Re: Dancers claiming right's to songs
when lil wayne's 'lollipop' came out, all the girls wanted to dance to it. and the djs have this rule where you can only play the same song once per night. since the song cause such a commotion, they refused to play it for anyone. until one girl tipped the dj $40 before her set so that she can dance to it.

Only exceptions to the rules(How I did it):
MGR's "like" the song, and dont want you to play it for anyone else but them(sorry, they're your bosses)
Dancers hooks you up BIG TIME(meaning some serious scratch), and tell you"DO not play this for anyone else but me". $$$$ talks, and although I might like you as a person, you've never given me any shit, or anything else, unless you're willing to top whatever she's given me(which I'm almost certain you will not), you won't get it played for you.
I always used to say shit back like" Really? you're song? did you write the lyrics? Are you getting a royalty check from it? I didn't see your name(insert here) in the writing credits, therefore, it's not "YOUR SONG", IT'S MINE...pick another song, sit down, or deal with it".
Hmm.. if your concern is the cost of the music, which defines your ownership of the music.. why should a dancer hook you up "BIG TIME" to make it hers? Don't songs only cost a dollar on iTunes? I mean, you didn't write the songs, either. }:D
Re: Dancers claiming right's to songs
I agree with those who say if a dancer brought in music, that's her song. This was awhile back, (when CDs were the common thing in clubs) but when I danced at clubs I brought in my own music. If another danced to my songs I was livid. I choreographed my sets to particular songs so everything was planned. Then again I never danced to top 40 (I was strictly classic and current alternative).

Dont I as a DJ have to play your songs, regardless of wheere/how you got it? YOU bring it in, for whom to play? The DJ correct? Unless YOU want to DJ, feel free to "own your song".
Re: Dancers claiming right's to songs
I was always good friends with most of my Dj's and helped set up a list or rules,
every girl makes a list of her top 100 songs if a song appear on several of the list then it goes into rotation and by order of who's been performing longer or who makes te most money
Hire girls who have differnt tastes if too many girls are fighting over the same music then whats the point why have 20 clone dancers
Don't let the girls pick ask for the type of genre and u choose they don't get any request unless its specialtie stuff thats not heard daily ie techno or European
Re: Dancers claiming right's to songs
i just dont play that game any more. if a dancer says "thats my song" i simply tell her that i pay for l yearly permit to B.M.I and to other music mafia groups for the right to play this song so if you want to pay that for me and do all the paper work that goes along with it then i can be you song. and when i tell them the price they tend to shut up and tip me a little better.
Re: Dancers claiming right's to songs
Ugh. annoying. In my club we can repeat music if we want to. It is somewhat problematic though because some girls will play the same stuff over and over. One played the exact two songs every time she went on stage (twice an hour for 8 hours) for what seemed like months. probably still does, i just haven't worked with her in a bit. That's just ridiculous and should not happen. But it's ok, i think to repeat a song once or so in a night. SO. because we can repeat music it really should not be an issue. And yet i still got the "you are dancing to the party monster soundtrack, that's miiiiiiiineeeeeeeeeee!" ok. so i stopped dancing to it when she was working. If she isn't working she shouldn't care if i dance to it. Then i bring in a song from that same soundtrack "frank sinatra" which i have loved for ages and she didn't upload and what do you know, she is dancing to it. *sigh* i bring in music and am flattered if other girls dance to it. eh. right. so i think in a club where a song can only play once it is reasonable for a girl to have dibs to a random song she got the club. It is less reasonable if the club repeats it's music. And it is not reasonable what so ever for her to not allow anyone else to use it when she isn't working!
