Sorry hun, but I agree with them, you can get wormer from the store for cheap

She's better off getting it from her vet. Strore bought wormers can sometimes do more harm then good.

Well of course, but she's even better off going to work and making money to cover all bases.

I was thinking about this whole situation while I was in the bath and I was just disgusted at it all. How can a stripper be so broke that he would post something like this (the original post)?

I mean I could understand it if she was hurt badly or very sick or something unexpected, but at the same time, with hr being on this site, she should have known shit can happen and save money. Maybe even a BA or something, but when I was considering mine I figured in taking off 6 weeks or so into my saving cost, ya know?

Also having a bunch of pets really isn't an excuse. I have a cat and 2 dogs myself, plus I am fostering 2 kittys and dogsitting my Dad's dog. Buttons, (Dad's dog) requires a very special diet where I have to cook for her 2x a day, and my boys both get a 1/2 raw prey diet, and 1/2 premium food, plus the cats get Felidae, and I feed myself, hubby, and kiddo. We also have a few hundred saved for each of our pets, plus around $500 for the fosters in case of emergency. If nothing else apply for Care Credit and use that or another CC for vet bills, or emergency use only (like vet bills, hospital bills or car problems).

I just don't get it. How can you work in a cash business nightly and still only have $20 to eat with for that long of a period of time?!

I guess that is what gets my goat the most. We are in a potential very high income business, how you can NOT have funds saved for emergencies is BEYOND me.

Cam, I am NOT bitching at you with this post, BTW; I am just venting out loud.

Oh, dear sweet mod; if you feel this is out of line, please delete it, and reprimand me if needed. I was just in shock with the original post, and I might have taken the tone of it incorrectly.

Slightly offtopic...but isn't it the Hartz wormers you can buy from the store sometimes deadly? I know it's the Hartz something, maybe flea treatment that can actually kill a pet....

.

Because shit happens. I know myself..every time I get a substantial amount in savings something happens where I am forced to drain it...I get hurt or sick or a hurricane hits my house. Or I have weeks where I am lucky to make $100 every shift...and considering that my bills are substantial...$100 a day aint gonna leave me much left over even if I work every day.

She already said it was a temp thing. And that it isnt that she doesnt HAVE more money...she'd just prefer to spend it elsewhere if she can eat cheap. Differant priorities thats all.

Stripping isnt always a windfall of cash.

Yes. Hartz products in general can be very toxic. Why they are still allowed to be on the shelves is beyond me. I've seen quite a few VERY serious cases(some which did not survive) of poisoning from various Hartz products

I don't remember exactly what happened but I know one of our cats got sick from a Hartz flea collar. It was bizarre.

Totally unrelated, but the cat wouldn't even play with Hartz toys. I guess he was an animal of snobbish tastes, haha.

^ My cat wouldn't either! But she's not a snob... she plays with the toys I make her! She has a little rosella toy (bad I know) and a fish... omg I'm owned by my cat.

Hmm, I think the topic of this thread is excellent. Not sure about the other drama though. I used to eat out a lot, and yes, did do my shopping at Whole Foods until I started saving my receipts and looking at them for tax purposes. I think that wanting to save money on food is very smart seeing as food is bought so frequently. I would eat out so frequently that I spent 200+ a week in food, which now that I think about it is quite embarassing. Going to a food pantry is not necessarily a bad thing as many are overwhelmed with donations from bakeries, restaurants, etc. that often food is sent to the garbage. Also, some states have programs where you can do volunteer work in order to participate in their food club, where food can be bought in larger quantities for deeply discounted rates.

If the OP lives in K Falls then I can feel her pain. That is one depressed economy used to make money on lumber and agriculture, since logging and farming are both simultaneously being fucked over by environmentalist zealots there is little money to spend on luxuries like strippers.

Now back to the thread.
Heres a list of free articles from Backwooshome magazine some are recipes and others are on more frugal ways of food production.

I didn't know about the Hartz thing, I'll steer clear of that. I used to buy their flea collars & other anti flea stuff, but it never worked.

It seems every town has a fantastic cheap as hell Chinese restaurant. When I lived in Astoria it was Golden Star, now the local place is Fung's. You can get a shitload of food for about $5 and it's a nice break from the ramen and PBJs. Still not recommended to do very often since it's still more expensive than making your own food, but if you're craving a break it's a good way to go.

And you'd be surprised what you can find in the bulk section for dirt cheap.

Alrighty!

Let's keep this thread on track. LolaRose and Callyish, take it to PM's. It's cute but not in the least related to the thread.

If you're shitfaced, no one gives a fuck. Unless you post it in the Lounge. :P

Let's stick to cheap eats and what the OP asked about, m'kay?

My two cents: if the OP is merely choosing to eat cheap, then my opinion is that if she's choosing to skimp on food but has some disposable income that she should absolutely NOT skimp on caring for her pets. If she can afford to get them the best care, DO IT. All pet owners have that responsibility.

Aside from that, carry on...

ok i tried reading this post the best i could and im ganna chime in..

First off DO NOT FEED YOUR CAT TABBACCO! I am a vet tech and you hear this all the time do not do it. the girl earlyer was right the arsnic (sp?) will kill your cat. spend the money and have him dewormed by a vet there is a cheap vet clinic that is at some of the feeed and hardware stores ( i dont know if its down by you but i know eugien and portland have them) for fleas. feed them brewers yeast the fleas do not like the taste of the blood or the sent the animal gives off. only like a 1/2 teaspoon per feeding if that.

if you dont have money to live comfortably then why do you have 5 cats? you say you like to live cheap and do so but now you are asking for reciepes? if you live cheap shouldnt you allready know how to cook cheap? ( did that make sense?) you should allways put your needs before you pets. it is amazing if you do your work how cheap a pet can be ( buy cat food from the dollar store!) if not then maybe you need to think about getting rid of your cats, or a few cats.

i honestly insted of strugeling would wait to dye my hair for 10 days so i could eat. and why are you relying on your b/f for money? get a better job so you dont i have learned that the hard way. he leaves your fucked

$20 for 10 days worth of food
WINCO! its awsome
here is what i have done

mac and cheese ( only use butter and water taste just the same)
lunch meat ( cheap pound pag for 2 bucks
bread
romin
chicken breast
if on special hambuger helper just dont use hamburger

I would highly advise against getting cheap dollar store cat food as well as maintaining pets 'because they're cheap'. At no point should an animal suffer (have you SEEN what's in that food? Just feed them the cigarettes and get the killing over with!) because a human was unable to care for their funds. I have a pet credit card, have worked extra hours and even have a savings so my bird (and cats) can have the best. You -do not- go into having a pet going 'Well it'll only be twenty dollars to care for!'... that's never good. I can't believe that as a vet tech you'd actually recommend the cheap crap foods at dollar stores. Even when I'm broke as, I'd prefer to make sure my cats are still eating Royal Canin or Wellness (American) over me having a bit more money for food. I commend her for that decision; she's thinking of her responsibilities over herself. The hairdye is another story, but I digress.

Eating for uber-cheap is a fun challenge, I used to do it. Goal was $10 a week, mostly healthy. I did a lot of scavenging of the 'almost expired' section of chinese groceries. Yay!

Yeah, you really do get what you pay for with pet foods. Feeding cheap food is the equivalent of feeding a kid nothing but ramen and coke. Most of the ingredients are fillers, and you end up having to spend more by feeding more so the pet can get what it needs.

At least go for brands like Purina, Science Diet, etc. Even better go to a feed store or something like that and get some Natural Balance or something. It's worth the money and cats really don't eat all that much anyway.

oh i feed my cat wellness its about 11 bucks for 2 weeks. i have insurance for both my dog and cat. But im $$ able to do so. and have that and be able to spend $200 on food each month. Im saying for her thought if she cant afford to pay for her own food then she needs to put them on cheaper food or get rid of a few cats. i have gotten the dollar store food before (wet food) and it was imes ( i know not the greatest ) but i was out of food and the holistic place where i get my food at was closed for the day. make sense now?

purina is crap its cutting room floor scraps.my husband feeds the dog that ( i hate it but its his dog) i work in a holistic dog and cat spa and we only sell holistic type foods like wellness

Purina's been recalled multiple times and Science Diet is just $1 store stuff priced higher to make you think it's better. They also give kickbacks to vets who recommend them. Sick, no?

Totinos frozen pizzas - especially the 3 cheese kind - are 98 cents per pizza and they are SOOOO fucking delicious. I seriously have to forbid myself from buying more than 2 at a time because I crave them all the time and scarf them down. I like to eat one for dinner with a side salad and some grapes in fat free cool whip for dessert. :) Yummm.

Personally I wouldn't feed Purina or SD or Iams, or ANYTHING from a grocery store or Wal-Mart.

But then again, I am a "pet food snob", lol. We feed the cats Canidae, and the dogs 1/2 raw prey 1/2 Canidae.

It's actually cheaper to feed better food since you don't have to feed as much and they get more nutrients.

NB is good, along with Canidae, Blue Buffalo, Royal Canin, Wellness, and Innova.

Won't even go into why you should take better care of your pets, but I'll help on the recipes.

I always found that doing a huge lot of cooking on Sunday and freezing for the week ahead helps.

Some recipes that are cheap and freeze well:

Chili - Chopped Meat, pkg of seasoning, can of beans or some rice, can of tomatoes.

When whole chicken is on sale, buy it and roast it. That's one dinner.

Take whatever breast meat is left and mix with mayo, some chopped onion and celery for chicken salad, that's two meals.

Boil the carcass for 3 hours covered in water. Remove carcass. You wouldn't believe how much meat is still left on that thing! Reduce liquid down by half, add a can or two of chicken broth. Put in the meat you took off the carcass, some celery, carrot whatever is cheap. Some egg noodles cap off the soup. That's 3 meals from one chicken.

Don't know if you like hot tuna, but that string bean, mushroom soup, fried onion casserole is killer with a can of tuna in it.

Make a pot of spaghetti sauce and freeze meal sized portions separately. Thaw when needed. You can put that on pasta or any meat that's cheap that week.

Beef stew. When beef is on sale, purchase it and cut it up yourself into cubes. I use pot roast because it's meant to cook for hours. There are some great packaged stew seasonings out there for about a dollar. Add a bag of frozen stew veggies and you're set.

Have salad and sandwich night. There's nothing that says comfort like a nice grilled cheese sandwich and a nice crisp salad.

Breakfast for dinner is easy too. Omelettes are easy to make and you can throw ANYTHING in them. Great way to use up leftovers. Fry up a few potatoes on the side.

My personal fave from when I was a poor child...baked macaroni. Cook some elbow macaroni, add just enough sauce to moisten; layer pasta and american cheese and bake at 350 till cheese melts. YUM.

Hope this helps you. Just plan better and remember that taking the time to cook on the weekend is key and your freezer is your friend.

Hmmm, I really need to budget my personal eating, but I think I'm too food snobby to enjoy most of that stuff. I know, I know, I'm a food asshole. I'll just continue to expense my meals to my company like I'm not supposed to, lol!

I don't think you're a food snob! I wouldn't eat most of the stuff I described anymore either. We eat out quite a bit actually. And I don't mean fast food; I mean real restaurants.

I'm right there with ya! (but I usually only expense my lunches)

2 bags of frozen veggies
1bag of whole grain scooters cereal(brand x cherios)
1 bag of brown rice
bananas (cheap fruit)
beans(dried is more labor intensive but cheaper)
eggs
block of cheese
milk
Go to walmart and buy everything that is brand X from the above list. The beans, egg, cheese and veggies can make a really good omlette together.
