Hey criz, are you able to make a mid-winter run down to the warmth of AZ to root on The Pack, should they make it? I think the game is better on tv, but we were in Diego one year just for the pre-game craziness. The Vegas SuperBowl offers are starting to roll in for me, but I don't arrive until the 6th.

I am glad to have been on the anti-Tony Romo bandwagon for a while now. This meltdown did not surprise me. I know full well he can play, but he lacks clutch ability and leadership skill. Both of those detriments were on full display in the 4th quarter tonight.ahhh...don't blame Romo. otherwise, T.O. might call a press conference and pull another Hillary Clinton. sheesh, it's bad enough Garcia and McNabb are in the hospital with whiplash.

NFL Championship Sunday predictions:
Pats -13.5 over Super Chargers
Pack -7 over Giants
Chargers are really beat up, traveling across the country, playing in the cold, playing against a pissed off Randy Moss, it won't even be close.
Giants are tough on the road, but Eli is bound to be smacked back to reality, Pack win in a walk.

Bill Plaschke of the LA Times on the mellowing of Randy Moss
Yeah, I think Plaschke got it right. I would simply add that on a great team Moss finally got recognition for the way his presence on the field opens up so many other options. Wes Welker had a career year running patterns underneath Moss.

Dear Senator Arlen Spector,
You are a United States Congressman, not the commissioner of the NFL. The shady undergoings of the NFL (or any of our professional sports leagues) are not an issue impacting the federal budget, nor are they a threat to national security and therefore are none of your concern.
Quit using this "spygate" crap to get your geezery mug in front of the camera. You think George Mitchell is going to get a Nobel prize or something? Fuck the fucking hell off please.

Come now, doc...I racked my brain for hours and I couldn't think of any bigger issue facing our nation. I am just glad SOMEONE stepped up to take control of this rampant problem before it REALLY got out of hand.

I think he must be laying the groundwork so the next time a spycam shows up in a cheerleader dressing area, he has precedent to view it. He's probably still pissed he didnt get to see the Phi. Eagles footage, and with him representing Pa., how unjust!
I'm predicting aa easy romp for the Pats, with a slight chance of a backdoor cover by the Giants. Take away the kick return (kicked from the 15 following a penalty) and the garbage time TD and the first game wasn't that close. Not rooting for an Eli implosion, though.

As soon as the pairings were decided, my first instinct was the Pats beating the Giants by 11. I think the Giants can control clock with Jacobs and Bradshaw, and keep the Pats offense off the field for a half. But Brady will dink & dunk with Welker and Faulk, mix in some runs with Maroney, and eventually will hit Moss for one home-run ball. Assuming the score sticks to "football numbers", I see a 28-17 final and a fourth SB victory for the Patriots.
For the first time since the '05 Super Bowl I've put my money where my mouth is...I went to one of the local betting shops* and put some pounds down on the game.
I've got £33 (to win £30) on the Giants to cover the 12 points. I've got £22 (to win £20) on the game going under 54.5 points. And I've got £15 (to win £60) on New England winning by 7-12 points. To cover my ass, I bet £15 (to win £60) on New England winning by 13-18 points, and £15 (to win £75) on the Pats winning by 19-24 points. So pretty much the only way I lose the whole stake (£100) is if the Patriots blow them out in a high-scoring game (like a 48-21 score).
* Gotta love how over here in the UK, betting on sports is not only legal, but advertised during sporting events. Heck, they'll even run betting odds on the electronic advertising boards AT the stadium.

I think Specter's timing is outrageous, as is the timing of the new Spygate allegations. If Specter had piped up during the relevant time period, I wouldn't have a problem. But butting in months after the fact and waving the antitrust exemption stick just burns to no end.
All that said, I'm just hoping for a Pats win today. Doesn't matter by how much, but a win would be nice.

the NYG aren't the 69 Jets and Manning isn't Broadway Joe or even the SB MVP, but this was a big upset. the MVP was the NYG defense who biatch slapped Brady, Moss, et al and held them to 14 pts.

Sigh. I'm too far out of the football loop. Missed that happening. Who the hell is Zorn? I'd have given the job to Williams, personally. His defensive players would take a bullet for him. (No pun intended)

Snyder hired him as the offensive coordinator before finding a head coach, and ended up upgrading him, probably because most head coaches would prefer the ability to hire their own staff. Apparently Snyder is following his Al Davis home study course to the letter. He was the QB coach at Seattle previously so this is a 2 tier jump. As a redskin fan, I will just have to wait and hope.

It's okay. Feels kind of wierd because Favre stepped on the field 16 years ago and for all practical purposes never stepped off...until now.
You have to figure his body is beat to hell and even though he plays hard on Sunday I bet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc are very tough days for him.
It was a great ride. Now, we will see what Rodgers has in the tank.

On one hand, I'm glad he's gone. This 'will he or won't he" stuff is way too selfish for my tastes. He dragged it out for two years before this year and I feared that if the Pack had made the Super Bowl, he himself would have been the focus of the game, not the Pack vs. the Pats.
On the other hand, it is a sad day when a mainstay of the game and a true legend walks off the field for the last time. Happy trails, man. Next stop: Canton, OH.

The media played up the "will he won't he" angle. Favre did not do that. He gave honest thought the last couple seasons as to whether, or not, he could make it through another season. Not that unusual for a pro football player in his late 30's.
The media ran with it, because he was Brett Favre and probably because of his games played streak (after all he is the IRONMAN of NFL quarterbacks). He did not create the "hysteria." He was more a "victim" of it. One of the prices paid for fame.

I remember when John Elway retired. I watched his press conference with a dancer. She asked me, "Why is he crying? He's got a lot of money." Brett will stay in shape; he won't really retire in his mind until summer. :-\

We will see. I think it is the media taking things out of context. A recently retired layer telling a friend (player or coach) that he has the "itch" to play is not the same as saying he is going to play.
He just left football which has been a big part of his life for around 30 years. Of course, he is going to have the "itch" to play. It is the only livelihood he has ever known.

Then he should simply put out a statement in clear, unequivocal terms that he's not interested and is retired.
Anything else and it's him being selfish. Don't fan the flames and keep this speculation going for days upon days. End it now.

He isn't obligated to respond to something like this if he doesn't wish. Many people in his position pay little attention to what is being publicly said about them. Primarily because half of it is untrue (or taken out of context).
It is not selfish in the least. Try and walk in his shoes once. You would tire of the media speculating and fabricating stories about you also. You probably would not feel like responding either. It is obvious you don't like him and so your choice is to rip into him for anything.
He never fanned the media fury over retirement in the first place. That was the media doing what they do. He owes no one (including you) a response or explanation.

Favre is like the king of the zombies, whether it's during a game or retirement. Just when you think he's down for good, he rises to his feet again. Instead of "must...eat...brains, we get must...be...qb.
There's no way GB should give him an unconditional release. If he's reinstated as an active player they should name him the no.2 QB and then trade his ass back to ATL. If he were to show up in Lambeau in a Viking or Bear uni, that would be such a dagger in the heart to the great fans in GB.

I am not so sure Favre has the upper hand. They committed to Rodgers. Favre has a contract and if he wants to come back and the Pack says they will sit him on the bench...well...I doubt that will appeal to him...and there is nothing he can do about it. The Pack has plenty of cap room. If he did take the second string spot and Rodgers was injured...well...he would be a GREAT sub.
I think the Pack trading him is more likely than giving him his release. The Pack will not come off as jerks. Favre has every right to want to come back and play. The Pack has every right to make him honor his contract. Those are the rules.
