Ok....oddly coincidental
I was thinking about the fact that my advice column has gotten no responses and was cruising craigslist for gigs....
I found one that said..."Blonde Needed to Write Advice Column" (the site would be DearBlondie.com)
How freaky is THAT????
I'm emailing back and forth with this guy now and he wants to meet up tomorrow to talk about it
This is his last email:
"Hi Cameron,
I am a web developer who collaborates with talented and marketable people to create advice and informational type websites. The websites serve as a promotional tool for the content writer while at the same time generates income from the ads that run on them. Therefore I am not only looking for talented writers, but also people who have the ability to drive lots of traffic to the website which I would create.
You can check out some of my other sites below:
www.AskaFitnessBabe.com"
What do you guys thnk??

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
I think it's fantastic. Can't hurt to look into it further, right?
Yay!

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
I'd check out he's who he says he is. If he's a business he should have a registered office and a phone number. So, he should have no problems giving you his address and a landline to ring.
I'd start by asking him how the income side of it works - i.e. how much does he make and how much do you make.
I'd also start enquiring about contracts for doing this - I'd be keen on knowing my legal obligations if I signed up to doing this.
Phil.

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
Yay Cam! It'd be great if this panned out for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed, and yes, it can't hurt to check it out a bit, if all you're putting into it is a little time and effort. It could lead to something else even better or turn into something great!
Good luck!

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
It's fate. I totally believe in that. And I've never personally asked you anything but I've definitely lurked, and you give great advice :) Go for it!

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
I was just thinking of bumping your advice thread, funnily enough! This sounds like an awesome opportunity, good on you for doing your research. If it turns out to be legit definitely go for it....you'll be a hit!

Re: Ok....oddly coincidental
:D :D :D How great is that??? Seneca, a Roman philosopher who lived shortly after Christ said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” Abraham Lincoln later spoke this quote. I think it's fate. ;D
Also, Phil's advise sounds really good to me too.

Good luck.
I'd strongly suggest getting information from the guy on how the financial side of it works for you. If your website to be generates income from the ads, that suggests he's being paid by each click on an ad. That means he knows how much each click is worth, and hence he should be able to give you a scale of payment based on the number of clicks you generate.
I suspect you could end up investing a lot of time in this, and you want to be sure you are getting paid acordingly.
He may want you to sign a contract also. It's worth getting that checked before you sign it. Ask for 24 htrs to think it over.
You want to be sure you know things like:
(a) What period of notice he has to give you, if he decides you're not right for his website?
(b) What period of notice you have to give him if you want to stop?
(c) Whether he or you is legally liable for the content on the site? (Biggie).
(d) How quickly you're meant to respond to each post?
(e) Is there a sensible maximum of posts you have to respond to each day, or do you have to respond to each and every one?
Your "Ask Cameron Key's" column on SW suggests you'll be good at this, but you do need to think about the fine print of what you're getting into.
Phil.

OK the site is
PHil..I'm right there with you hon!! It IS a click on ad type thing that generates the income. We split it 50/50.
(a) What period of notice he has to give you, if he decides you're not right for his website?
We have pretty much shook on the deal already..he bought the domain name we settled on today and is beginning to build. As soonas the site is built..he submits it to Google for approval..as soon as it is approved, we sign contracts and we're off.
(b) What period of notice you have to give him if you want to stop?
It is an open ended contract for the moment. If either of us decides it isnt working for us we can back out. He owns the domain name...I own all content.
(c) Whether he or you is legally liable for the content on the site? (Biggie).
Content is 100% mine. I am responsible for it and I own it so if this doesnt work..I can take it elsewhere...cant take the domain name though, he owns that
(d) How quickly you're meant to respond to each post?
thats up to me...but since it is all about how much traffic we get to the site that determines how much we make...I'll be doing it as quickly as I can
(e) Is there a sensible maximum of posts you have to respond to each day, or do you have to respond to each and every one?
I dont have any minimum OR maximum. Again..content is up to me. Ideally..I will be posting enough to keep people interested, but not too much so they are overwhelmed
I've signed enough contracts by now to know what to look for, but I will still be having my lawyer go over it before anythign is finallized.
I dont expect to make a lot off this....but it will hopefully be a fabulous start...if it works...in 6 months or a year I can pitch to other publications with a solid record and following.
I'm really excited about this!! I'm getting a very good feeling from it.

Ok, I'll stop trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs - your lawyer will do a far better job for you than my on-line advice. ;)
But good for you for being careful. (Me, I can be far too trusting sometimes).

Hell, go for it. If you don't do it, you'll always regret not doing it.
And the very best of luck...
Phil.

LOL...not very I'm afraid...but I'm hoping I can fake it!
And it isnt Dear Blondie anymore. We talked and I thought it just didnt have enough openings for products(ads) or anything else and I didnt want to be so limited. Now the site is:
So I can talk about everything from beauty products(you bet I'll be pushing LUSH!), hair, fashion, industry info and gossip...LOTS more to talk about(since it wont ALL be advice)
I'm also thinking about doing weekly specials with readers: Joke of the week, model hopeful of the week...that kind of thing so I can be interactive with my readers(and hey...maybe one of the model-hopefuls will get something out of it too...so yeah for helping!)
I also want to ask all of you who have questions on my Ask Cameron Keys thread.....I'd like to start off with some of those until we get enough traffic coming in that I have peple sending me new questions.
Please let me know (you can PM me) if you do NOT want yours used. I will change all names and any personal info regardless.....but will still not put your up if you say no.
Thanks to you all...you guys gave me the confidence to try this!!!
