How can I send a soldier a package for the holidays ?
Being here in Hawaii, where there are military personal and retired/vets everywhere, really reminds me of the war and our troops in Irag and Afganistan. I'd like to send a package or 2 to a needy soldier/s. I think there might have been something about it in the past..Can anyone tell me what I need to do and what organizations really are on the up and up ?
On another note there is a local gas station that is giving military personal and anyone with military i.d 10 cents off each gallon of gas they purchase..That's real ! :) I haven't heard of anything like that in my area. Most of the bases like the Presidio, T.I, Alameda and Moffitt field are closed..I think only Seaside, Beale and Travis are the only ones left in Nor Cal.

You're in Honolulu, right? You might be able to contact someone on the base at Pearl Harbor and ask them. My friend from high school is stationed there... I'll ask her for you.

Cool, thanks..I found this http://www.usocares.com/src/uso_home.htm
The pkgs are only $25 ! I thought they be way more.
Do you remember what was inside of them, was it something the soldiers actually liked/used ?

Sorry, it's been a long, long time ago... but I was excited to get and very appreciative
These USO Care Packages at minimum, include requested items such as pre-paid worldwide phone cards, sunscreen, travel size toiletries, disposable camera and a message from the donor thanking them for their service and sacrifice.

I just saw that. Okay cool, thanks for responding, too bad there isn't any food or extra goodies in there. I know that would be on the top of my list if I was in their shoes.
Re: How can I send a soldier a package for the holidays ?
actually if you read the testimionals on that site, the soliders replying mentioned goodies!!!
Hi Lisa and all the staff of the Operation USO.
I just wanted to send a thank you for making me feel so special and at home.
I was returning back to the field of Iraq from being home on R&R and I was
feeling kind of dry. It is never easy leaving your family.
I want to thank you all for really caring and coming from your heart to make
what we need available to us.
I want to thank you for the care package you all have given out. There were
lots of things in it that I really needed. The snacks of course are always
on the top of the list.
Well all I wanted to say again is that you made me feel real special. Will
you never think that you dont make a difference. Every smile, every hand
shake, every shoulder touch, none of it is going unnoticed. Alot of times we
just dont take the time to thank you like you should be thanked but I am
sending this note to let you know that you touched me.
Thank you for all you do and have done.

When I worked at CH2 in Vegas, thye had a bunch of girls take pics and hand write letters to soldiers. They also included CH2 calendars and t-shirts, passes for free admission, snacks and toiletries, and magazines. A bunch of the soldiers sent thank you notes and pictures of them! They were thrilled to hear from some strippers, lol. You shoulda seen the smiles in their pics! IDK what channel they went thru to send the package, but maybe you could organize something like that?

I didn't read them..I'm multi tasking and I have 17 windows open.
Thanks for posting that for me though, the last one made my eyes water..I could REALLY feel her gratitude. I might have to give a few of my friends coal this year or send a package in their name. :D Reading that makes me want to send more than 2.

Actually I missed it unfortunately. I only popped in to work when I happened to be in town and was sick of the rhino. But it was really cool and I wish I had been able to do it. They had a poster board up in the hallway with all the letters from the soldiers and the pics they sent. Some of the guys were hotties and some girls had some guaranteed future custies, lol!

I just found which looks great too. You can choose one of five organizations that support the troops and their families, and donate commissary gift certificates. They can use them to buy groceries at any U.S. military commissary in the world.
