Century Nudes- Driving westbound on Century Blvd. towards LAX, just past Aviation Blvd, I was greeted by ticky-tacky sign proclaiming "Live Nudes". (Great, I thought, as in what kind of club would advertise Dead Nudes??) This was the scene on my 1st business trip to LA in the 80's, sign is pretty much the same 2 decades later in 2008.
1980's-early 90's: Yes, there were (and still are) nude dancers. It was the late 80's that the concept of private, or table dance 1st came into being at many clubs. Century had curtained off 2 private mini-stages. For $10/song, dancers would do nude private stage show inches away just for you. There were regular stage shows, of course. Dancer attractiveness wasn't up to Jet Strip/ Bare Ellegance level, yet pretty much equal to Wild Goose(which was good to begin with). Convenient walking distance location to several Century Blvd. hotels often made club visit a no- brainer. There was no shortage of short lived gimmicks. One twist in the late 80's involved placing a camera or 2 under stage floor to videotape dancers "goods" projected on TV screen. That only lasted a few months.
Present- Inside almost looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the 80's. Contact lapdances are the norm now, only with upselling to $50/dance. YMMV definitely applied. Dancer attractiveness was scattered across the board, mostly midrange. Then, as now, there was a porn shop sharing building, hence must still go through turnstiles. Some things never change.
