A selfish professional athlete with a sense of entitlement? Wow...that has NEVER happenned before......................... ;)

This is a much better pic CG.

Awesome pic...there is something very cool about that 'G'...it would not work as an avatar though...it would have to be too small....thus eliminating the wonder of it all...

That is a nice pic. But if you continue the rotation to 90 degrees it looks like a big O for oxycontin and a pilsner glass in the middle. :O

Cheap shot, I know.

Selfish sonofabitch. He makes me sick. Go away, old man. Go the fuck away.perhaps, but not surprising. you have to drag most great athletes kicking and screaming off the field and away from the spotlight. OTOH, i don't think you'll be hearing about Trent Dilfer's comeback anytime soon.

Is Trent Dilfer making a comeback????:O

I so can't wait for that! ;)

Did anyone actually see Favre's full interview on Fox? I saw an excerpt of it this morning. He seemed drunk. Wondering if anyone caught the whole thing.

I believe there is another segment airing tonight. I caught a bit of it and thought he was a little disjointed, but don't have anything to compare it to. I hope that wasn't the case.

He seemed to be talking in circles and not completing sentences. Sort of like he couldn't hold a thought. I did not see the whole interview though, so I cannot relate the context.

If the Packers offered Favre 20 million dollars to retire and he doesn't accept it he should have his head examined.

For fucks sake, just get it resolved. I don't care if he plays or not, I'm just tired of going to any sports website and seeing some headline about it, or going more than 10 minutes in a sportscast without someone mentioning it. He's even got his own freaking SECTION in the ESPN ticker!

MAKE IT STOP!!!

Is it possible that he has some impairment from one too many hits? It isn't just once that he's spoken publicly recently and appeared drunk. Half of me believes the Packer's fear facing him as an opponent with the Vikings or the Bears this year. Half of me believes the Packer's are willing to pay 20 million dollars because they may have a medical liability issue if he plays. Nobody's taken more hits than Brett Favre. Does he have concussive issues that are clouding his mental faculties? This is not me beating on Brett Favre. I have no inside info, but it could be another reason the Packer's are so steadfast in their approach with him.

crizgolfer

I think that if he had said he was not going to retire back in March, then the Pack would have welcomed him with open arms. His physical abilities are still there.

I think the appearance of drunkeness had more to do with coming up with reasons why the Packers were wronging him. He was talking in circles and not completing thoughts as though he were trying to come up with something good as opposed to actually having concrete evidence that the Pack was treating him poorly.

I like Favre and wish he would not have retired. Since he did, I have understanding for the Packers management and their stance. I am supportive of their choice (for better or worse). I also feel a bit for Favre. He knows he should not have retired. He had more left and now is having regrets, because once you leave a game like NFL footballl for any amount of time, it is very hard to come back. Especially when you are approaching forty.

If he goes to another team then "oh well"...even if it is the Vikings. If you look at Favres career two things stand out. When Holmgren and McCarthy were his head coaches he was at his best. When Rhodes and Sherman were his coaches he played a level lower.

Homgren and McCarthy are discipline coaches. They make all the players know who is in charge (yes, even Brett Favre). Sherman and Rhodes were softer on him. Allowing him to do more as he chooses. Thus, he had a tendency to get a bit wild.

I look at Bevell and Childress and see a coaching staff that will allow Brett free reign again. Favres negatives will be much more prominent in that case.

If it was just that the Packers didn't want him back, that would be one thing. But they don't want him to play for anyone, especially not someone in their own division.

I knew him as a University of Wisconsin Coach and followed him with the Eagles. He is an excellent offensive coordinator, but I was surprised to see him become a head coach at this level. The two require different skills.

If Favre somehow does end up in Minnesota, they become the favorites to win the NFC. Anyone heard anything further about the phone calls between Favre and Minn on his Packers issued cell phone?

crizgolfer
08-02-2008, 05:25 AM
I don't think there was much to the phone calls. Favre had conversations with many coaches. He has a lot of friends around the league. He also admitted talking to Gruden. These are all former coaches of his (with the exception of Childress). He had become friends with Childress while Brad was at the UW. The Badger staff spends a fair amount of time with the Packer staff.

It will be interesting to hear what comes out tomorrow. McCarthy is suppose to have a press conference tomorrow night...I believe...

Just wondering if you've heard anything about how his re-instatement with his $12 million cap cost will affect the team? There's word of subjecting him to "conditioning drills" after he passes his physical, before he joins the team on the field.

It would appear the leverage lies with Favre in these circumstances. Is it enough to get him traded to Minn? I think ESPN may start up an all Favre channel soon. ESPN-4

crizgolfer
08-03-2008, 07:19 PM
The Packers are about $30 million under the salary cap, so Favres salary is not an issue. We will see what happens tomorrow.

McCarthy has already talked to Rodgers about the plans for the situation. He is suppose to privately address the whole team tomorrow and then tomorrow evening he will talk publicly.

There are rumors that the Pack intends to keep him and have an open QB competition. These are just "reports" at this point, but we will know by the end of day tomorrow.

One interesting note...tonight is "Family Fun Night" at Lambeau. This is an annual team scrimmage that is held. Kind of a big festivity with a full stadium and in fact an entire day of fun for fans and players. Anyway, Favre is in Green Bay and Deanna was shown on camera...she is at Lambeau for the event. My guess is that Brett is there also though he was not seen in the camera shot.

If the Pack intended to trade Brett tomorrow...I find it hard to believe Deanna would want to show up at Lambeau tonight. Just a thought.

And there you have it. Favre to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick! (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8381934/Packers-trade-Favre-to-Jets) So what will this mean for Chad Pennington? Word is that the Jets will be cutting him in order to create some cap space.

Did anybody notice that Chad Johnson has officially changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco? He can now put it on his jersey without risk of a fine. Idiot.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I wouldn't write off the Pats too quickly[ Note: I am not a Pats fan]. They have bounced back from numerous other injuries in the past, starting with the injury to the guy that took them to '97SB, and Tom Brady stepped in with "the rest of the story". Matt Cassel may not be 2nd coming of Brady, but there are 21 other players both sides of the ball. I see Pats getting some "W"'s, but more like the 17-10 opener than their 38-10 blowouts of last season.

Any thoughts on the NFL putting a stop to Ocho Cinco being stitched to the back of Johnson's jersey? Do they have a legal leg to stand on?

Dirty Ernie
09-08-2008, 05:31 PM
It has something to do with the league's licensing agreement with Reebok and the remaing inventory of #85 Johnson jerseys. It will be ironed out quickly and OchoCinco will be recognized by the league as his legal name.

In other news, what happened to the elite of the AFC this weekend?!

NE won but lost
SD lost
IND lost
JAX lost
Only Pitt managed to meet expectations in week 1.

Lot of Packer jersey wearing fans in Las Vegas rooting for the Jay-Eee Tee Ess Jets Jets Jets yesterday.

Different name. Same ol' putz.

And this was still the best non name on a jersey, even if it was from the XFL.

I dunno. If Chad Johnson changed his name legally, I don't see how the league could legally prevent him from wearing Ocho Cinco immediately. If licensing and existing inventory was the justification given by the league, I call BS. Ocho Cinco jerseys were already available last year. Here's a pic from the Seahawks-Bengals game I attended:

And sorry Ernie. I don't count JAX among the AFC elite. Indy is just dealing with a rusty Manning.

The team and league had alreadytaken steps to redraft his contract and other legal docs with his new name for him to sign.

Although I don't recall anyone making a number change having this issue.

OK Jax isn't among the elite, but they were alot of people's pick to contend to move into that group.

And giving up 29 points to the Bears at home has nothing to do with a rusty Manning.

Sure it does. 9 points were scored by the Chicago defense and Indy lost the time of possession battle. You could point to the Colts poor run stop defense but they've historically been one of the worst teams against the run.

It's been 4 years and he hasn't been hurt yet.;D

Interesting to compare his path and future with that of Alex Smith, who's career with the Niners appears to be over. Fan sentiment over the first pick that year was pretty evenly split between the two. I think the circumstances in SF over the last 4 years may have ruined any qb.
