Gahhh fackin' telemarketers!
The Hubby subscribed to Playboy. No biggie. Then we started getting calls about how he qualifies for free subscriptions for other magazines, blah blah blah. They have called 5 times so far. They only call in the late evening--I'm talking 8:30pm all the way to 10pm, which is way past decent telemarketing hours. And we're on the freakin' DO NOT CALL REGISTRY. I know that technically since we started a service with this company, they are allowed to call us until we ask them not to anymore...read on.
They got his name wrong the first 3 times (it's an uncommon name which is commonly confused) and hung up when we said there wasn't anyone by that name here. Then one of them gets smart, actually reads the name correctly, and gives him the shpiel. The Hubby waits for her to take a breath, says that he's not interested, and (at my urging) says that it's far too late at night for us to be receiving telemarketing calls. (It was 9:45pm and he has to be up at 6am every day.) The girl actually says "Well, it's only 4pm in Hawaii so it's actually NOT too late. Have a nice day!" and hangs up on him!
But it gets worse!
Got another call last night. I worked the past 5 years in telecom businesses so I know more about the lingo and SOP than The Hubby so after the last call, I had told him that if they call back (even after we said we weren't interested), he should let me have the phone so I could try to get this settled. She calls, he listens long enough to tell that it's them again, and hands the phone to me. I wait for her to breathe and say "Hi, this is X's wife. We've asked to be taken off this list and I'm wondering why we are still receiving calls?"
She has the unbelievable GALL to say "Well, X's wife (yes she calls me that), it's because your husband is not man enough to tell us himself. So we'll just call back. Bye!" And hangs up on me.
I'm beyond fuming. All I want is to get off this damn list. I'd report them to the "Do Not Call" registry in a heartbeat because we've asked them to remove us and they have still called us, except that I don't know the name of the company--they say it so fast that we can't make it out.
I can not believe that any company's operators in this day and age would be sooooooooo rude! Do they not have a Quality Control dept? Do they not care that their Customer Service Reps are using that kind of belittling, abusive language with their customers? We are going to ask for a supervisor right off the bat next time but I'm almost afraid they won't have one or will just hang up when we ask. We just feel powerless, which is the worst part. It's basically harrassment. OMG. Just thinking about it makes me want to scream.
Rant out. Hopefully all the bitterness is purged. Has anyone else ever had a shitty situation like this? What would you recommend?
Re: Gahhh fackin' telemarketers!
I occasionally get this.
If it irriates me, I just gently put the phone down and leave them talking to thin air while I get on with reading a book.
I've heard them burbling away for 5 minutes or more before they realise there's no one listening to them.
Passes the time....
Phil.
Re: Gahhh fackin' telemarketers!
Does anything come up on caller ID? Can you block the number or call them back? I'd call the phone company and report it and maybe call Playboy and tell them what's going on and maybe imply that you will prob. cancel your subscription because of them selling your number to someone. You might be able to file a report with the BBB for evil practices as well. Or at least when they call, tell them you're recording the convo for quality control purposes. }:D
Companies get away with this stuff because no one complains. I'm totally a vindictive crazed b*tch with this sort of thing.

We're having a similar thing lately. Someone keeps calling about resort vaction packages or some crap we could care less about. My partner already told them that we're not interested, as well as let them know that the number theyre calling is a cellphone, since we have no house phone. He asked to be taken of their mailing list but they still dont listen and he's also called back the number that shows up on the caller id and i believe it rang for a long time and they didn't pick it up. As of now it's still unresolved. i told him just to ignore the damn phone, but he's stubborn.
Re: Gahhh fackin' telemarketers!
Scream bloody murder into the phone. After a few times, they should know better. Gotta do it a few times so that you get a chance to fuck with a couple of them so they can warn each other, and eventually maybe they'll give up.
Just a thought.
Re: Gahhh fackin' telemarketers!
If you report it, the company has to pay a huge fine. Like ovr $100K. Be proactive and get someone in trouble! I actually have to go through training on this periodically to make sure I never call any prospects that had not specifically requested I call, and it still has to be within certain hours and on certain days. Of course I work for a large, ethical company that does not telemarket or cold call. Other companies may not give a shit because they have not had to deal with consequences.
Find the source and report them!
