dental... questions about insurance/free programs etc
i went to the dentist today for a cleaning, and to get my teeth checked out. i know, i know it's my fault for not going to the dentist for 2 years... but i think i'm getting out pretty well for not attending to my teeth/gum needs.
i love the way my teeth feel now! :) however, i'm not anywhere near done.
here is my estimation from my dentist.
panoramic xray $85
filling 1 surface (x8 ) $130 each
extractions $220 x2
$325 x2
but here is the thing. i am wondering, should i pay in full or get some insurance? my total is $2,215.00. would it be worth it? or no?
also, does anyone know if texas offers any assistance for dental work?
one more thing about my extractions. the only 2 that pose a problem TO ME are the two upper ones ($220 x2) the dentist said he wanted to take out the bottom two also. i don't feel like this needs to be done... that he's just trying to get a bit more $. i was wondering if it would be likely if i told him i just had x amount, that he would just do the top 2. surely he wouldn't say no, right?
Re: dental... questions about insurance/free programs etc
Do you have any dental schools near you? I know they do a lot of cheap, decent, dental work.
Re: dental... questions about insurance/free programs etc
there is a university in beaumont (8 mins from me) i can check!
Re: dental... questions about insurance/free programs etc
i've learned the hard way that if the dentist says a tooth needs to be extracted, a tooth needs to be extracted. otherwise you will just have or develop cavities or some other dental problem in addition to still having to have the darn thing extracted.
Re: dental... questions about insurance/free programs etc
Dental coverage from what I understand doesn't cover much, not like medical ins. Ask around to some friends see if the know a Dentist who will take payments if ya put some cash down. Mine does that. They may have to check your credit.
