Starting dancing again...
Ok it's been over 12months since I last did a lap dance and even went near a pole on stage and I have an audition tomorrow!
I am worried that my natural way so to speak will have vanished and I won't be able to get back into it.
What does everyone else think, has anyone else returned to dancing after such a period of time?:O

Re: Starting dancing again...

Re: Starting dancing again...
I feel ya, i wanna start again but i keep procrastinating.
i should call the club, but i hate using the phone in another language

Re: Starting dancing again...
I'm hoping to go back too. I'm a little concerned about my confidence levels but kinda excited as well.
As they say, hindsight is the clearest sight and with some time off I think it makes it easier to see what your good points were and where you went wrong. Armed with this it should be easier to start again, remember when you first started? You didn't have the knowledge behind you.
You never lose your mojo, never ever. Sometimes it's hiding but it's never lost.
Just like getting back on a bike ;-) (I hope)

Re: Starting dancing again...
Lets hope so!
I know my strength has gone in my arms so I won't be able to pull any moves off on the pole, so I will have to just smile and try to look graceful.
Isn't it weird how we all go through this mindset when in reality we had no problem doing it at the time, it was......well........natural.
I will let you know how I get on tomorrow.
As for those of you that are not sure, why not give them a call and audition, I'm going with the thought of "If it doesn't feel right or natural then it's no longer for me"
:)

Re: Starting dancing again...
Good luck!
I know what you mean about strength, I have bugger all flexibility now and it's scary, but it'll come back , just like I developed it the first time.

Re: Starting dancing again...
wow - didn't realise there were a few of us in my shoes!
My procrastination and enthusiasm is stopping me but I am dying to go back! I was thinking about the $$ last night and it all looked so good but then I thought it would be too hard and what if I clash with the new manager? I don't want to walk around in a g-string to try make money but at the same time, I am not a gown type girl ... GAHHHHh

I sumtimes go 3 to 4 months without working.. I know thats not as long as going a year with out dancing, But.. I was nervious too and didn't think I would be good on stage or know what to say to customers.. But as soon as I go up on stage I don't feel nervious any more and I feel glad to be working again :) ..

Exactly! After my break of over a year I am now a better dancer than ever. It really took getting out of it for a while to think about what I was doing wrong.
Go back! Once you get in there I agree its like riding a bike. The nervousness was gone as soon as I walked in the doors.

I didn't return to dancing, but I did return to the strip club workplace as a server. I did this because I had always liked the fun atmosphere of working in a strip club, but I hated actually being a dancer because I hated dancing on stage and even more than that I hated the way the job was a high-hustle sweet-talking "sales" job(some people are great at it and I respect them; but I know that I'm not good at those things).
Okay so anyway, when I went to apply to clubs as a server, it had been over half a year since I'd stepped in a club...and the first thing that struck me by surprise was how dark the place felt. When I worked in clubs before, I was very accustomed to the dark lighting of the club and the harsh black lights. But after not being around it for a while, the clubs seemed darker than I'd remembered and I wasn't used to the lighting.
In the first few months that I was dancing, I took a 2-week vacation. When I came back from my vacation, I felt a little out-of-it since it'd been some time since I'd been to work. But after the first hour or two, it was like riding a bike...I soon fell into my stripper persona. If anything, I made bank the first week I came back from vacation! This is because I felt refreshed and not burned out, so I was actually able to have fun at work, which helped me to sell more dances and get tipped better.
So if I were you, I'd give myself a few days "adjustment period" to get back into the swing of things...and you'll probably do great! Customers often like new faces and getting dances from a girl they haven't seen every single time they go into the club. Good luck and I hope you make a lot of money!

Re: Starting dancing again...
It's been since September for me, but I've taken long breaks like this before. It really is like riding a bike. I have an audition on Friday.

Re: Starting dancing again...
Well gals, I had my audition and it went great!!
They didn't even have to see me dance. I start on Friday and it should be great.
It's really weird because I was a bit nervous but as soon as I stepped into the club that persona came back to me and I wanted to start there and then!
It is true that it is like riding a bike.
Im back!:P

Re: Starting dancing again...
Good job! :) It seems that the stripper persona is coming back to you a lot quicker than it would come back to me during the times that I took a short break(such as vacation or time off for boob job). That shows that you are very flexible, and it also shows that you're looking forward to getting back into stripper mode...which means you'll probably make a lot of money! I hope you do good on your first days back.

Re: Starting dancing again...
Thanks alot everyone.
The crunch time will be on Friday when I have to start hustling guys for dances.
We will see if the old BS conversations still work to bring the money in.
For everyone that is a bit apprehensive I suggest going for an audition to see how you feel.

Re: Starting dancing again...
I went back last month to help save up some money for a trip I'm taking to Europe... it's helped me a lot to have a goal in mind, and to also go back armed with the knowledge that I'm not going to like die if I stop stripping. It had been over a year. I don't know if I'll go back to the club after my trip or not. It's seeming pretty easy right now to just dance for a night or two a week to supplement my other work and keep myself from getting burned out, but I also really enjoyed my year spent without having to talk to anyone I didn't really want to talk to. I had a lot of complicated feelings about going back that I probably won't be able to fully process until I'm further away from them.
But besides all that, I got back into the swing of things pretty easily.

Re: Starting dancing again...
^^^Ah, that is inspiring to hear. I am going back to the club this weekend or early next week (after swearing I would never return) because I've decided I want to stay in Central America after my outdoor ed course ends (see ticker). So... since I want to travel across Mexico and stay in Belize for a month, (being away from the states for 4 months total YAY) it should help to have $2000. So that is my goal... 2k in profit, not counting gas/ pedicures/ makeup/ incidentals like that which I'll incur going back to the club. I am NOT looking forward to having to hustle, as I've relished being taciturn and solitary since July, but I can cut it... right? Because I'm a baller like that, i.e., "Oh baby you are so cute give me alllll your buck$."
And you can do it too! And good luck to all you guys making your respective triumphant returns!

Re: Starting dancing again...
Ooh teeth, my ex/best mate is just finishing his outdoor ed course too!
Whoops sorry, way off topic.

^^^ Oooh, that's okay, we'll rerail this thread in a minute, but tell me first, where is your friend going and what is he doing? I'm going to be in Baja, Mexico for 3 months learning leave-no-trace camping, desert survival, sailing and sea kayaking. Yeah, I'm bragging a little bit, and it's because I am superduper excited.

Re: Starting dancing again...
He's mainly round and about in rural Australia. He doesn't really get quite as many opportunities to travel far and wide because Australia is so damn far away from everything else, and he's a single parent. Actually I think he just finished his last exam, then hopefully heading to Canada for work experience, but he was already hired by YMCA last year so not sure. He's big on hiking/camping and especially the high ropes, rock climbing, absailing and all that is 'up high' and he is the most impossibly accident prone person I know. His A&E file is ridiculous, it's bigger than any hospital file I've ever seen, he even managed to get bitten on the dick by my snake who's never bitten anyone before. Seriously, I wonder if maybe he should have chosen a career that maybe involves alot of time in cotton wool, or bubble wrap? Sorry, off on a tangent again. :-)
