4 Toddlers Test + for Cocaine
Surprised this hasnt been posted - I did a search so if it has, sorry.
"
Four toddlers of a Houston family tested positive for cocaine, including twin 11-month-old boys, after police said nurses became suspicious when one of the twins showed little pain despite a fractured arm.
Parents Emanuel Jones, 43, and Tammy Lynn Melton, 25, have been charged on felony counts of child injury and remain in jail. They were supposed to be in court Friday, but that was rescheduled for later this month.
Both parents, officials say, tested positive for cocaine and antidepressants and were arrested late Wednesday.
Authorities said they are unsure how the children ingested the drug.
“The children, just somehow, must have gotten a hold of the parents’ cocaine,” said Estella Olguin with Children’s Protective Services. “Because the children who tested positive were two 11-month-old twins, a one and a half year old and a two and a half year old. The parents also have one-month-old twin girls and they didn’t test positive.”
All of the children have been removed from the home and placed in foster care, authorities said.
The parents were arrested one week after taking one of their twin boys to the hospital with a fractured wrist. Nurses called police when the infant wasn’t “showing the pain reaction a child should show,” Gardner-Sanders said.
That same child had bleeding of the brain which officials say may indicate abuse, but both parents deny hurting their children.
Jones, Melton and the eight children lived in a bug-infested, one-bedroom apartment in northwest Houston, police said. An invalid great-grandmother also lived with the family.
Jones and Melton both remained in Harris County Jail late Thursday on charges of injury to a child by omission. Melton's bond is set at $20,000, and Jones' bond is $5,000.
It was not immediately clear Thursday night if Jones and Melton had attorneys.
Officials say the pair could face more charges. "
Let me just say theres MUCH more to the story than this article.
The children had been removed after 3 investigations and places with their invalid great-grandmother who let mom and dad to move in with her and 4 NEW children. Way to protect the children. They had the CPS worker on tv too and she really couldnt say much except she hadnt checked on the case in over 2/3 years. It was considered closed. Oh and all together there were EIGHT children under the age of 6.
