i've been thinking lately that i hate banks and i want to close my checking account. every bill i have can either be paid with a money order or cash.
my only concern is how would this affect my taxes in april.
any advice would be appreciated.

Why do you hate banks?
Banks suck and hit you with fees. Go to a credit union.
I like having a checking account because I can easily prove payments made. It's not done so easily with cash or money orders.
Again, go to a credit union. Fuck banks.
high fees, like stray stripper said, they'll hit you with all kinds of fees.
straystripper, i used to have a credit union, but i got out of the military and they didn't have a branch near my hometown so i had to close my account. i talked to some girls at work and i'm going to not have a checking account for a while. just cash and money orders for me.
If you pay for EVERYTHING cash its ok. If you want to finance anything like a car or rent an apartment.... they typically want you to have checking/savings (even if theres nothing in it)
I have ZERO fees and I'm reimbursed for all ATM transactions.
Go to usaa.com and see if you're eligible for an account. I LOVE it. Since you make cash you'd have to exchange it to money order to deposit by mail but, you get interst on checking and savings and starting investment accounts = piece of cake.
I love my bank and wouldn't bank anywhere else.
