A 2 year old greyhound. Interesting things about greyhounds, they often sleep with their eyes open and they are total couch potatoes.
The first is weird, but you get used to it, the second counter intuitive at first. It's track animal that can hit 45mph and bread to race, one would expect they'd be high energy dogs requiring a lot of exercise.
But (and this made me want one all the more as it appeals to the training/physiology geek in me) they are pure sprinters, so they race 1-2 times per week, and rest pretty much the entire time between races.
If she runs around the back yard a few loops, she's tired and want to get back in the house to go lie down. They can sleep 18 hours per day.
She does not even like taking long walks with me so far, but I'm getting her endurance up! I find funny. Here's the muscular uber lean running machine that will whine after 1/2 mile of walking.
A dog who hates aerobics!!! Now what could be cooler then that for a fitness/health guy like me who's never been a big fan of aerobics?

AWWW! PUPPY!!! I love! Thank you for sharing.
Greyhounds are amazing dogs. They're generally misunderstood, and they often have all kinds of health issues due to having been raced and not taken care of (they especially tend to have issues with their teeth).
Did you rescue her? I know you can now buy greyhounds that weren't raised to race, but it still isn't a common option...
Yes, got her from one of several greyhound rescue places. I did a lot of research before I decided on a breed, and the more research I did, the more i wanted a greyhound.

^Dying!!! So effing adorable! And good for you - seriously.
As you can see, she's a total diva for the camera. They are very sweet, quiet, smart, and mellow. To me, the dog for people that are not "dog people." Like a giant cat really, which other greyhound owners will mention.

With her favorite toy which she sleeps with and carries around the house in her mouth:

^That's really good to know. I've never heard that about them being sort of like cats. So they'd make great city dogs, then (smaller spaces with no huge yards).
Will - Don't most of them have crazy health issues?
Not that I'm aware of no. They are not a super long lived breed, but not short lived like English Bulldogs. They seem to live around 10-15 years. Woman who has the rescue I got her from parents had a track and her father was a trainer, so she grew up around the industry. She told me the dogs are generally well cared for (happy healthy dogs will run faster no doubt) and in all her travels, she didn't see anything the looked like animal abuse.
Perfect life? Maybe not, but far better then many dogs experience with private owners.
In the 3 shelters I went to, all the dogs were healthy and happy. They all get vet check up, fixed, teeth cleaned and checked, etc. and the dogs they had coming in from tracks (mostly from the southern states these days) were generally quite healthy and happy, albeit stressed out.
Worst part was really that they had no place to go after their race career was over, and they went to pounds or were killed, but that seems to have changed and they don't last too long at the shelters around here as they are young dogs with generally great personality.
First dog I wanted, was gone next day when I called to say I'd take him. Do yourself a favor, find a greyhound shelter and go visit one just to meet some of those dogs. I think you'll enjoy it. :)
They are truly the dog for those not typical "dog people." Like cats, you have a mutual relationship and they need to get to know you before they will show their personality as a rule. They can be very shy. They like a quiet house and relaxed people like they are. They are super emotionally sensitive and can get their feelings hurt if you yell at them and wont talk to you all day.
They have no issues with small spaces, but not sure about the city thing only in that cities can be noisy scary places, but hey, getting adopted into a loving home is still better than sitting in a shelter...
But, you'll never see such a muscular dog so freaking lazy!
Happy to get you more info if interested. They are really amazing animals and like them "greyhound people" also seem to be a unique breed I'm noticing as I meet more of them.
