Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Does your salon charge you or someone you know extra money because they have longer hair? I got a nice little surprise when I went up to the hairdresser today and went to pay my bill and it was higher than usual, even though I didn't get anything different from the usual. The lady tells me, "Your hair is getting long and now we charge for hair past a certain length."
I'm trying to understand, but I'm like WTF? Sorry my hair is growing, but I come here every fucking week!! They do the same thing to my kid sister, but they charge here even MORE because she has hair almost to her ass.
Is this the norm in most salons?

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Yup. Try having knee length hair. They charge out the ASS.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Depends on what they're doing to it. My hair is pretty thick and it was waist-length when I wanted a perm (in high school), and they charged me double for the perm because it takes so much longer and requires so much more of the chemicals and supplies. The prices should reflect the cost to them.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Yup... (I own a salon too btw) ;)
BUT if you are a regular client then we arent as strict with those rules. If a new client comes in and she has hair to her ass, then we charge more because obviously it is more work, more product etc...

Lexi, I think I was bothered because I come EVERY week faithfully. I get a deep conditioner and all EVERY week. I spend a LOT of money there. Maybe that's why I'm irritated

Thats what I mean... Thats not cool. If it were a new client it would be different, but we wouldnt do that to any of the regulars ESPECIALLY if its weekly that you go there! Thats an easy way to lose someone. :( How much more did they charge you, if you dont mind me asking?
btw - You have every right to be pissed. I would be too!

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
It was $10 extra, which isn't too terrible, but goddamit that's another $40 a month!! I'm working part time right now and I'm trying to budget here!! I'm so annoyed.
-
Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Yeah that would still bug me a bit. :( Even if it is only $10... they should have looked it at that way too and been like "Is it worth $10 to possibly lose someone who is in here all the time?"
Sorry it happened to ya though. That always sucks!

But I got charged double for a haircut because my hair was too long. It was a dry cut. For charity. They didn't even have to get rid of the hair. I only needed the girl to cut the ponytail off for me, then trim up the ends so it was even.
I think the charges depend on the salon, though. I've been to many places where I didn't get charged more for having thigh-length hair.
WOWWWWW :( I cant believe that.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
That sucks, especially since you're such a faithful customer. My nail salon does the same stupid thing!
I'm trippin' that you have a salon that's open on Sunday though!

Good for you though!

I agree you where wronged. They should have told you first. This way you could have passed on them, or at least have known.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
It is a piss off in general. I don't dare go to a salon for a color anymore because it costs an obscene amount of money.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Well you are lucky your hair is not long, thick and curly. They charge for how thick your hair is also! They consider it more work. It takes two hours for them to do my hair. So yes I pay an arm and a leg each time, I go to the salon. I am to lazy sometimes to blow dry my hair straight.
I know at some salons it depend on the stylist and how often you get services. If they are to cut you a deal. Why dont you try bargining with your stylist about a comfortable price. That will keep both of you's happy.
Tell her you will come X amount of times. If she gives you X amont as a price. I just cant believe she did not tell you about the rules. When your hair was approaching the limit at hand.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
I think besides exra time spent doing longer hair or having to use extra product they are jabbing us long hairs because they know we're not in as much as those with maintenance hair. And if you go there every week they should be dismissing that fee. Look elsewhere.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
Well that sucks, but what they do to men is worse. Get too long.... they just butcher it, so it goes uneven.... I'm about 4 weeks over due, and dreading going, 'cause even when I keep it short they still butcher it.
Maybe I should just grow it out... lol :) with thick and curly... nah, then I 'd have to get a trench coat and scarf.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
My salon charges by length of hair and experience of the technician too. But I like that because I request the most experienced technician available, I dont like apprentices touching my hair unless it's just to wash it.
But as a loyal customer that's very bad customer service on their part.

Re: Paying more money at the salon for longer hair?
I've never been surprised by being charged more for long hair. And for real, francesca, you're going to the salon every week anyway, your monthly bill probably makes that extra $40 a month a small percentage.
Anyhow, was it your stylist or someone else who rang you up? I agree that you should be getting a little good-regular treatment, but if it wasn't your stylist giving you the bill maybe they weren't thinking like that. Talk to her and see if she'll work out something with you.

I of all people should have guessed that. I don't mess with the salons though, the hair dryers they use (with the protective ear thingys) are wayyy too hot.
They make my caco feel like roasted con flei.

No, it was the woman I regularly go to!! The owner told her to charge me for the length. If I was new, I would be more understanding, but seriously, as I said before, I'm regular money, so I'm annoyed.
Yeah, it's only $40, but at the same time my job doesn't start for a few more weeks, so I'm trying to hold on to some of my money. (The reason I am still getting it done on the regular is because I've been having so many introductory luncheons with different people in the company and other professionals whose brain I'm trying to pick.)

:rotfl: That's one of the reasons I always get a deep conditioner. My has grown like crazy because I stopped putting those chemicals (relaxers) in my hair and just get a deep condition and blow dry every week. I wish I had a before and after pic to show you.
You still comin' to see me soon? }:D

Oh, well, that wasn't cool at all. You should totally say something to the owner, then.

Yep, majorly!^ Which is why I now touch up color & cut my own. I have always been charged more for having longer hair.
But, I agree they should have told you up front.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. She's a regular paying customer. Not just someone who is fly by night, comes in every few months. I would express my distaste with them. I think they would much rather keep you as a client, than lets say lose you over a extra $10 charge for longer hair :-\

She totally should do that.
If they dont budge, then its up to you if you want to go back. :(
