How Has Stripping Affected You?
We all have that moment of where you realize "Stripping Isn't Normal". It ceases to amaze me of how much I've changed since walking into this industry, and sometimes I wonder if those changes are corruption, or just experience as I'm exposed more and more into the world of the adult industry...
Does anyone else get these sort of thoughts?
For example,"wow the me before such and such years ago thought this was bad or said I would never do this..."
I don't know maybe I'm just thinking too much because I'm having my breast augmentation surgery 5 days from now (yay);D ...to me it's a plus...confidence in myself and part of the norm in dancer life...but i realize...it's not normal...I mean you hear about it all the time at work but not in your "other life"
Also the money factor, sometimes we take for granted how much we make, and don't realize how long it would have taken working a reg job
*sigh* What do you guys think?:O

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
* I don't care about seeing naked breasts and womens bodies, I'm much more comfortable with my sexuality and other's sexualities.
* I really don't trust men or women. At all. I used to be sooooooo naive and trusting people, now people earn my trust and I still don't give it fully. Kind of jaded that way but at least I'm not as naive.
* More bills! More money, more bills, but at least I don't have to stress. If I need money for extra bills I know I can always work an extra day shift.
* It's always weird to me sometimes, when I'm up on stage...sometimes I'm like hey, I'm up on stage in the middle of a night club....practically naked. WTF!!! How did I get here? But I'm happy where I'm at.:)

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
*I'm healthier. I watch my eating and exercise, and I feel much better physically. I've lost 4 dress sizes and I have more self-confidence.
*I don't take shit off of people anymore.
*I get my partying out of the way at work and am then much more appreciative of the quiet times in my life.
*Money, and the security it provides. I can always work an extra shift if I need some more money.
*I get to lead a double life, and I love it! During the weekends, I'm the hot, sexy stripper, and during the weeks, I get to be the "soccer mom". (I live in a small town and work in a nearby town, so nobody in my hometown knows what I do except a small handful of close friends.) I get to do "room mother" stuff at my kids' school, and I have time to cook and clean and sew and take my kids to the library and playground.
*I have co-workers that really will go out of their way to help each other out. Granted, I do have some girls that I won't trust for a second, but most of the girls I work with are great!
I've only been doing this 9 weeks, but I still love it!

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
I know myself a hell of a lot better.
I have learnt a lot about life (A LOT!)
I have travelled my own country far more than I would have if I did anything else thus I have been able to enrich my life in that respect...
I have met some really wonderful people who I call friends due to this whereas I doubt I would have otherwise ... and I'm not just talking about people within this industry.
I went to Las Vegas all by myself
I am more assertive.
I'm also more cynical and do have trust issues esp. when it concerns guys and dating.... I havn't had a good proper boyfriend since I started this business.
I'm more comfortable about sex, nudity and all that jazz. Thus I'm more comfortable in my own skin and appreciate my own inherant beauty.
It isn't all :) as there have been plenty of experiences that were not positive that I wouldn't wish anyone to experience. I've been screwed over so much by people within this industry.
The most important thing I take with me at the moment from working this business is that it afforded me the option to be able to give my (late) cat Bibs everything she required in her illness. I see how much my flatmate struggles with his diabetic cat currently that I am very appreciative of how I had the money due to this business to not have to struggle with Bibs.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
After 6-7 years of adventures and misadventures...
*I'm proud of myself.
* I have the $$$ means to fix my debts and invest for my future in ways many people my age don't have...I feel lucky.
* I'm grateful my job helped me see half of my family's true colors. I won't waste another word, dollar or second on a group of manipulative controlling assh*les such as they are...
* I have the confidence I didn't have a kid.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
I've been dancing since I was really young. I didn't have an adult life before dancing that I can look back on to know what I would be like without it.
-
Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
*I am more assertive and I stand up for myself. I don't take crap from anybody.
*Less naive than I used to be. More intuitive, and I pay attention to my surroundings and my feelings more than I used to.
*I have a thicker skin.
*Stronger, healthier.
*Bigger wardrobe, nicer car, supporting child not a problem.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
I have a harder time getting turned on.
My knees make alien noises when I sit, stand, turn, etc.
I'm very aware of ALL of my body parts and can sense when someone is within 4 inches of them..
I hate wearing make-up now.
Buying underwear is now buying work clothes, totally took the fun out of that one!
I don't take BS from anyone now.
I have a rolodex of snappy, bitchy, snarky comments at my disposal, ready and waiting.
I can manipulate people at will. It's scary.
All in all, stripping was/is god for me. I like the person I grew into as a result of it. But I'm not so sure I'll like the person I'll become if I stick around it too much longer. If I could go back to when I decided to start, would I still do it? Yah, I would. I'd just start saving a lot earlier.
My biggest complaint about it right now is that being sexy and seductive is related to work, and that bothers me since it has an effect on other non work areas of my life. Still sorking that one out.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
- it confirmed my earlier opinion that 'all men are pigs' LOL
- it taught me that time stands still for no-one, thus I should always take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves
- it proved to me that the way the world 'really' works is very different from the way I was taught the world was supposed to work !

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
I feel encouraged and secure about my future, because I know it's really right for me--found my calling, haha. Lots of the things mentioned in this thread, for better or worse, already were the case for me for the 3-4 years I didn't dance. Would have made my life so much easier! But now I know I can make good $$ without changing my viewpoint on the world--that's pretty assuring.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
*I got to travel, something I never would have done otherwise. I love knowinbg that I can show up in just about any city in the country and have a job in under two hours.
*I know how to put on make-up.
*I don't have the desire to go out so much anymore which saves me tons of money. I'd much rather stay home and read.
*I can talk to anybody now. Literally just walk up and make friends. Before I started dancing all my friends I either met in highschool or through someone I met in highschool.
*I have the drinking tolerance of a large Russian or Irish male (although probably not after the baby's born). It's probably not the best life skill but it is fun to know that when I do go to the bar I can look at that big guy and say with confidence 'Yeah I could drink your ass under the table.'
*I'm flexible enough to do most of the positions in the Kama Sutra.
*I can actually AFFORD to have the five kids I've always wanted.

I can absolutely relate...the third quote was my exact thought that made me start this thread
even with the manipulation, before dancing I was good but now it comes even more easy, I try to never do it my regular life even though it can be very tempting at times}:D
*sigh* Lingerie shopping is not as fun as it used to be:-\

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
Goods....
I'm confident
I can talk to anybody about anything
I spend a lot of time with REALLY rich men, and I feel equal to them and well everybody where as before I was intimidated by $
I'm happy....love my job
I meet REALLY cool people out in Vegas
Bads...
nothing shocks me anymore. A dude can grab my boobs or whip his dick out or , blow his wad in his pants and tell me about it, and it's like no big deal.
I'm cynical about people
I'm spoiled and have no interest in finishing school or getting a straight job. I promised myself at 18 Id quit dancing at 25, which I am now, and now I'm like I'll dance til they don't pay anymore...

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
I'm much more confident. I was never really good at being social with strangers, now I can talk to anybody with ease.
I talk alot less shit from people.
I actually have a decent amount of money to my name now and wouldn't go into super panic mode if my transmission went or something like that.
I don't have to depend on anybody anymore. I could get up and leave today if I wanted and I know I could make it.
It's not as easy for me to get turned on sometimes :(.
Sometimes I don't WANT to be turned on. I just want to do it myself and don't tpuch me please.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
GOOD:
I'm a lot more confident in all aspects of my life. Once you've been naked in a room full of people and the center of their attention, it's a lot less scary to approach people, apply for jobs, or generally make an ass of yourself. Once you've been a dancer, you can do anything!
I have a lot of free time. I don't work 60 hours a week like some of my friends for very little money.
My husband and I had an incredible honeymoon we never would have been able to afford otherwise. We were also able to buy a nice house, although getting the loan was tricky.
Although money gets tight sometimes (North Idaho is NOT the best place to dance), I never worry too much about it because I know I can come up with fast money if I really need it.
I realized I'm kinda bi and have had awesome lesbian experiences. ;)
I met the most incredible friends.
BAD:
I am such a man hater. I love the men that are already in my life, but when I'm in public I get extremely uncomfortable around men. I'm really bitchy when I get hit on, too. I don't trust them and that sucks- they're not all bad.
I have seen some crazy stuff.... every once in awhile, I really miss my innocence.
I told too many people! If I could go back, I only would have told a few friends, definitely not my big-mouthed sisters-in-law (they actually found out by accident) or most other people. I'm not ashamed of it, but they act like it's such a huge deal- it's annoying.
My parents would be devastated if they knew. They just don't understand and it sucks keeping such a big secret from them.
I can't change my look too much because I only seem to make money with long blond hair.
This has RUINED me for "real" jobs. I've worked two sales jobs since college, relying solely on commission, and they sucked. I'm looking for a job now, but it's so hard- I can't bring myself to work for ten bucks an hour when I know I can make so much more dancing.

Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
Similar to what everyone else has said,
I'm more assertive
I've lost weight, and kept it off.
I can drink my 230 lb husband under the table.
I have absolutely NO sex life anymore. (that kinda sucks)
If it was possible I've become even more of a cynical smartass.
I'm much more comfortable with my own body.
I've learned alot, sometimes I almost think ignorance was bliss, but either way I'm nowhere near as naive as I used to be.
Heres a weird one, when I'm not at work I'm likely not wearing underwear, it annoys me.
I couldn't care less about putting on makeup to go to the store.
My tolerance for pain has increased. (shaving every day before you found wax)
My 4" heels at home feel like bedroom slippers and I can't walk in flats to save my life.
I groan thinking about a 'real job'.
I was able to buy a nice house, support my family and my kids get the things they deserve.
I have no shame, whatsoever. (after getting bored in a dead club and doing the MC Hammer dance on stage, whats left to lose? Dignity, sanity? Ha!)
Innocent and naive men have become absolutely adorable. When you blush when I say boobs, that just cracks me up.
I've also learned some of the weirdest secrets of the universe. Hairspray holds up thigh highs, keeps your feet in shoes, medical tape saves your toes when breaking in new shoes and anti-perspirant is awesome on razor burn. Who would have thought?
Oh and now I really hate Nickelback.
-
Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
Why do you hate Nickelback? Just curious...
-
Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
Lisbeth, your post was hilarious on so many levels. :rotfl:
But I could never stop loving Nickelback.

It's the other girls not doing the song justice that bugs the crap out of me! When *I* dance Nickelback (fave song: Rockstar), I'm all over the stage, kicks, head-tossing, attitude, shoulder stuff, etc... I play with that song, which is why I always beg the DJ for it, but the other gal who likes it and asks for it just sits in the middle of the stage and makes her boobs go up and down (which is an impressive trick, but I prefer to see some action with such a fun, upbeat song).
Just seems to me like a waste of a perfectly good song...

Yeah, she ain't doing my song right. I fuckin' LOVE "Rockstar", and the video is awesome!
But yeah, I get mad when girls just like play with themselves/make boobs bounce/do something lame during an awesome song. Like, if you're gonna dance to "Personal Jesus", do that shit right, or I'm gonna have to let the Puerto Rican come out. :wife:
-
Re: How Has Stripping Affected You?
Mmmmm. Personal Jesus! I haven't heard that in a minute! I loved that Nine Inch Nails song ....Head like a hole, black as your soul. Y'all know the one. Great performance song, but I digress.
I feel like dancing has been a crash course in men and freestyle performing. I feel I can take on any social situation and make friends in any town!
