Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
Hi guys,
My mom told me to research the plane ticket costs for flying home to Tucson for Christmas, so I checked out Priceline and Orbitz. Looks like the best deal I can find on those is About $300. It's kinda sucky though because..
The returning flight has me going from Tucson-> Phoenix->Las Vegas-> Sacramento
This is all late at night so I get in Sacramento at 1:36am and THEN I still have to drive home to Lakeport about 100 miles away.
Anyways the dates are 12/23-12/31 and I need to go from Sacramento to Tucson.
What do you guys get?

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
what are the dates that are you looking to travel?

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
It's in the OP ;)
12/23 to 12/31

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
$288 with Southwest.
If you move your departure date to the 19th you can save $50.

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
True, but I'll already be gone a week, and I will have been working in a brand new job, so I don't want to ask for too much time off right away.

:P All "guys" get what they pay for. Those dates are peak travel dates, so if you don't like stopping/changing planes, you'll pay more for non stop. You did not mention if this fare was advance purchase, non refundable, if not, doing that might save you $$. If you're willing to tweak the dates a few days or so on either end, that may be worth looking at. ;)

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
I like kayak.com and mobissimo.com for airplane fares. Kayak is usually the best and they have lots of tweaking options.
Good luck!

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
I'm willing to tweak the days to a point. The 18th was a bit too much. I want to stay a week, and be there when my mom comes home from Wisconsin on the 28th.
And that rate was for 2 stops, so I didn't even both with nonstop. Too pricey and I don't care that much.

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
There's a whole bunch on expedia for $241 connecting in phoenix.
Here's whatme and Matt did when we came to Vegas from Pa.
He got the price from expedia and called priceline and said, Expedia did it cheaper, but I prefer to book through you, can you go lower than them?
Priceline went lower. So then he called expedia back and told them priceline went lower, could they do better?
he went back and forth between 3 different companies bargaining down, until he couldn't get anyone to bargain any lower. We got round trip from PA to vegas for 2 people for $300, including 5 day hotel.

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
I saw the $241 flights, but that was before you added $51 for taxes and fees.
-
Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
If you change your travel dates to the 24th to the 1st, the average price for a nonstop flight from sac to tus on expedia is ~$260 (that's including the taxes and fees)
eta: although I've never heard of Express Jet Airlines (which is the nonstop flight one)
The other option (usairways) makes 1 connection in phx for the same price.

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
Thanks for posting this - I need to get my own ass in gear on Xmas tickets to Colorado as well.
It weirds me out a little bit to fly when I'm pregnant, but I see women with bellies on planes all the time - it'll be okay, right? :-\ At least by that time I'll be out of the "Is she pregnant or just pudgy?" phase. I know I shouldn't care when total strangers give me The Look, but I can't help it. Anyway.
Off to Expedia first! I may check out Cheapoair after that - never tried it before.

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
^RW, I checked out cheapoair and they were still more expensive than expedia That $215 fare had taxes and fees of over $90. Plus I looked up my own travel route and it was more expensive than what I got on expedia. Still, it doesn't hurt to check them all before you pull the trigger because you just never know where you're going to get the best deal. In my experience, travelocity and expedia always had comparable fares, yet last week when I checked flights travelocity was a couple hundred dollars more!
Anybody who is planning on flying this holiday better get your tickets asap because the fares aren't going to get any lower; They'll just get higher and less dates will be available. I got my tickets last week (thru expedia) :)

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
...cheapoair domestic fees were about $65 on a $215 fare, overall cost similar to expedia. The price today is about $240 on cheapoair and travelocity it's about $248. It does seem to vary somewhat day to day. I guess being savvy, such as Kaylinn did, would help. There is also http://us.lastminute.com

Re: Need to find a great airline ticket deal!
Anyone know the rules for purchasing an airline ticket for someone else after 9/11? Dad says he's not sure if he's allowed to purchase a ticket in my name from his CC.

He can. I've bought tix for family members, they've bought tix for me. Companies by tix for their business travellers, etc. Its fine.
Personally I think that should save some money by getting a one-way ticket and not going back to your loser husband sitting on his ass at his mom's house. :-\

That was not the topic of this thread and I don't appreciate it.
Thank you for the relevant information :)
