 4th quarter tonight.

The Packers can beat the Patriots.
Maybe if they had Antonio Cromartie. But even the best cornerback in the NFL gives away two vertical inches and a 0.1 seconds in the 40 to Randy Moss.
Romo and TO torched the Green Bay secondary in Dallas. As Chris Collingsworth aptly noted, Moss opens up everything else, most notably Wes Welker running patterns underneath.
That said, I would love to see Green Bay and New England play. If Favre is on, it could be the best Super Bowl game ever.

01-13-2008, 08:29 PM
^^^
Woodson did not play in the game in Dallas. That had a big effect on the secondary.
I am not saying that the Packers WILL beat the Patriots. I am only saying that they are the only team that could...IMO.
If both corners are in the game that makes a difference as the Green Bay pass defense is based off strong push coverage. Moss is the BEST receiver in football. In the past the type of corner he has struggled against the most is the physical kind.
If Woodson and Harris are both in the game. They will press Moss at the line of scrimmage. They will get chippy with him and try to take his head out of the game. Trying to cover Moss 20 yards downfield is pointless. Knock him down and beat him up. That is your best chance. That is what those two corners bring to the game.
On the offensive side of the ball Green bay may not have a Randy Moss or Terrell Owens, but they have 5 receivers that would be at least number 2 receivers on most teams and they will use all 5.
Another thing in watching the packers develop this year as they remind me of the Patriots in their professionalism. The thing that impresses me most about the Patriots is their mental approach to the game. Their commitment to execute well regardless of the game situation. I have seen that in the Packers this year also.
They have been a bit overlooked for most of the year. After week 6 the experts said that Detroit was looking good and would catch the Packers. Detroit collapsed. A few weeks later it was Adrian Peterson. Green Bay had nothing that could match Peterson. They stuffed Peterson...it goes on and on.
This is a young team that has improved as the year went on. They are a much better team than they were in week one. They started the year pretty good, but as the year went on they have become an excellent team.
Don't overlook them...they have a lot of balance on both sides of the ball.
