do you monitor your earnings?
So, it's come to light that some people just don't track their earnings. I'm a humongous dork this way; i chart and graph my earnings to see what i've earned, what night of the week, how many hours, if there was an event (say football home game or something), and of course my weekly and monthly totals. I calculate out my averages per day, per hour and per week at the end of the fiscal year, and it gives me great pleasure when one year is better than the previous.
Do any of you do this? Does it motivate you? It definitely does for me!
MODS: this might belong in dollar den but i thought here was best, you decide.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I do the same exact thing. I can tell you how much per hour I made without tips, with tips, without base pay for shifts, how many tips I got to the dollar, how much it averaged if you minus my expenses... everything. I think it's fun! I actually kinda look forward to doing it. Although I wasn't THIS anal until the start of the last financial year, I kept a small eye on it. Now I have customized graphs and spreadsheets and even receipt booklets with each envelope having a list of my deductions right on the front. How dorky!

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Yep i am exactly the same too!! It's great coz I can work out averages and monthly totals etc.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Wow, I don't do that much. I have a day planner and every day that I work, I write down which club, how much I made, and the mileage I drove to get there. That's it though.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I just write the date, how much I made, how much I padi to the house. I want to start doing a little more with it though.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I use a spreadsheet I made on excel to record my earnings. It's easy to see weekly and monthly averages, etc.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I use a day planner where I write down who I worked with, anything that happened that day (fires, world series etc)., how much I paid the house, and lastly how much I made. Then I do monthly totals. Thats about it though. The rest I manage with Microsoft money.

You forgot how much each regular gave you.
Yes you are a dork. I think you started this thread because it kills you that I don't even count my money at the end of the night half the time. I just put it in the money pile and then count the whole wad when I go to the bank. I figure it all goes to the same place and I'm not going to work harder if I write every detail down. At the same time, my mind is like a vault for certain historical information. I mean, I know the reason that our Halloween and NYE parties were worth going to last year is because there were games. I think that is important to keep track of.
I know that my average and earnings are up from last year. I can just look at my bank statements and tax payments. :-\

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Hah, that is exactly what I was thinking, Chrissy and Emily must have had a conversation about this last night.
I keep records too but more since I travel.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I'm pretty bad about it and do what Emily said. I kinda just come home and throw it in my jewelry box and deal with it later. But I've never been very responsible. I keep some in the box, most in the bank, and just kinda go with the flo.

She had a conversation about it. I just listened.
It's not like I'm irresponsible about it. I just don't know each and every excrutiating detail! Just the important stuff. Like what I need to pay taxes on and key mental notes that factored into the night being good or bad.
It's just my method and it works for me. Everyone that's worked with me knows that I'm plenty motivated, because no matter what I have on a spreadsheet, more is always better.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I kept track of how much I made each night when I was working full time last year, and calculated weekly and monthly totals and averages. I haven't been doing it since I went part-time this fall, but I should start again. It *was* motivating.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I have a pad with all of my earnings in it for about 8 years back. of course you can put it on your computer, but it is quicker for me to just write it down after work.
Date, Hours, Location, Earnings (after tip out), Dances and Misc
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M10/22/07 5-1:10 club X $317.00 19 dances
T10/23/07 5-1:00 club X $207.00 11 dances
W10/24/07 5-1:05 club X $155.00 8 dances
T10/25/07 5-1:15 club X $395.00 22 dances
F10/26/07 5-1:10 club X $255.00 16 dances
S10/27/07 5-1:15 club X $415.00 23 dances
S10/28/07 off (total dances-99)
Weekly Totals- $1744.00+$400.00 base pay=$2144.00+ (regular Z $500)
I start every week on Monday ending on Sunday, and if a new month starts in the middle of a week, I don't start the new month until the following Monday. My Nov will start on 11/5 and end on Dec 2nd.
I will do my October monthly totals on Sunday, and make a Monthly total line under this weeks weekly total one. At the end of the year I add all 12 months up and put a year end total at the bottom of my charts. I then make a chart with all the clubs I booked during the year, write down what I made each booking and do an average weekly earning and daily earning per club. The clubs where I average the most money I book regularly. The money i receive from the daddy regular I separate as it is not fair to include that in my nightly totals when I didn't sell dances to get it.
This way I can look back to last year or earlier and see what I made during the same week, I can track my dances per club, etc.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Holy Sh*t ^^^^
I have no clue. My moneys monitered by my bank deposits. Horrible, I know.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I use excel to keep track of nightly, weekly, and monthly totals. I note the days of week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) as well.
I like doing this not only for accounting purposes, but to:
a) Compete with what I earned last year.
b) Look at how I did at the same time last year when I have a shitty night. More often than not, it was shitty then and I don't feel so bad and beat up on myself. I can pass the blame to the season.
c) Have proof that the industry is not in the toilet. My earnings have been consistent year after year.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I do it too. I put down the day of the week, what time I got on the floor, how many VIP hours I got, if I got it myself or if someone else hooked it up for me, sometimes I'll write down what I wore, which customer I had in VIP and my grand total, then my take home total, my tip out total and if I sold any promos (hats, t shirts, etc.) and then I do a daily average, and a monthly average and I also have a YTD (year to date) total at the end of each monthy, my grand total, my take home total and how my tip out total for the year. I enjoy doing it. Maybe next year I'll get more anal and have grafts and everything. It's bad now, I have all my money in order all night with the bills faced up and in numerical order. Anal, I know but I love it. You should see my apartment, I have everything labeled! :0

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I track my earnings, sadly I've been in an ever escalating downward spiral since August.... Lame!
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
i keep pretty close track. An Entry would look something like this.
Hotties 11/1/07 9-2:30
240$ VIP/Dances
82$ Tips
-50$ house fees/tipouts
-17$ cab
255$ net.
And hten I have a seperate calandar in which I write the net above teh date, and my weekly goals on Sunday, as well as whether I made the previous goal.
Keeps me motivated. Plus, its easy to see when I do my monthly averages, I an just enter it right off without skimming through the excess information.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I used to write down my daily earnings and tipout on a calendar. At the end of the week and month add everything together.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Aw shit, I never write down what I tip out. It makes me feel bad. I worked in two clubs where I could expect to tip between 25 and 60%. I do not need to be reminded how much I "gave" away.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
Can I nominate myself for the big dork award too???
In addition to keeping track of my daily, monthly and hourly average returns aaalllll the way back to my first day of dancing Oct 30, 1999...
I can also look up:
How much I tipped out the bouncer on Nov 2, 1999
What I paid the cabbie on Feb 20, 2002
What percent the house took of my funny money on July 15, 2003
How much I tipped the new VIP host up front to send guys my way on Sept 30, 2003.
AND (most importantly) what percent of my gross earnings these expenses represent.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I just put it on the calendar, and then at the end of the week and month I do totals and daily averages.
-
Re: do you monitor your earnings?
not at all. Usually I only have a general idea of what I made. The way I keep money drives my anal boyfriend crazy. My money is in a wad in my purse all balled up. I never know exactly how much cash I have, only a rough idea...sometimes 'm way off.
When my club took half of what we made and paid us out at the end of the night I kep track of my VIP's and dances just to make sure I was getting everything I was owed and not being fucked over. I did this by writing in lipstick on the dressing room counter. -$10LD, $75CR
Atthe end of the night I would wipe it off and start over the next day.

Re: do you monitor your earnings?
I do what Lena does. I LOVE making Excel spreadsheets, though. Maybe I will.
