Oh no, the ticker isn't savings. It's how much I need to make by the start of next week. :-[ I find it's easier to go in and it keeps my mood up when I can see my progress towards little goals... gets me thinking about how much I've made, rather than how much I haven't.

And there's a smoking ban coming up in Portland?! PERFECT!!! OMG, I can't wait.

I've never understood why people tip a DJ. In my mind, he is already being paid. If you don't tip him it isn't like he won't play songs since he's already being paid to do that and there are about 500 DJs who would love to take his place. Same thing for the VIP host or whoever else it was who was jacking your money.

You may want to try an experience where you don't tip them anything. If they succeed in making your life miserable, then maybe go back to tipping. If not, then screw it.

At most clubs, tipping the DJ is required, and no they are not always getting paid. I've worked in multiple clubs where the DJ received no compensation other than tips from the dancers, and sometimes he had to tip the management out of the tips he received from the dancers. Letting the DJ exist solely on dancer tips is actually not a bad idea, since his pay depends on how well we do and he's theoretically more motivated to help us make more. But there are just way too many shithead DJ's out there.

The VIP host at this club in particular, however, is not getting another tip from me. He's never there to do his job, we have to fight off the customers' octopus hands by ourselves and hunt him down for payment before every dance, and all he does is hang out on the front step smoking. I don't get paid to sit around outside smoking, so I don't see any reason why he should. So he won't get another dollar from me.

^^Whoa, be careful with that. He may play songs extra long to keep you on stage when you're exhausted, put you on stage a lot (when you don't want to be), never put you on stage (when you want to go up), not give you any warning on you're about to go up, not play the right music....

I mean, if the guy is a jerk, that's different. But otherwise, I would take care of the DJ. They can be a great help to you. I'd only withdraw tips if they were hurting me in some way first.

Yek, I was just thinking of you in bed the other night, hehe. If you need to buy bikinis, just go to Target/TJ Max/Ross, etc, and get a couple on sale from the summer. They will be cheap. Just wear them over and over again, who cares what anyone thinks.

When I first started stripping, I was a broke student. I had 2 dresses that I alternated, and worked every day. After a few weeks I bought a third, then sold it a week later for more money than I had paid for it (dumbass strippers, lol ;) ) That really helped keep my expenses down.

Yekhefah
09-27-2007, 11:38 AM
^^^ That's a pretty good idea. I hate how I look in bikinis and so far I've been wearing the corset Guenevere made me, and I just bought a pink PVC top and skirt. A few Target bikinis might round out the wardrobe nicely, so thanks for the tip!

Letting the DJ exist solely on dancer tips is actually not a bad ideaI think it's a horrible idea. Because it turns most of them into money-grubbing pigs who find increasingly shittier ways to extort money from the girls. Your current DJ demanding $2 from every lapdance is a perfect example.

The club can afford to pay the fucking DJ, but there's that whole piece-of-shit-clubowner-greed thing that always gets in the way of running a club properly ::) Ima jump right off this soapbox now because if I don't it'll get ugly.

Yek, keep your chin up and keep watching that ticker go. If I were you I'd have taken off to another city long ago. I don't understand what it is exactly that keeps you so f'in determined to stay in LA even though it's clearly hell on earth, but I guess I have to say more power to ya :D

Good point. I've worked with a couple who handled it right and understood that their job was to help us make money, but you're right, most of them haven't the brains to figure this out.

I don't understand what it is exactly that keeps you so f'in determined to stay in LA even though it's clearly hell on earth, but I guess I have to say more power to ya

Career, life, friends, etc. Right now I'm staying through the rest of the semester for my day job and my Chinese class... but I felt that I owed it a few years to really give it a chance. It's been three years, so it's time to move on. I'm concerned about leaving the film community here but there's a film community in Portland, and I'm hoping that with my experience and education I can be a slightly bigger fish in that smaller pond. We're planning to give Portland a year, make sure we can both make a living and see if we can save up about $30,000 between the two of us, and if it all works out then early in 2009 we'll put that money down on a house there.

So when ARE you moving up here, Yek?

Looks like January. K's going to be working in southern Oregon from the end of October through mid-December, so I'll come up for Thanksgiving weekend and we'll check out Portland together and everything... and then after the New Year, we'll pack up and go. I just realized, that's the dead season for the clubs up there, right? Heh. Oops.

^^^

I'm just really irritated because when I got hired, I was told to tip 10% of lapdances to the VIP host and 10% of the stage to the DJ. While greedy, at least there's a logic to that. But last night there were little to no stage tips, so the DJ took it upon himself to let me know he's entitled to $2 per dance. That makes no effing sense to me whatever; what the fuck has he got to do with my lapdances? Grrr. It's not even like he does a damn thing to help me sell them, except run endless 2-for-1 specials (which I haaaaaaaaaate beyond belief).

Can you play the staff against each other? By this I mean, telling the VIP host you'd tip more, but the DJ insisted that you needed to give him the money instead and vice versa?

The DJ DID SAY that you needed to give him a % of the Lap dances, didn't he? When you tell the VIP host this, he will invariably tell you that he is the one that should be tipped and not the dj. Let them duke it out with each other with this phrase "Oh, sorry but __________ said I needed to give him the tip instead. Take this issue up with _________." }:D

Yekhefah
09-27-2007, 03:25 PM
Heh. If the VIP host complains about my not tipping him, I'll try that... but at this place he'd probably just say, "No, you have to tip both of us." They really don't give a shit whether we go home with any money or not, as long as they do.

Jess and I are going to visit both Atlanta and Portland. If it turns out we don't like ATL, I am moving to Oregon and we are opening a dungeon, dammit! I've been doing this for years and I have met few other Dommes with enough sense to do things right. I think you would. I'd like to research the laws a bit more and see what I can and can't do. But I have seen so much crap in dungeons that I KNOW I would have a great one.

In the meantime, keep your head up. It will get better!! I have to keep reminding myself of this too.

Yek, I'm just catching up on EVERYTHING right now - so this is a go? For sure? I don't think I ever got a chance to give my 2p, but I absolutely LOVE Portland and the Hood River area too! This gets 2 thumbs up from me. I bet you'll adore it. My 2 best friends from high school both live there & I've visited them tons, any chance I get. So now I could come visit you, too!

Alexxa, I bet you'd love it too. Have you heard of the hipMama community? Started by Ariel Gore & Bee Lavender (who's a friend of a friend), two of the most righteous babes ever. ANYWAY, Portland's hipMama Central. Both my friends have kids now, and it's just the greatest place to have a funky alternative family. If ever there was a place where exposing your "Evil Cunt" belly tattoo while changing a diaper in public wouldn't cause passersby to even blink, Portland is it. :D

(Heh, listen to me. "Everyone move to Portland! I'll catch up someday.")

WHAT????? you're BOTH leaving me??? alexxa, yek, you suck...

but... how come I'm not saying "dancing in L.A. sucks?" I mean, just to play devil's advocate... even when E is slow, it's not terrible. When I had to pick up some shifts at SUgarwalls and FC, it wasn't bad either... so... am I missing something??? I guess I am... I just really wish that you two had danced with me and seen a difference. :-\ But I understand that it's far... and nothing's certain, of course.

Alexxa - I have faith you will absolutely hate Atlanta. The traffic is just as bad as L.A., the people are mostly judgemental rednecks, the weather sucks, and the crime rate is through the roof. Everyone here knows I love the South, but Atlanta is pig-effing-awful. So I'll be looking forward to opening that dungeon!

Rose - YAAAAY, Rose visits!! Wait'll you see the pimped-out kitchen I'm-a have! ;D

Embyr - I would totally totally totally come dance down there if they would let me work weekends only, but I don't see that happening... and I doubt I could handle the mileage. I've been so spoiled with air dances that now the gentle touch of a hand on my knee makes my slappin' hand go up. From what I hear of the mileage in Santa Ana and the LBC, I doubt I could keep up. Still though... I'd tolerate it for a weekend or two *IF* they didn't make me work any weeknights. No go, huh?

Another reason to hate L.A.

I work in a bikini club. We have really hot girls in very sexy little outfits (bikinis or corsets with little 3/4 bottoms), who do great stage shows and play great music. You can come in, get a good drink, watch some killer stage shows, and get some hot lapdances from the aforementioned sexy bikini girls. Who wouldn't love that?

L.A. guys, that's who. I've only been working there a week and I'm getting really effing tired of having the following conversation, which transpires exactly like this at least two or three times a night:

Him: So when do you guys get topless?
Me: We don't. This is a bikini club.
Him: Huh? I paid a $10 cover charge and you don't even go topless? You just wear that?
Me: Well, yeah. I think hot bikini girls are worth the cover, don't you?
Him: No. I can see that at the beach. (nudges friend) Dude, they don't even get topless here. You wanna go somewhere else?
Friend: Huh? They just dance around with their clothes on? Fuck that, let's go.

The other night a guy sat at my stage, watched the whole show with a dour expression, and when I asked for a tip at the end he just glared and said, "For what?" Um, for not hitting you right now, asshat. You think I'm laced up in this tight corset with fake lashes and uncomfortable shoes because I was just hoping your cheap ass would come in and I like you? Grrr.

Anywhere else in this country, guys would be pleased to see beautiful half-naked women dancing. Leave it to a bunch of fucking Angelenos to get all jaded and cheap.

*mopes* I guess we can start brainstorming about names for our dungeon. :P

Rose - I've never heard of the hipMama community but it sounds pretty cool.

Embyr - You've been spoiled! I used to have a club like that, one that I just felt at home with and made money in, but they remodeled, then I came back and it wasn't the same, got pregnant, yada yada...it's good again from what I hear and they won't hire me back now for some unknown reason. I think I kind of just disappeared without officially quitting. Dumb mistake, but they've taken girls back after tons more problems and drama so I wonder if a dancer there made some shit up about me since I was starting to make really good money right before I left. Either a bitchy dancer or another LA manager power trip deal...anyway, I just don't know if I could come work at your club yet. I have about 5-10 lbs to lose and then I can show up on night shift to audition (best to avoid the same dude who let me audition on the day shift weeks back - lol). I would LOVE to work days so I can spend more time with the peanut. I wouldn't mind the drive at all if I could make decent money.

Yekhefah,

What do you expect, they thought it was a topless club and when they found out it wasn't they were disappointed. Maybe the club can post a sign saying it is only a bikini club, no nudity. That way you can avoid these types of guys coming in. I would be upset if I paid a $10 cover thinking it was a topless and then found out it a bikini place.

Please pardon my rant...

I am working at a bikini club where a lapdance costs $20. The club takes a $5 cut of that, so ostensibly I get $15. But oh no. The VIP host, who does absolutely nothing but sit on his fat tuchas all night, expects a few bucks out of that too, and the DJ expects a minimum of $2 per lapdance, plus a cut of the stage tips. So basically I get to bust my ass and do all the work, and everyone else gets HALF my fucking money.

You'd think that for a sweet arrangement like that, they'd be appreciative. But oh no. I get sneered and snarled at all night, and tonight I got bitched out no less than three times for wearing a short, sexy, VS push-up negligee. Apparently the UNIFORM at this club is bikinis and boots, and if you don't look good in a bikini and boots, tough shit. The opinion of the non-spending customer who complained about my outfit apparently matters much more than the opinions of all the customers who did spend money on me and told me I was beautiful. ::)

So now I have to take what little money I get to keep and go spend it on a bunch of fucking bikinis even though they are extremely unflattering on my figure. I'm out of places to work in L.A. and this one is at least convenient for other reasons. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK I am SO VERY DONE with this town, I hate working here, I hate every second I have to be in a club here, and I HATE THE FUCKING MANAGERS HERE!! Every strip club manager in L.A. is a GREEDY, STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE!!

I can't wait to move. Unfortunately I have to make the money to move first, which means working EVEN MORE in L.A. Gah. I am so very ready to go. Whatever Portland is like, it's got to be better than here.

Thanks for the input, Velvet. I still want to visit. Maybe I will fall in love with it, but it's hard to just have a trial run at working at the clubs with the huge licensing fees. From what I read, it's more like $400 when all is said and done. Mardi Gras doesn't require a license but I'm sure that place is overrun with girls because of it. If I ever come up with the cash to do all this, and I'm sure I could eventually, I am definitely going to try it out. There are a lot of good things about the place, but several bad things - this is hopefully going to be a long term thing for us so I want to weigh out my options carefully.

I actually LIKE the rap and ass shaking. If you saw me on stage you might be surprised. ;) But I also like to get down to other kinds of music - I am all about diversity and having the ability to express myself in my usual eclectic manner. I know my true calling is BDSM, but I have to do my best with the dancing until I just don't have it in me anymore.

As far as Portland goes, Jess has to see if there is a branch of his school there so he can transfer his credits and continue where he left off. That would be a huge factor in deciding when we do this. If he can't continue his schooling up there, we will have to wait about 9 months. I think I will go nuts if I have to wait that long though. :O

I am pretty serious about the dungeon though - I'm going to look into local laws, and start to make contacts. That would also be a huge factor in deciding when or where we go.

this is exactly what i heard, too. 2 of the chicks i work with used to work there back when it was decent, they say it's despicable now. (.... and these are ECstasy girls calling this place a brothel.) so....

Yek- E will let you work 2 nights a week! I only worked 2 days a week during the summer because of my crazy condensed class schedule...

alexxa- you're right, totally... i have been spoiled... i'm grateful as hell, too.... and that's why i've never left- even when it gets slow or the mileage-creeps get annoying, i have to stand back and remember how much i love my club and the reasons why. however- i would NOT worry about 5-10 lbs. You're hot and I know it. :P Plus, there are even some bigger girls (you may not have seen them when you came to audition, but they are there!) but they are beautiful, too, and they do pretty well... some REALLY well.. it's just about hustling.

hehe.... i just wanna work with both of ya so badly! perhaps we can all do some amateur night somewhere sometime.. that'd be fun!

HT is definitely one of the dirtiest clubs in SoCal. There are Yahoo groups devoted to finding out the prices of the dancers' "services" and what some girls allow and such. The reader reviews on Zbone would make your head spin. I know a girl who worked there as a clean dancer and she still made her money but it is definitely very loose in what is allowed.
I worked in 3 clubs in COI and 2/3 of them were straight up whorehouses with a stage filled with illegal immigrants. I didn't last more than a week there, plus it's far from my house too. Not worth it, IMO.

Embyr, You are inspiring me to really get my shit together and just go back to E. It's just hard to pull myself back up by the boot straps (or stilettos) and go back after being rejected more or less. Okay - after my period has subsided, I will return! The worst that can happen is that they don't hire me.

I might try the E next weekend. How are the Friday and Saturday day shifts there?

Alexxa, I'm looking into Portland BDSM laws and such too. You've got my number if you want to call and go over stuff. I don't have much in the way of equipment so we'd have to invest in stuff... but we could rent a cheap studio apartment or something to start out in, and fill it with weaponry!

If you two do that, can I beg you into training me? pleeeeaaaasssseeee?

I'll fill the non-weaponry part of the dungeon with candy and songs of praise!

I think I do still have your #. Somewhere in my old phone. I have a lot of toys, but no furniture right now. Man, I used to have a whole huge dungeon stocked with badass furniture but I moved so it's all gone. The good thing is that I know how to make the stuff again, or at least order someone to do it for us. :P

It might be nice to have an apprentice! I'll definitely have to meet you and talk about it if this all goes down.
