Need ideas for a b-day party gift for a child
A friend of mines child is turning 1 in two weeks and I have no idea what kinds of things are best to get a child of that age. I'd like it to be something useful and helpful. I asked what the girl needs and the only response I keep getting is oh, she really already has everything she needs except a bathtub- but my friend told this same thing to everyone, so I'm sure someone else will buy the tub. I want to get her a cool present but I know nothing about babies. Anyone have ideas for me?

Babies are still, well, babies! They don't need much other than the basic stuff and a few toys. Maybe a savings bond for the future? Or some sort of keepsake with her name on it?

Oh, I like the savings bond idea! It's really original AND practical since te kid can't grow out of it or get bored with it. And they'll appreciate it when they're older.

Savings bond along with some kind of little age appropriate toy or clothing.

I like the savings bond idea or name a star after her - so original and is always there (even if it isnt REAL)... then frame the certificate all nice :)

how about giving the mom a gift certificate to use? (e.g. toys r us, target, sears, macy's, etc.)
that way she can get whatever. it's a bit cop-out'ish but you did ask and she gave a vague answer. at the very least give her enough so she can go and buy a tub that she wants/personally prefers.
i'd hate for you to actually get it and there's four others with tubs there.
those colorful educational toys are nice but she could have the same one already, etc.

How exactly does a savings bond work, and how much do they cost? Also, any other ideas about cool toys. I really liked the keepsake one with her name on it.
