Visually wonderful. So-so vocal performances. And they cut a bunch of numbers, notably the chorus: "Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd!" Missed that. For the record, I saw the original production on Broadway back in the day.

agreed wi th the comment on Sondheim first. I loved it, but i'm also from a strong musical/theatrical background, and am a bit in love with teh format.
And yes, allen rickman, johnny depp, and helena bonham carter all warrant drools. Helena is a china doll, i adore her, and johnny depp has been my biggest crush for a loooooongassss time. Someo f the vocals could have been stronger, but they had enough emotion in them to make up for hte lack of training.
But yeah, i really loved it. Tim Burton DOES have a certain look to almost all his films, but this one it genuinely suited, and i can't imagine the movie any other way.
i liked it a lot, too.
Can anyone tell me how much singing is in this movie?
I simply will not put myself through musicals. I hate them, they are the worst type of movie IMO.
i have watched some in the past but i fast forward the singing, thats how much it pisses me off. totally unnecessary.
so please tell me, is the whole movie a sing fest?
I adored it.
And Jazaine, there is very little dialogue. Mostly song. You'd be out of luck going.
^^
oh boo.
I just watched the preview and it looked good but if it's mostly song I can't watch it.
There were elements of the movie I really liked, helena's character, the scene about the meat pies, Allen Rickman's henchman, and Sacha Baron Cohen's character... I really. really wantd to like this film. As much as I tried to love it, my movie boner went limp half way through the film. :(
did anyone else notice that it seems that half of the adult cast of the harry potter movies was in it?
I freaking loved this movie! It was a little twisted.
The meat pies, eww!
^loved it.
also, the fact that timothy spall (aka Peter "wormtail" Pettigrew) played the beadle and was essentially rickman's (Snape!) bitch. oh, and bellatrix lestrange (helena bonham carter) made a nice appearance here and there.
OK.
:'(
To me, the movie was best left watching in silence. I just never understood and can't stand musicals (besides Dancer in the Dark) but I had fun reading up on the story behind it. Truth be told I could have walked out of the theater 1/2 thru, onto the next activity, and not felt like I missed anything. Oh well, personal preference.
I generally like musicals, but dislike Tim Burton.
It was so-so. Can't say I was disappointed (see feelings toward Burton) but I wasn't dazzled either. Does make me wonder if unknown cannibalism happens more than we think....
I loved it. I thought it stayed pretty true to the original musical, which I also love. I was impressed with Depp's singing!
