When your name comes to you...you just know it. I went by a few differant names before I settled on Cameron...none of them felt right. When Cameron came to me...I just FELT it...it was ME. It felt like thats the name I was meant to have...its hard to explain..but when the right one hits your ears...it wont FEEL like a character name. It will just feel like you.
I think I know what you mean...this is how i feel about Brooklyn Blair....like, i'm so excited for it to be Monday, so i can call my agent and say "i changed my name!"
I can imagine being called Brooklyn...i love it, honestly.
Whats more, the fact that there are other Brooklyns doesn't even bother me...that's how i know it's mine (brooklynn being not as saturated as say, Briana is just a bonus lol)

Just posting to say that picking a name that is easy to spell is IMPORTANT.
I'm only going as far as softcore porn, but even my name gets spelled wrong. Ashlee is constantly being spelled as Ashley/Ashleigh/Ashlea, and some asshole company registered my exact domain name with Ashlee spelled as Ashley before I could get it, and now it just redirects to some hardcore site called Australian Whores.
Just something to be aware of, if you choose a name that has multiple spellings and you're getting domains... get the domains with all the spellings as soon as you can because if you don't, there are companies that will snap them up and use them to take your business from all the people who can't spell your name.
Edit: Oh, and my surname Adams sometimes gets misspelled as Addams. And when I was Darcy Foxx, I constantly had to tell people that it was "Foxx with two X's"
I guess my point is, if it can be spelled wrong, it WILL be spelled wrong. Just be sure to cover all bases... Brooklyn/Brooklynn/Brooklinn etc.

I'm seeing a lot of people with Brianna Fox, when I went to do porn a girl I was staying with actually chose that name. I say take the time and come up with something original, I know how you said Brianna is your middle name, but how many people use that name when you think about it. I think it's best to come up with something original for yourself, it makes you stand out more if you want to become famous doing this especially.

Yeah, even if I write out my name on paper for a company that shoots me, I'll show up with different spellings. I found myself as Ginger Leigh today. When the fuck did I become Ginger Leigh? I have never spelled my name like that, but somebody decided to do it for me.
I won't even start on the companies that won't let me say a name at all during a shoot so they can change it to something completely different. Some magazine in Japan gave me a totally different name, and there is a website calling me Kelly or some bullshit. Hey, I don't get a choice in what I'm called, as soon as I sign my release it says they can call me whatever they decide and there's nothing I can do about it. Same goes with my stats or bio for a movie or magazine.
Fuck, one day I'm 18 and from Kentucky, and two hours later I'm a 22 year old runaway from some random town with a Stuckey's. (Yes, those have both been used on me even though they aren't true.) It's not even my character's bio, people and sites just make shit up as they go.

Heh I have that happen too... I found some of my stuff on a porn site under the name Sasha Blue... apparently I'm from Sydney, I'm 19, I love tequila slammers and my favourite food is KFC. (Of course, this was all copyrighted material and I had a contract with the photographer saying it wasn't allowed to be sold without my written permission and I was to take 50% of profits... turned out he was dodgy and sold them behind my back. I also found 3 of my friends on there under different names... all four of us threatened legal action and the whole site got pulled down. Hah.)
I also found some other dodgy porn agency site from Europe or somewhere, that had pics of me under the name Natasha.

wow that's shady!
But you're very right @ Darcy (or should i call you Ashlee??)...When i was first at the agency and told them i was Briana Sky, they wanted me to be Briana Skyy. And I was like, well if someone googles me, they might not initially put the 2 "y's"...but you are a smart cookie for that one!
I love saying my name...Brooklyn Blair....LoL im too excited.

the consonance part is cool, people tend to remember those types of names easier (ie. Jenna Jameson, Briana Banks, etc..) Plus, many are familiar with Brooklyn in New York, so spelling probably won't be much of an issue either. Also gives them a place association to help in their memory cognition.
Congratulations on finding your name. Kind of like the Cinderella glass slipper where it's a perfect fit.

HA! I love reading the crap they come up with for me...it always SO far off. In one magazine I was 28, had 2 kids and was divorced and hadnt dated in years...in the other(which was shot the same day!) I was 32, had 1 teenage daughter and brought strange men home all the time. I made my dates stay super quiet so they didnt wake her.
I was like..damn....my one kid grew up REAL fast...what..did I sell the other? Wait..I dont have kids...LOL!

yup, alliteration always helps, and you made a good point about the spelling...i'm loving it even more now :)
@ Cameron - so because you sign a release, they can say whatever they want about you? What about the brand and the image you're trying to cultivate for yourself? Does that happen to everyone throughout their career, or just in the beginning? Can they do that with video too?

Yep..they make up the story. Once that release is signed...you have no say in what they do or what they say. They can put you in everything...even HBO and cell phone downloads...they own that image shot that day. And they can say anything they want. Its like a movie script. You arent shooting as YOU..you are shooting a fantasy and they get to write the script.
I've never seen them change my name...but I'm sure I'm printed places I dont know about where it is.

i see i see, and that's where owning your own production company where you own the rights to your photos comes in handy...or at least contracting your own photographer so you can have your own material. right?

Yeah, in porn, once you sign a release they own whatever it is you shot that day, and you can't complain about what they do with it. I've actually got a release somewhere saying that from that date until the end of time they could do anything they wanted to do with my images, even if it was 'damaging' to my name or image. They don't give a shit about your brand or image, they've got your signature, so you're screwed. Shit, there was a company that bought content from a shoot I did and put it on a 'fake' escort site. Like, they turned me into a hooker for that shoot. Am I a hooker? No. Was there anything I could do about the fact that my content was sold to a site that turned my scene into a hooker scene? No. :-\
I just got off the phone with the editor of a *major* men's magazine, and he told me what issue I was in. When he was talking to me he let me know they changed around my 'story' so it would not be the same as I thought it would be. It happens all the time, it's pretty normal these days.

Porn union would probably work like stripper union. Bad. Seems good in theory, but would screw everybody in the long run. Lord knows I don't want any other kind of law stuff thrown into my scenes, because it's a pain in the ass as it is.
Honestly, part of the reason the companies word their releases the way they do is to totally cover their asses while leaving the girls with basically no wiggle room. Of the more than 95 or so scenes I have done, probably 80 of them have been sold to somebody else and then sold again. The companies recycle content forever, and they have every right to do so. Sucks for us, rocks for them.

so here's the plan: get your foot in the door...then create your own content.
sounds smart enough.

Big secret? I'm curious to know, even vaguely, what was changed...your birth order? (lol that interviewer in the link in this thread was all up IN it!)

that's crazy tho...
like if people know your face, and know who you are, wouldn't they already know your backstory and read the publication and be like "Hey her name's not Stefanie!" or whatever?
what is the point of changing the story?

Because its an acting job. You are playing a character..whether in pictures or on film.
We know damn well its Angelina Jolie and shes not "Mrs Smith"...but we watch the movie anyway.

^^ ooohhh! that's a good way of looking at it.
and although there is the title of "adult film actress" i never associated it with acting. but you'd have to act if you're going ot maintain your sanity.
great assertion!
