Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
What a fun thread!
Okay, I've been going to concerts since I was really young and I spent all my after school job money on tickets. I'm going to have to do this in shifts.
This is the early to mid 80's shift:
Van Halen
Journey
Billy Squier
The Ramones
The Cars
Blondie
The Go Gos
The B52’s
The Alarm
Styx
Pat Benatar
Joan Jett
Def Leppard
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
The Police
The Eurythmics
Billy Idol
Adam and the Ants
Adam Ant (solo)
Belouis Some
Bon Jovi
Kiss
The Psychedelic Furs
PIL
Wang Chung
Tom Petty
The Who
Bruce Springsteen
Zebra
Ratt
Motley Crue
Missing Persons
Asia
Pink Floyd
The Rolling Stones
Keep in mind that I have probably forgotten 5 or 10. :)

^^^
Pink Floyd - HOw could I forget that one! Yeah, they were excellent.
I WISH I would have seen The Ramones...how were they? Time to fire up some Ramones on the iPod...
-
Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
Oh fuck. I forgot about Patti Smith - my best friend and I had DREAMS about her for a week afterwards.
-

Death Angel
Iron Maiden
Ozzy
Plasmatics
Guns N Roses
Deep Purple
Aerosmith

Bullet Boys
Kix
Yngwie Malmsteen
Anthrax
Metal Church
Killer Dwarves
Vixen
Megadeth
Living Colour
I know there’s more and I’m sure I’m missing about 20 more big bands. I can’t even count the hundreds of local bands I’ve seen. My parents watched my kids every weekend and Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights I was at a club seeing a band.
Back in the mid to late 80’s most of these bands (except the huge ones) played smaller venues.
Criz, The Ramones kicked ass. Was there any doubt?
I'm not going to say which bands were good and which ones weren't unless asked because there's just too many to think about.
I'll do the 90's tomorrow.

Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
I really should go through that box o' tickets upstairs. I know there's a ton missing though, from either me losing them or from getting in free so I didn't get a ticket at all. Public Image Ltd opening for INXS was a bizarre pairing that comes to mind.

That is a weird pairing Mr C! I don't even remember who opened up for PIL when I saw them but I believe it was the Beacon in NY (don't hold me to that one).
I don't have a lot of stubs either due to a loss of memorablilia in a move and also, when I saw bands at clubs, I usually got in free or just paid and got my hand stamped.

Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
Given some of the groups I see listed, there are some old farts around!!!
Here are some of my recent ones. .. and a few I remember.
Billy Joel- This year - Great Show
Lyle Lovett - Last Fall - acoustically perfect and small theater
Roger Waters - Pink Floyd - This year Big show - Best ever
Neil Young - Green Dale .... indulgent
Neil Diamond Last Year -- Classic Performer
Jackson Browne - 3 years ago as a solo --requests from the audience. Intimate but with no band they all sound alike.
The Ramones - 1982 in a music hall ... I wanna be sedated.
Fleetwood Mac -
Elton John
James Taylor - Last year in a music hall Great show.
America
Kenny Rogers
The Eagles
Carly Simon
Hall & Oates
Tina Turner - 3 years ago on her "last" tour.
And some others I have forgotten.
-
Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
Add PIL, Skid Row, and INXS to my list.

It can be our special little secret that we won't share with anyone! It can only get better if you have some tight red satin pants like Leif wore in concert!

Whoa...I remember them...I even had a couple of Shaun Cassidy albums...oh...the humiliation...

What's worse...having the albums or seeing them in concert?

Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
I have forgotten a lot. What's really sad is I hardly see musical acts any more. I should try to rectify that. Perhaps a New Years Resolution. Let me see.
Hall and Oates with General Public (my first real concert!)
Kiss with Ted Nugent (During Crazy Nights tour - awful. But lots of female nudity!)
David Lee Roth with Poison (No Billy Sheehan though dammit!)
Def Leppard with Queensryche (Queensryche too damn short!)
Sugarcubs with Living Color and Godfathers (Met LC and Godfathers and watched Bjork backstage with them)
Branford Marsalis
Stanley Jordan
Bob James
Spyro Gyra
Yes (Union tour which was just awful)
Rush with Mr. Big (Yes, Billy Sheehan!)
Garbage (First live performance!)
Jazz Butcher
Smashing Pumpkins (Almost died of heat stroke)
Cracker (Several times!)
Soul Coughing
Ben Folds Five
Billy Bragg with Robyn Hitchcock
And more Robyn Hitchcock
Weezer
Goo Goo Dolls (Ick)
Beck with Cibo Mato (A top five concert despite disappointing Cibo)
Beck at Horde Festival (Again excellent)
Beck solo as Sea Change tour (Most excellent!)
Neil Young
Morphine
Los Lobos (With a contra bass sax that literally rocked the room)
Elton John (Free concert and surprisingly good)
Love and Rockets with Dandy Warhols (Very loud!)
The Sundays (Man, I was bored to tears)
Wilco (Totally awesome in the front row)
Son Volt with Bettie Serveert
Man or Astroman? (I knew Coco in college)
David Byrne (Yup, no Heads, but still excellent)
Pixies (The reunion - man it was sweet)
Jayhawks (Excellent and from Minnytown)
Semisonic (See above)
Soul Asylum (Yup!)
Steely Dan (Bliss!)
Prince (That recent hits only tour - totally cool but didn't see The Time!)
Roy Haynes
Sonny Rollins
Keith Jarrett
Laurie Anderson (Twice)
David Bowie (Too short, but awesome!)
Bauhaus (Reunion tour)
Aphex Twin with Luke Vibert (Made my ears bleed! Plus giant teddy bears!)
Drivin and Cryin (Surprisingly in my top ten list.)
Sting (Soul Cages Tour)
Okay, I can't think of any more but I know there are several I've forgotten.

Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
It's hard to remember them all, but I'll try to start from the beginning......
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
John Mellencamp
Georgia Satellites--opener for JM
Danzig--first concert I snuck to, Danzig punched someone in the crowd and to this day I will run into people who claim to have been that guy
7 Seconds
Some sort of Monsters of Rock show that I can't remember the bands, but I want to say Megadeth and someone else.............
Morrissey--what else can I say? lol
Nine Inch Nails
Womad concert in 1992:
Sinead O'Connor--basically a dream come true for me
Lenny Kravitz
Peter Gabriel
The Spin Doctors---and we met them, lol!
Beck
Morphine--merely months before the singer died
Lollapalooza 1994:
Smashing Pumpkins--bleh
Beastie Boys--awesome
George Clinton and Pfunk Allstars
The Breeders
L7
Lollapalooza 1995:
Sonic Youth
Hole--good show, but CL was a mess, of course
Cypress Hill
Sinead O'Connor---a dream come true again, but the Lollers weren't respectful and the sound quality was bad
Beck
Coolio--hell yeah, lol!
Lollapalooza 1996:
Metallica
Soundgarden---Amazing, but for some reason Chris didn't see me
The Ramones
Waylon Jennings--bizarre, and the fans were throwing plastic bottles around and James Hetfield came out and warned them to settle down or he wouldn't play. He was acting like someone's dad, but it was still awesome.
Lollapalooza 2003:
Jane's Addiction--acted snobbish, a real disappointment because I had waited years to see them
Audioslave--again, Chris didn't see me:-[ ;D
Incubus
Queens of the Stone Age
The Donnas--way better on recording than live, they don't sound like they know how to play their instruments
The Distillers
Stone Temple Pilots
White Zombie
Pantera
Ted Nugent
Wyclef John-----in JAMAICA---awesome
Some hip hop festival around 1999 or so:
Lauren Hill
Cypress Hill
Tribe Called Quest
Ricky Martin--shameful, I know, lol
Rob Zombie solo--Human Dead Girl album
Marilyn Manson--right after Columbine, there were protesters and everything, very good show, amazing stage effects
Fleetwood Mac--reunion tour
Ozzfest 1998:
Ozzy Osbourne
Tool
Megadeth
Limp Biscuit--fuck off
Motorhead
System of a Down
Ozzfest 1999:
Black Sabbath
Rob Zombie
Deftones--overrated
Slayer
Primus
and a bunch of nu-metal lameasses
Ozzfest 2001:
Black Sabbath
Marilyn Manson
Slipknot
Nu-metal lameness
Black Label Society
The Foo Fighters
Common--twice
Erykah Badu--twice
Jazzfest a few years back:
Shaggy
Patti LaBelle--as close to a religious experience as I've ever had
Suzanne Vega
Sarah McLaughlin--2x solo
Lillth Fair at least twice--which means I've seen Sarah M. at least two more times and probably the Indigo Girls as well........not especially memorable
Sheryl Crow
Jewel
Concrete Blond--amazing
The Allman Brothers Band--3+ times
Some big metal concert at a stadium in Kentucky somewhere:
Metallica--except James Hetfield broke his leg or something and the losers from the other (shitty) bands sang for him, I thought there was going to be a riot. It was funny though because the other members of the band were all drinking and acting crazy--as if their dad was away. Again, Hetfield=dad figure, lol.
Korn--actually pretty good for nu-metal shits
Kid Rock--sounded like someone singing bad karaoke
MOTORHEAD--fucking amazing and I love Lemmy
The Hellacopters--violent crowd full of rednecks, who'd a thunk it?
Clutch--twice
Toxic Reasons
Peelander Z
The Pixies--reunion show a few years back, kind of anti-climactic
The White Stripes--shitty live show, but I still like their albums
The Scissor Sisters--amazing, and I met the band and they were incredible
Comedy Shows:
Jerry Seinfeld--7th row!
Kathy Griffin--hilarious, but a little annoying
And I know there are a zillion more I'm forgetting, mostly obscure punk and metal bands and shows where I was too drunk to remember.......;D

WOW! You guys are some concert-going fanatics! :D I've only seen one concert in my lifetime. :-[ I saw "No Doubt" in Hawaii. I really enjoyed it. Gwen Stefani was even more stunning in person (we were really close to the stage), and she really knew how to pump up the crowd. Loved it!!!

Thanks for typing that out AG!
For my 90's to today list take all of Andygirl's Ozzfests and Lollapaloozas, add in Woodstock and Family Values Tours and count the fact that I've forgotten at least another 10 bands, at least, and there's my list.
Whew! I should calculate how much time I've lost doing something constructive by going to concerts...
-
Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
Hm I forgot to add the bands i've seen at warped tour but really none of them were that memorable for me it was philly/camden warped tour 2003 i think..no one impressed me.
I am jealous of all you that saw Depeche mode. This thread makes me want to go on a concert binge.
-
Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
I went to Jay Z tour where R Kelly was supposed to tour with him. R Kelly cancelled so he wasn't there, but I got to see TI (sigh), Ludacris, Mary J Blidge, Lil Scrappy, And a bunch of other people.
Mariah is AWESOME in concert. She is so talented and beautiful! I went to her last concert...can't wait till the next!
I'm going tomorrow night to see the Christmas Transiberian Orchestra concert. For anyone who is a fan of theirs, I'll let you know how it goes. It's supposed to be a very very good show.
Oh I saw Chris Cornell at the Big Day Out in my city- Atlanta. He was really good in concert too.
-
Re: Who have you seen in concert? How were they live?
OH GOD...here we go (*some of these are really funny and you can laugh. I've only gone to a few concerts of my own volition. Usually I stumble upon free tix or someone drags me or whatever.), in approximate chronological order:
Julian Lennon (was my first concert. I really enjoyed it, but I was 7.)
Rod Stewart (Enjoyed, but was about 10)
Hootie and the Blowfish (Did not even enjoy. Not even at 10.)
Procol Harum (Don't remember)
Jethro Tull (People fucking love their Tull. The audience was the best part)
Rolling Stones (Srsly? You need to ask?)
Collective Soul (I hate this band)
All at Woodstock '94: Metallica, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan lots of others...
Green Day lots of time (always great. Make fun of me.)
Blind Melon (a week before Shannon Hoon died. Best show I've ever seen.)
The Melvins
Toadies
John Mellencamp
Black Crowes
Everclear
Blondie (uber meh. time to take up knitting, Debbie)
Live
Frank Black (meh)
Queens of the Stone Age (pretty good)
VHS or Beta
Shiny Toy Guns
God, lots more. I can't remember. For someone who hates going to shows I've gone to lots and lots.

I saw Cornell with Soundgarden in a tiny rock club in Madison, WI. Just as Soundgarden was about to hit the bit time. What a voice...in the words of Henry Rollins..."He could peal the paint off a wall."
