:'( D00d, some of us are living it, or have lived it.

I found it to be a little bit exploitive...But I'm from NorCal so I know how those South Bay punkers roll...

^^^ I can't watch that one because I really, really, really effing hate that song. I loved Green Day way back when, but that slow drawn-out whining they do these days just irritates me to no end. Sucks, because their videos are definitely good!

There have been some awesome videos in this thread! Keep 'em coming! Here's some more I like...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Nd-A-iiPoLg Is just, something I've caught myself returning to in the last couple of months.

Of course, I would obviously pic Metallica's One for just great use of "Johnny Get Your Gun"

I also always think of Type-O's Psychadelic video "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend"

More:

Landscape - Einstein A Go Go (http://youtube.com/watch?v=295U9E5aC54) pre Thomas Dolby

Midge Ure - Breathe (http://youtube.com/watch?v=USFr5VeLQ2o&feature=PlayList&p=3817092D37EA73E8&index=2) the textures, earthy color scheme, the camera rotation and constant movement, strangely soothing

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't Stop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7iiF8U6y_U) minimalist set design with some random punches of color, garbage can backup singers, wormhole

Butch Walker - Mixtape (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bJU3jst3vh4)

...I love you.

Lapaholic mentioned my favorite music video, Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. I still love that video.

Also, Southgang's Tainted Angel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42u6THtPEew Just for the 80s hair-metal cheese factor. And Butch Walker on the guitar. So hilariously bad, it's awesome.

Yes, I have more!

I like a LOT of Missy Elliott videos, but this one is definitely my favorite.

Crappy quality, but I have always loved this video - Pre-surgery Rainbow Kim!!:

I can't forget

Just beautiful:

This one used to make me cry every time:

deserves a mention too.

Still love the Bjork 'Human Behaviour' video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOepheinkCM

'Everlong', by Foo Fighters. I just like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHdwZCVZmg8

most anything by Spike Jonze...um, the Daft Punk one with the dog head is pretty genius, and yeah, Sabotage.

I'm gonna jump in and throw in a warning about the Skinny Puppy video Alexxxa mentioned. It's an anti-vivisection song, and the video is scenes from "Plague Dogs" and then pretty much crazy shots of animal testing. It's quite unpleasant. Just a disclaimer.

Has Bjork made a bad video? They're all pretty awesome.

Just because a thread in Music Mix reminded me of it not long ago, I give you "Rock DJ". (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ-MZUozWqE)

And I've seen it literally dozens of times, and still enjoy it over & over, "Here It Goes Again"! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI)

I'll think of more, I'm sure . . .

(Hi everybuddy! Man, it's hard to catch up around here if you've been away for more than a week!)

*back to catchup mode*
Eek the Rock DJ one is creeepy.

And I'm sorry for reposting Here It Goes Again, didn't realize you'd already posted it.

This band is HUGE in England and Europe, not so over here.....but they are really good...

This video, Knights of Cydonia (http://youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A), is basically a take on 10 different movies, some are obvious some are obscure. I love the song and I think the video was over the top!
That one's going on my "must watch sometime when I'm stoned" list!

+1 on ol' Bjork... She did "IT's so Quiet" live on the Tinght SHow and she was spot on... So much sound from a little body.

What is the Chili Pepers video where they imitate famous bands - via dress and performance style. I remember them acting like the beatles and Buddy Holly and the crickets.

Edit---

Oh and this is cool The Arcade Fire- "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=Iz-WDk7Tbsc

Ultravox - Thin Wall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhx5zPyrsU4&feature=PlayList&p=0F326AE41081889C&index=0) - early 80's attempts at optical illusions

Nu Shooz - Point of No Return (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuTPl8LE-P4) Phantom shoes

Capitol Years - You Can Stay there (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aou9Cc4zAyQ) Lumberjack Pancakes

Tupac & Scarface - Smile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Vk0EL-r8) The camera angles make the guy look like Tupac. At the time this video had a lot of impact because people wondered if he was still alive.

The thing is that most of the bands that I liked when I was growing up, didn't exactly produce the most memorable of videos. The basic formula usually consisted of:

1. The band playing.
2. A hot chick or two (or twenty) baring lots of cleavage
3. Something on fire or exploding

These two stick out for some reason though:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNvOPN1LoQ4

(and they just happen to be great stripper songs...hmmm) :dopey:

Donald Fagen - "New Frontier"

A Cold War era couple winds up romancing in an underground bomb shelter at the end of their date. IMO, the retro feel and youthful innocence of the couple drive this piece...

Leslie Feist - 1 2 3 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8Z-DIAthbM)

That song makes me want to buy an iPod.

A personal fave, that encapsulates seminal moments in my fashion, music, and philosophical developments: Sonic Youth, "Kool Thing" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0OdSoKfTP1k)

I also enjoy the very, very funny "Bad Cover Version" by Pulp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCKzAn0612o)

That Bad Cover Version (great stuff) made me go look for something that I look forward to hearing (and weeping at) every year. The one that started it all, at a much less cynical time, and a Britpop pantheon to boot:

Do They Know It's Christmas (Feed the World). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_SHKsX8p_E&mode=related&search=)

Thanks, Bob Geldof.

Interestingly, there was apparently a remake last year, with current UK music stars (Dido and the like), which I hadn't heard until seeing it in the related links on that page. I'm glad it raised money for the cause, but the song? There's just no comparing to the original. Even Bono singing the same line he soloed on the first time - "Well, tonight thank God it's them, insteaaaad of you . . ." *CHILLS* - it just doesn't hold a candle to the original, IMHO.

Yeah, that "new" version of the Band Aid song was just crap.

Oh wait...videos... um. Coil's version of "Tainted Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo3TUtRnZi4
I think I posted that before, I don't feel like looking. It's from the mid 80's, one of the first videos they put into MOMA in NYC. Directed by Derek Jarman.

Skinny Puppy. In some interview, Brock said anytime he hears a shitty album he compares it to SP's ViViSectVI. No matter how bad it is "hey at least it's not fucking skinny puppy".

I played "Dashboard" one night, and my boss was "Hey, why does this song sound familiar? I know you play it but something..I dunno..the guitar sounds like..." and I went "Smiths?"

Oh, Susan....Greg Dulli is far cooler than Isaac. Seriously.

Oh hell no, sorry, gotta disagree about the coolness and the current output. But he was hotter than Brock in his prime, as in the Gentlemen (http://youtube.com/watch?v=FskfUEfdMn4) video, a most perfect slice of 1994 alternarock.

(do you like how I brought that back around to videos? hee)

edit: OMFG I just looked at a Twilight Singers video and I weep a tear for the harsh death of his looks.

Annie Lennox was your first celebrity crush based on that video? Interesting. I didn't even think it was that sexual. What turned you on about it?

MrChristopher
10-05-2007, 01:44 AM
^I'm not sure. I think I was..11? The whole androgynous thing, the crewcut, her voice, her perfect eyes and lips. It gave me prepubescent wood. It's not sexual, and that's probably what did it for me. I didn't know what "sexual" was, but it turned me on nonetheless.

Susan, I never really thought Greg was hot anyway, but yeah he does look pretty busted. I saw Twilight Singers a year or two ago and they were great. I'm just going to continue pretending that Isaac Brock does not exist. OH WAIT VIDEOS> UH.....let's continue the Annie thing then. http://www.ifilm.com/video/2791472/artist/176310

Well first things first..I gotta give mad props to Mrs. Wayward for her awesome avatar and just making some killer posts lately (think Replacements).

In that vein of retro coolness...I thought I would take the youngins on a trip back in time to see what our childhood was like (could explain the madness?);

My first video recollections....Wot? -

And the still underground ubercool sound of the Lords Of The New Church! -

And of course the video that started it all...for MTV anyway (yes they actually used to play music videos...who knew? -

There's got to be a not-very-nice name for someone who shamelessly references her own post, and I hate to be a whatever-that-is, but after reading Mr. Christopher's Eurythmics post above, I can't help quoting myself.

Did you ever see this, Mr. C?

Ok. I'm-a share a special treat with you. I just found a video of what was truly my sexual awakening. NOT KIDDING.

And I did three whole net searches to find it on! Hope you appreciate my labors ;D

See, I was thinking how much I used to love Eurythmics videos (there are some really good ones, if dated, of course), and how I had worshipped Annie Lennox so, so I watched a few of those on YouTube, and a dim memory emerged of watching an awards show WAAAAYYY back in 6th or 7th grade where she performed in drag, and being very . . . fixated on it. I had taped the show for some reason (probably Michael Jackson related, blush), but this was the part I ended up watching over & over again.

I thought it was lost forever, but lo and behold: Hello, androgyny. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pISsAndOLmA)

P.S. DJ Maimed! May I compliment YOU on YOUR avatar?! Love them so.
