BP#3D- Miami/So.FL History: Pompano Beach Clubs

Rate this Entry
South Florida, when viewed from late night airline flight looks like one continuous yellow blob from Miami to West Palm Beach. In that spirit, I will cover 3 different Pompano Beach club visits over nearly 2 decades.

Cheetah (aka Cheetah III): Scenario- Late 1980's, in new unfamiliar hotel on the beach. One of the first things to do is get oriented. I set out by thumbing through the hard cover in house guide. Before I got to map, I caught an ad by "Cheetah III". This was a first for me- actually seeing a stripclub advertised in this way (all prior discoveries were either newspaper ads in sports/entertainment section, yellow pages, hotel bellman referrals, or by accident.)
I was glad to have stumbled upon the ad. Dancers could best be described as those who could easily dance at MJ Peter Clubs, but liked more laid back atmosphere at Cheetah. More than a few dancers told me they didn't care for the hustle atmosphere at Pure Platinum, and were much happier here. Private dances from the late 80's- early 90's were $10 each, and done on unused stage, maybe some on portable platform.
By the late 90's, Cheetah did regular feature shows on the weekends, plus transitioned to lapdances. One feature doing a lit candle act as part of her show accidentally dripped some candlewax on my slacks- a good case for packing an extra pair of slacks on a trip. An encounter with another feature 5 years later in 2004 was more pleasant- got several lapdances from her for only $5 more than regular lapdance price, as I best recall. Also, after midnight, (at least on weekends), club would roll out a complimentary breakfast buffet. The one constant that held over nearly 2 decades of visits was that club was there to facilitate you having a good time, not looking for little gimmicks to nick you at every turn.

Diamond Dolls- My first visit there in the early 90's wasn't my first experience with the "dollar tip parade", but that, coupled with drinks definitely not being watered down made for a then wallet draining experience.

My discovery of club in early 90's was accidental, since it is located near Cheetah 3. Pompano clubs are more of the neighborhood bar genre, Diamond Dolls was even more so. The potent drinks, coupled with relatively agreeable dancer sitting with me at great lengths, and constant parade of dancers holding open their garter for tips drained my then $100/day ATM card withdrawl limit.

Late 90's: Diamond Dolls sported remodel job, and transition to lapdance format. Drinks were still as potent as ever, but mid part of club was remodeled into a couch room, replete with faux fireplace & fire. All of above lent a certain home-iness to the private dances, which were topless. All was not cozy as I had an unwanted tag team experience there. I am not a big fan of the "tag team" of 2 dancers for several reasons. Main reason being I like undivided attention between myself and desired dancer. I indicated I was finished with dancer #1, and ready for dancer#2. I was barely into new dance when dancer #1 cut in, and started dancing on me as tag team with #2. I didn't want to shove #1 away, or otherwise make a scene, so I stopped after just one dance. (I later got dancer#2 for some more enjoyable dances when #1 was otherwise occupied).

I didn't let this incident stop me from a few more visits that decade. I recall several times walking in there sober with a full wallet, and walking out with a definite buzz, some good memories, and a lighter wallet.

Crazy Horse Too- "Number 3, your order is ready." I'm sitting in a Cuban Sandwich shop near the Miami airport. The Diet Coke I've been sipping has an acidic flat taste to it, but the caffeine buzz is taking hold. After a redeye flight, and truncated nap, this greater clarity is needed while perusing the sports section of local newspaper for a likely stripclub to visit later in the evening. I notice that "Blondage" (Janine Lindemulder, Julia Ann) is the featured act at "CHT". That, coupled with prior "Showgirls" mag pictorial on club dancers ( who looked universally hot) made tonights visit in the late 90's a no- brainer.

Upon arrival at club, interior/format was pretty much South Florida boilerplate: Nude stage dancing with alcoholic drinks served. The two exceptions were (keeping in mind this is 1997)
1) Private Dances- At a time when most clubs had transitioned to lapdance format, Crazy Horse Too/ Pompano was still doing the late 80's format of dancing on portable stools in front of customer. While the price of $10 was less expensive than many clubs lapdances (and nude), this wasn't as appealing as contact clubs. Still, that didn't stop me from sampling a few dances.
2) Female Customers- This was my first encounter with a significant number of female customers in a CONUS stripclub. Up until then, I could count the number of clubs that I'd seen female customers in on the finger of one hand. Those rare cases usually involved a reluctant drag along. Although in the distinct minority, there were more than a few unescorted female customers in packed club. I wasn't the least bit surprised, given the fact that both performers had appeared in several lesbian porn videos.

Once Janine and Julia Ann started, the crowd moved closer in, and enthusiastically tipped, male and female alike. The line for the post show Polaroids was long, with some house dancers eagerly awaiting their turn.

Postcript: A few years later on another South Florida trip, I called the number listed on my dog-earred strip club directory. A detatched voice on the other end informed me that club was no longer operating, and that a swingers club was moving in. With that backdrop, I suspect that failure to transition to a lapdance format caused CHT- Pompano's demise. I don't know how their off peak-hours fared, but I do know where they'd stand on my "to-go list" on non-feature nights. Then being near the beach, nearby commercial development trends could have played a role, too. Anyone who can shed more light on CHT- Pompano closure (late 90's/early 00), please feel free to comment.
