So what can I do with thi sstuff (moms and costco)
My motehr is obsessed with costco and buys really random and weird shit there. Today she calls me up and is like "oh, I bought you some things from costco, they'll be in a big box right by the front door" Anyway, I go get it, and it's like 16 tiny cans of canned mushrooms, 8 cans of greenbeans, 8 cans of diced tomatoes, and a giant thing o fkalamata olives. These are such odd purchases. I'm not even positive what I can do with canned diced tomatoes, I usually only put cherry tomatoes in salads, or eat big ones as snacks, but never canned. I always thought canned mushrooms were nasty, what can I do to disguise the taste. What am I supposed to do with all these random sides. I know what to do with the green beans, but what about the otehr two. I also got a GIANT thing of toilet paper, so, go mom!!! I hate tp shopping.

I'd give them to canned food drives. Seriously, canned mushrooms? ewww!

Definitely donate. But if you don't want to do that...you can still revive the canned mushrooms. Drain them well and pat dry, put them in a pan with some onion and butter and add to an omelette. Or just add them as is to spaghetti sauce, drained of course.
The kalamata olives are wonderful on a homemade pizza. Use a ready made crust like Boboli, spread on some pesto, add feta cheese and the olives. Broil until bubbly. YUM. They also are great in Greek Salads.
The canned diced tomatoes are great for taco toppings or in homemade salsa. Try adding them to Mac and Cheese (one of my faves).

^ I agree with everybody else when they say donate.
The canned tomatoes are really good to have in the pantry for quick pasta sauces.
I really, really hate both mushrooms and olives though.

My mom does the same thing!
Give them to your local foodbank.

Donate, or make spaghetti sauce.

Have you ever gone to www.allrecipes.com? If you cook it's a great resource. You can do an ingredient search on there and you'll probably come up with some interesting and yummy recipes. I use the site all the time and love the fact that there are so many reviews of the recipes from other cooks who've tried the recipe. Chili, green bean casserole, pasta dishes, quiche, are just some of the things you can do with your ingredients. Anyway, the ingredient search on that site is great.

^Yes, I was going to say... do a search for some interesting recipes with them. Also, ask your mom what she thought you should do with them (maybe she'd use them if you don't). My mom gives me random things too... I guess it's a loving-mom thing... Always thinking of us. :) Aw. :)
Re: So what can I do with thi sstuff (moms and costco)
I know you all are trying to be nice by saying to donate the stuff, but if it's something you wouldn't want then why would poor folks want it either? I can just visualize the food pantries............canned mushrooms, saurkraut, canned asparagus, carrots, and other vegetables that have no business being canned....spam..........I could go on and on...........lol.........sorry.
I don't know about the rest of the stuff, but I'd eat those kalamata olives straight from the jar. I love those suckers.

I think canned mushrooms are fine on pizza...
Re: So what can I do with thi sstuff (moms and costco)
Mmmm olives are good. I don't know about the other stuff but olives are great to keep around when you have guests over. Most people like them and it's a good quick fix entertainer.

So, just because you don't like them, no one else would?
I can't stand canned mushrooms...but I have friends who love them. I have friends who can't stand sauerkraut...but I love it.
If you don't like something, give it away. There is BOUND to be someone who would love it.
Re: So what can I do with thi sstuff (moms and costco)
I'm doubting that the majority of poor people who are getting food that other's have given away are getting the good stuff. I could be wrong though. I hope I'm wrong.
And I love saurkraut too, but it has to be served with certain things. You wouldn't just eat it as a side dish for a meal. If a poor person gets stuff they don't like it probably goes to the back of their cabinets much like it would go to the back of ours.
Re: So what can I do with thi sstuff (moms and costco)
I buy the same thing 8x, b/c I forget i own it.
So when the donation people come by, the things I'M giving are obviously things I like, and have a surplus of. Otherwise it wouldn't be in my house.
who the hell has a bunch of food lying around their house that they don't like to eat ::)
