Re: Decisions decisions...
Congratulations. And a lot of people bloom in university. If you want my suggestion (shut up - you are getting my suggestion. Although I guess I can't stop you from stopping reading. So go ahead. Forget it) don't worry about what you want to be when you grow up. Take a few general arts courses - you need breadth courses anyway, for anything, it's not wasted time and see what you gravitate to - like the kind of scholarship you enjoy and the kind that makes you annoyed (I didn't like philosophy - sorry molly.) If you want to do marketing you might consider York - they have a marketing degree that offered entirely online, but it's not like the commercials you watch late at night - real school, you know? And for your traveling schedule, that might be useful
Re: Decisions decisions...
Maybe take some classes that interest you to start with. I decided to go with Nursing School since I can basically get hired anywhere with it and I LOVE to travel. I had to take several prerequisite classes before I qualified.
You'll love being back in school....just make sure you give yourself time for study and for rest. I've managed to balance two jobs and go to school, but dancing makes it so easy to pick and choose my days off:p
Re: Decisions decisions...
Yea I was thinking just taking the odd class here and there to get me back into the idea of school.
I actually want to take an English class and a French class... just cuz they come in handy in life lol.
Also a few others as well to see where im going to excel at.
The thing that scares me about marketing is the whole math side of it... numbers and I have the mutual understanding that we just don't like eachother lol.
Re: Decisions decisions...
You're smart my wife. You will really do fine, as I've told you before, you can be anything you want to be, esp. if you apply yourself! And shit, I have my degree and I still don't know what I'm going to be when I "grow up" aka retire from dancing, but that's a long ways away for me. In any case, im happy for you with whatever decision you want to make!!
Re: Decisions decisions...
Make sure to check the job market for the major you are pursuing. My journalism degree hasn't gotten me too far, and I've heard the same from other journalism people.
When I started out I wanted to do want I loooooooooveed, but once I hit the job market I started wishing I'd thought more about the money.

I know quite a bit about both. Feel free to PM.

I'll sheepishly admit that I don't have a J-degree, but I've been working as a full-time journalist, bureau and, now, EIC since 1982. Actually, my ex has a J-degree from Northwestern, which is what brought us to Chicago back in the late '80s.
Regarding Andygirl's post. Yeah, journalism is going through a lot of changes right now--print especially. On the other hand, it's a great profession for people who like smart, verbal, somewhat ADD-ish people. I've made great and lasting friends in this career of mine.
Re: Decisions decisions...
Wow, good for you. This could be just what you need.
Re: Decisions decisions...
If you want it bad enough Cally, I know you'll get it.
Re: Decisions decisions...
I agree with people sayign take a few general classes just to get an idea. You'll probably need thoes types of classes anyway. A general math, English 101, stuff like that.
As for not doing well....Cally, I failed in highschool and was thrown out.
Even though I never did well in higgh school and failed out, I have consistantly had straight A's in college. Because I want to be there.
There are programs in place to help you if your struggling. Liek free tutors and stuff. I use the math and spanish tutor all the time, and it helps a lot.

Re: Decisions decisions...
Good luck to you!
I'm in the same boat. I would like to go to school eventually, but really have no idea what I'd like to take and am a little scared. I think I may look into York's online classes. I also thought of doing UofT's mature student program, which I may still do, but the essay writing is what I fear.
At least you'll be living at home so you don't have to worry about living expenses and will be able to devote more time to school.
